I'm not in marketing, so I don't know what this phenomena is called, but I'm going to call it "Brand Expansion". For example, most of us know what Oreos are, but if you've bought them recently you know that the store shelf now might hold 10-12 different kinds of Oreos - but you can't find the original Oreos that you grew up liking.
Another example ... I'm a fan of "Cheezit" crackers. Cheezits and peanut butter are one of my fave snacks. So I go to the grocery and I'm confronted with a bank of shelves holding an endless variety of Cheezits, but I can't find the originals. Here's a list of just some of the varieties of Cheezits:
Atomic Cheddar Buffalo Wing Cheddar Cheese Grooves Swiss Cheese Grooves Cheddar Jack Cheez-It Big Cheese Pizza Chipotle Cheddar Duoz (two flavors in one box) Duoz Sharp Cheddar & Parmesan Duoz Bacon & Cheddar Duoz Jalapeño & Cheddar Jack Extra Toasty Gripz Hot & Spicy Italian Four Cheese Mozzarella Pepper Jack Provolone Queso Fundido Reduced Fat Reduced Fat White Cheddar Scrabble Junior Sharp White Cheddar Grooves Snack Mix Snack Mix Double Cheese Snack Mix Sweet & Salty Snap'd Snap'd Cheddar Sour Cream White Cheddar Whole Grain Zesty Cheddar Ranch Grooves Zingz Chipotle Cheddar Zingz Queso Fundido
My grocery list might have 20-25 items, and I just spent 10 or 15 minutes looking for frigging Cheezits and Oreos. Then I have to go looking for Aquafresh toothpaste or Tide laundry detergent. The problem is a lot of other things on my list probably are employing the same marketing/merchandising strategy. Its annoying.

This where I'm currently at with the Sopranos. We just finished season 2, and I've yet to figure out what the hoopla is all about. So I'll add the Sopranos to my list. I think there's a difference between binge watching a series and seeing it week to week, one episode at a time and taking season breaks. For the Sopranos, there was discussion on social media and at the water coolers at work during the week between episodes. It gives time to develop relationships with and form opinions on the characters and story lines. You can't do that while rapidly viewing an entire season in a couple sessions. I saw the same thing with Game of Thrones though personally I didn't get into that one.

I could not get into Entourage when it was on. I could barely get through the first season, but I thought the characters were pretty bland, and the whole thing just seemed forced. This where I'm currently at with the Sopranos. We just finished season 2, and I've yet to figure out what the hoopla is all about. So I'll add the Sopranos to my list. (On a related note, Billions rocks.) Someone mentioned NYE.. Couldn't agree more. It's amateur night, you're already burned out from the holidays. I just want to relax in my own home, watch football, and maybe put on a movie. It just seems like overkill. Agree. Couldn't even tell you the last time I stayed up until midnight. Being in Chicago, a lot of the mom and pop pizza places are overrated, and overpriced. Don't get me wrong, there are some fine places to get a pizza. Some of these places charge almost 30 bucks for a large pizza and I just have to laugh at that, because your pizza isn't that good lol. What do you think of Pequads? Not sure on the spelling. We ate there on a trip through Chicago. Our one pizza cost like $50. It was good. Not $50 good but good. We wanted some authentic deep dish pizza. See, now Pequod's is LEGIT. I don't know why you were charged 50 bucks though. That seems steep. That was one of the last places my wife and I went to before all this pandemic stuff. I have been tempted so many times to just drive into the city to get a pie to bring home. Would probably be an hour and a half round trip but worth it lol. Totally agree with Sopranos. I could not stay with it. I did like a lot of the characters though, but sometimes the direction of the show just didn't really interest me though.

Pizza in Chicago. Year and half ago, wife and I were in chicago. Wanted pizza, as we're walking around looking for a place to eat.
Wife starts googling places. I said "eh, there's 2 cops up there. I'm going to ask them where the best pizza is (within walking distance). Next thing you know, there's 4 cops there. I'm standing there, talking to 4 cops as my wife finally walks up. She thought I was in trouble.
Nope, hon, just getting some real feedback from some real people.

