Thank you.

Glad you are okay, but sad to read about your brother and sister-in-law. They gave her some kind of medication, though I am not sure what. His case, thus far, appears to be mild .... so I am praying that's as bad as it gets.

My kids both did great. They didn't have too many complications. I am sharing that w/you so you can hang on to something positive. Hopefully, your brother and his wife will have similar results. Hang in there, bro.

Thank you guys.
I am glad that my sister in law's kids are all grown and out of the house, or else this could be a whole lot worse.

Well .. had my COVID-19 test done so I can have a minor procedure done next week ..... and I don't have it.
My sister-in-law has it, but my brother does not. And now my brother has tested positive for it as well. I haven't seen them for probably over 6 months now. (Christmas) I am very fortunate that my mom has a great attitude, and doesn't mind solitude. Sorry to hear that. I expect to be contacted today with my test results. I took the swab on Sunday morning. Since it was a Sunday I was told it might take 3-4 days. I had developed a dry cough and had diarrhea. I feel fine, though still have a bit of a hack. What we have to remember is 97% of everybody ends up fine. That is what we need to cling to. I wish your family well.

I think a real question should be when the White House said "40 million people have been tested", does that mean 40 million tests have been taken total?
Because we know some people have been tested multiple times and the fact that 40 million tests have been taken in no way represents that 40 million people have been tested. I don't think anybody really knows how many people have been tested. Quit picking nits. Have you been tested? I won't pick nits either. As I have said all along, testing is great, but 5 minutes after the test you can catch the damn thing. By the time you get your negative results a few days later, you could have infected 25 other people. Sure, you and I may take it seriously and self isolate. Because of some symptoms, I got swabbed on Sunday morning. I expect to get results today. I have been sitting at the house since then. I sit here in my office. I have a TV, computer, and couch comfortable enough to sleep on. Even a dedicated half bath to use. When I need to venture in to other areas of the house, I drench my hands in sanitizer. I have taken a couple of showers since Sunday. We have food in the house. I had my wife put a knife, fork and spoon and about 20 cans of self opening soups, beefaroni, sardines, crackers, peanut butter etc. out side the door on Sunday. I am somewhat of an animal. I don't need warm food. Eating cold food out of a can isn't something that has never been done before. She does set a foam cup of hot coffee outside the door every morning. I call her when I want it and she troopers out to fix it, be it at 3-4AM....I wake early. I drink it black, so it is easy enough.

I didn't know that wondering what the facts actually were verses what we're being told was "picking nits". I'll make sure and PM you next time before I ask a question and get your okay.
Okay, so you know better than me doing that and I was being facetious.
On a more serious note, I hope your test results come back negative. I know you have said that when it's your time to go you are ready for it. But I'm hoping that time isn't now.

It is supremely annoying that they still choose to give meaningless charts in their graphics.
How many we got today versus how many we got yesterday is a completely worthless line graph. Give me yesterday's current count versus today's current count. That's important because by default it factors in the data they continue to omit which is recoveries which purposefully obfuscates any clear picture of the current state of things.
SO annoying.

Some more reasons why "why not herd immunity, open everything up!" is such a bad take... Patients with mild symptoms show brain damage. More information on brain damage. Be my guest to keep peddling out nonsense on HCL and why herd immunity is a great approach, but I'll keep sticking to factual reports.

I understand you can't see the difference in people making a choice and a mandate from a would be dictator. So I'll refrain from trying to explain any further.

My job shut down in mid-March. It's now July. There is no guarantee that my job will exist as I've known it for anytime soon.
Our house went into 'shutdown mode' immediately. My Wife & I had no fights about this. We were both raised to exercise common sense. We both stayed awake in 9th grade Biology class. We understand bacteria, viruses... and basic epidemiology.
I venture out into public fewer than 3 times/wk. I bundle shopping trips, where I can exercise the same safety protocols by rote until I get back home. I routinely use hand sanitizer as soon as I'm back in my driver's seat, and I routinely wash my hands for 30 seconds immediately after returning home (something My Mother instilled in us when we were kids, so it's not a new learning curve). I put on a mask before I exit my car; I don't take it off until I'm back in my car.
I haven't changed a g.d. thing about my day-to-day life since this nightmare descended upon us. No parties, no restaurants, no backyard barbecues, no nothing.
And definitely no indoor concerts/performances.
If I encounter a post on this board from someone who informs us that his/her family member/loved one is now in an I.C.U., face-down, in a medically-induced coma, with a ventilator shoved down their throat, I'll be able to offer you my sincere thoughts and prayers, knowing that I did everything I could to keep your family member out of that situation. That's what I've been doing for you.
I'm wearing a mask. 100%.
I'm choosing to do this every single time I leave my house, and venture into public space.
Because I care about the general health of my country... and all its citizens. Even those who don't give a s# about me or you... or anyone else, including their own immediate families.
____________
Masks are a simple little thing we can do, because we now know how disease is spread. I've stood in public at a microphone for 20+ years under blazingly bright lights, and have seen, first-hand, how much spittle and spew I have contributed to our common space. It's illuminating. I NEVER touch a microphone that I don't own and personally control. Common sense informs my personal routine- and has, for decades.
I am a citizen of the United States of America. I can't enjoy the privileges of citizenship without also taking on the responsibilities that come with it.
I do this, because I owe it to all of you. Even if you hate me and my views. Period.

