Obviously this has been in the news the past few weeks, and talks have ramped up the past few days.

There is a TON of pressure for Washington to change their name. So ...

- Should they change it?

- If so, what’s your suggestion for a new mascot?

I like Swamp Rats.

The mascot should be obvious.

I like Tulsa's idea.

From a football perspective, I think it'd be great to see Hogs after the OL of the 80s or 90s. Maybe Warthogs to make a alliteration. (kinda like if the Browns were to change a name, I'd want Dawgs)

They could copy Miami U and go with Redhawks. Unoriginal.

I'd guess they stick with the theme of the other teams and go with something military or governmental like the Federals or Monuments or something.

Is the name "Indians" offensive? I don't think it's like "Redskins" or Chief Wahoo. I get that they weren't actually Indians, but is that really offensive? Rocket, I already know your answer, so save it.

I say change it to Cleveland Crackers.

I’ve heard arguments that using the term Indian lumps everyone together.

It’s sort of like how people think all Alaska Natives are Inuits when really the word is Inupiaq...but they’re only one of many. There’s Athabaskan, Tlingit, Yup’ik, Aleut, Haida, and many more.

They should reach out to a local indigenous organization and figure out a name there. I mean even bring back a more respectful representation of what Wahoo was but not as a mascot.

Check out what FSU does. We should follow that model.

People need to learn how to not be offended.

So. It's a team name. Not a policy. Is the word "Indians" offensive? Personally, I don't think so. I think the name Redskins is. I think the caricature of Chief Wahoo was. "Indians?" Ehhh.........not feeling it.

People get carried away w/how offended they are and in the end it just turns most folks off. It's not how you "win the game." Hopefully, when you get older and wiser, you will learn it is about making positive strides and identifying techniques that help you gain those victories. Then again, some folks never learn and continue to alienate the majority over the course of their lifetime and then are bitter why they aren't treated the way they want to be.

Beat them w/intelligence. Not bias, hate, and selfishness.

Caveins is not a word. And if those two names did not offend you, shame on you. I also have no problem being a liberal thinking individual.

Liberal: "open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values." I'm good w/that.

I don't like the new liberals who have become the new right w/all their name calling and hateful biases.

But, I am an old-school liberal and I wear that label proudly. I am proud to keep an open mind to new ideas and evolve. On the other hand, I will not tolerate poor behavior in the name of change.

The cool thing about being ethical is that you can say screw you to both sides and it is perfectly legitimate.

What a joke. There is nothing offensive about "Indians". It pays homage to all the Native Americans from our region.

I don’t find Indians to be as offensive as Redskins. I mean, it’s way more of a stretch to change the Indians IMO.

Truthfully, I find “Fighting Irish” more offensive than “Indians.”

If they aren't going to call them the Redskins then they ought to just disband the team. (Yes, Contraction, pull the NFL to 31 teams);
They won the superbowl twice at least in my lifetime and I had to listen to that stupid team song.

If that offends you I think you should get over it, I think it's an Honor that team name.

Just happened upon "The Beverly Hillbillies" tv show, wow that is an offensive portrayal,

Beverly Hillbillies, and Mama's family, and also The Dukes of Hazzard, specifically Roscoe and Boss as characters.