Someone tell me how Honey Nut cheerios' are cheaper than regular cheerios, when regular cheerios were around for many years before Honey Nut cheerios even went into stores.
And try to find chocolate frosting if you don't like double, or fudge, or dark chocolate, only regular.

King of Queens rocks. Vegas rocks. Portland sucks. I hate the rain.
I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship! King of Queens was awful. Vegas is a cultural wasteland draped in neon. Portland rocks. I’m looking forward to my rainless summer. Besides, it only rains here once a year. It just starts in October and ends in June. Enjoy standing on the sun in your backyard. 113 degrees isn’t weather. It’s scorched earth. A beautiful friendship indeed.

You've not heard of the honey controversy? General Mills is said to be trying to drive down the price of honey by eliminating their profit on honey nut products. If they can drive enough local bee-keepers out of business, while stifling honey prices, simultaneously creating a demand for their honey nut flavor by offering the public a lower price, they will corner the sweet and salty market. Some alien conspiracy theorists feel they may have added nicotine to their cereal recipe to enhance the effect. General Mills has not responded to requests for comment.

Word on the street is that General Mills has created a genetically modified bee that is the size of a miniature schnauzer, while building hives the size of grain silos in West Virginia. They are planning a continental pipeline to transport the honey to their manufacturing plants across the country. Eco-warriors don't know whether to s*** or go blind, because hey, its just honey. They will mass produce Honey Nut Cheerios and sell the rest of the honey on the open market. The honey glut will destroy the honey market, and General Mills will OWN the round cereal market. Its brilliant and evil at the same time.

I always hated honey. Then I moved to my current neighborhood. I have a beekeeper down the road that sells raw honey. It’s amazing. It made me realize the garbage in the squeeze bottle bear at the grocery store isn’t really honey in many cases. There’s actually a huge market for fake/adulterated honey. And that crap is fake. Now that I’ve had real honey my opinion of it, real honey that is, has completely changed. It’s amazing. Depending on what fields or orchards my local beekeeper’s bees have been working the honey’s taste and color varies greatly. It’s pretty incredible really.

I don't use a lot of honey, but I put it in my steak marinade when I am going to cook them on the grill. It's an important ingredient in the marinade. The key is to get good honey. I don't think I get the stuff you do, but I did do the proper amount of research.

I don't know about all that, but I'll say this: Honey Nut Cheerios with a slice or 2 of buttered toast is awesome...... close to bacon and eggs with hashbrowns, or a sausage biscuit with egg and cheese.
But, I only eat breakfast maybe 5-10 days a year.

I had one of the best burgers I have had in a very long time yesterday. I went to a bar I go to sometimes to watch the Browns if they are not on. They had their half pound bacon cheeseburger with fries for $7.45. I got it with mayo, tomato, and sauted onions. I upgraded to onion rings instead of the fries for $0.50 extra. It ruled! Best burger I have had in months and months. My favorite chain burger is Wendy's. I think that some of you people are just really weird. I mean, no tomatoes? No onions? No pickles? These are all things that make food worth eating, and life worth living. I love Raising Cane's chicken, but hate everything else they make. Their fries and crinkle cut are generic, and their cole slaw is tasteless. The only way they sell their chicken fingers is in a meal with these other 2 items, and a drink. They also only offer a single sauce with their chicken, and Texas toast is not a favorite of mine. If they sold a chicken only entree, I would eat there. As it is, I on;y go there if I really want their chicken, and can tolerate tossing the rest.

--Fast food. I didn't think so many people loved it, but damn, almost every place you guys have mentioned suck. Places like FiveGuys, Wendys, Hardys, etc are all awful. I never eat that crap. I will say.............that I do miss McDonald's fries, though. LOL

The food I hate the most is green peppers. I can't stand the taste. This is one veggie I'd like to see go extinct. It ruins everything it comes in contact with. If you put it on half a pizza, the whole pizza tastes like green peppers. If you put some on a veggie tray, all the veggies pick up the taste. Garnish a casserole with them, the entire casserole is ruined. Nasty.

Sopranos has to be a unanimous favorite among many that I just could not get into. I always stalled out before season 2. I'm going to try your approach and watch an episode week to week and not attempt to binge it. It's highly regarded for a reason. Maybe some of the turnoff is that I already know the ending, but a well written show is a well written show. I'll give it another go. Sperg...I loved Entourage. Fun show, not much to really think about. Johnny Drama is a great character because he's like a carton. The Furry episode w/ Drama at the end was a good laugh.

What do I hate?
Many things I dislike, but hate?
Onions. Pretty much it. Onions. Hate them. Raw, cooked, cooked in food - hate them.
Not sure I 'hate' tv, but I hardly ever watch it. Dish guy came out today to fix our dish that got blown off the roof last week. Then, he wanted to come into the house to check the tv. No problem. He asked me to turn it on. 4 months ago we got a new remote that I guess is voice activated after the dish and tv are on.
I looked at the remote, then had to ask him how to use it. Other than Browns games, I don't watch tv. (like, shows and what not. I watch netflix.......on occasion) I know some people hate onions. Me, I love them. I'll mix them in with a homemade milkshake. OK....maybe I don't do that. Hate....ok, Queen. The worst band in the history of bands. I'd rather listen to the Cowsills sing "Hair" 20 times over before I listen to Queen. Some of you remember the Cowsills. They were lame, but not as lame as Queen.

I think it was an intelligent show - as far as TV sitcoms are concerned - but I never thought any of the main characters to be likeable. Totally disagree about Queen, though (but I’ve been known to eat an onion raw).

Sadly, I've been thinking about his for the last 24-28 hours.
I have decided that, yes, onions are the only thing I hate.
Even had a gentleman ask me if he could bring his grandkids out to fish in the pond. He's one of the biggest dems/libs I know. Not THE biggest, of course.
I said "absolutely.."
We've butted heads many times - over politics. I disagree with him, he disagree with me. It is what it is.
But his grandkids had a blast. Pulled out an average of 1 fish every 4 minutes or so. Kids that had never fished before.
I sat beside him, the grandpa, as the kids were reeling fish in.
I disagree with him on politics beyond belief. He does with me also. I don't hate him. Plus, his grandkids got to truly fish for the first time in their lives.

Okay, since someone brought up the group Queen, I'll add a few more to the list...
Rush. Their music was pretty good actually. The problem was the singer, Geddy Lee. He had one of those voices that hearing their songs a few times didn't bother me. But more than that his voice sounded like raking fingernails across a chalk board.
AC/DC. If you enjoy three chords and a lot of screaming, they are the prefect band for you. Not me. "Dirty jeans and they're dungarees."
KISS. Please don't send the KISS army to my home. There was nothing melodically pleasing about them. Any garage band could play 95% of their music in a few weeks. Big on show, low on talent. They did pull off a great marketing plan however.
Maybe it has to do with the fact I knew so many musicians with great talent who never got their shot that it just blistered my butt to see people with far less talent make it so big.

KISS is trash. God awful. I have acquaintances that SAY they like them but I’ve never heard them played in their home. Why? Because it’s unlistenable novelty rock crap. They don’t really like them, their 12-13 year old self liked them... and the nostalgia lives on. I know in their hearts they realize the music is garbage. A few even admit it.

Yep. In music it is hard to tell which songs/groups are going hook and which ones aren't.
I agree on AC/DC….their songs sounded pretty much the same. Same progressions.....maybe reverse the chords, or toss one out and add another. Not much talent there, but, they made some coin and I guess that is the goal for a band.

I don't know that I'm correct on this, but I've drawn a conclusion from my lifetimes of experience and some of the things I've witnessed.
Making it in the music business takes one, key first step. Being in the right place, at the right time and being seen by the right people. If that never happens in the first place you have no shot.

Then the AI wrote a song based on the band’s style and lyrics. Follow this link to laughter... https://www.musicradar.com/news/musician...er-musicradarfbThe AI also did a few other bands and songs. You’ll see them in the link. The AC/DC song is by far the best. It’s hilarious.