I am getting to this a little late, but you and I seem to work on the same hours. I wake early as well. I assume these are your waking hours and you didn't just go to bed.
I agree with pretty much all. I may not put my mask on as I am walking through a parking lot because I can veer my direction in such a manner I am not walking right next to people, but I mask up.
I was experiencing some symptoms late last week and got tested Sunday morning. Been self isolated. Yesterday I got word I was negative. Good news.
That doesn't mean I am going to go clubbing tonight. I am fixing to go out for a walk in a few minutes. The first time since Saturday morning. I may just go 3-4 miles to get back in to the swing, and I don't mask up there. With few exceptions, it is easy to maintain 6-10 feet space, and as early morning walkers, you see the same people every day. We know and respect each other. We aren't going to start sneezing on each other.
I just remembered, the county as a mandator mask order starting today. I will take my mask. I will lower it if nobody is around, then put it up as I see somebody.
Got to do the right thing.

The only person I’m around, uncovered, is my wife. I’ve never been tested but she’s an RN at a retirement center and is tested regularly. I feel safe enough with that. My hobbies outside the home have become limited to fishing. I do this alone, in my boat. I enjoy the peaceful solitude. While our state is fully open, we’ve only been out to eat one time since it opened. We agreed we prefer our backyard grill much better. I talk to our neighbors from a social distance, we don’t go on to each other’s properties.
Aren’t all decent folks doing these kinds of things?

I don't know how you define "decent folks", but no, not everybody is doing that. In fact, a large portion of people are doing the opposite. And that is why we haven't been able to shut this virus down.

I stand with you on this. I just can't believe the sheer numbers of people that use "being robbed of their freedom" is an excuse not to wear a mask or social distance. And of course you have those other special flowers that use asthma, claustrophobia or whatnot whining that these restrictions shouldn't apply to them, despite the health risks to others. I know many healthcare professionals that wear masks continuously, all day long......every day, and those excuses are just lame. And when these folks bring it home to their parents and grandparents, you can be sure they'll blame the government.

A lot of very good recent posts in this thread. I am fortunate enough to be in the same boat as many of you and I don't have to be around other people all that often. We haven't been out to eat since this all went down and only shop for essentials. I do have to go to a place like Lowes to get some supplies for my projects.
There are people who are being selfish and not taking the necessary precautions. There are also people like my wife, son, and daughter who have to work w/the public. My wife works in a hospital. My daughter and fiance own a plumbing business and my son is the manager of a high volume shop. All three are exposed to a ton of other people. They can't just quit working. I think of the grocery store workers who are exposed to so many people each day. That has to be tough.
Some people are not able to avoid other people or the risks of the virus. That is why it is important for the rest of us to do the things that Clem put forth in his post and that many of you echoed.

We can't hide from this, and we can't avoid it. The best we can do is take appropriate precautions and protections, and move forward.
Some people will ignore it all and do their things their way, and all we can do is do our best to avoid those people.
But ultimately, it is up to each of us, to protect ourselves and our loved ones the way we feel is best for each of us.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

If it doesn't look like proper distancing is practiced, we walk out. Pretty easy. You can't live in a hole forever. Life goes on is our theory. I was recently swabbed due to some symptoms. The results came back negative yesterday afternoon.....so, good news. No, I am not going out clubbing tonight to celebrate.

It is really debilitating for them not to be in school, from book education to socialization to life skills. And at the same time you want to protect vulnerable children from getting sick. We will have some tough decisions to make over the next several weeks. Will include a lot discussions with our daughter's doctors.

Our kids do not have underlying health issues, but we are both anxious about our school district's plans for this upcoming school year. I have a feeling it's going to be a mix of online and in-school learning. Returning all students full time would be unsettling. What an absolute mess.

My youngest is 35. Having to figure out if you send them if schools are open. You have to work, but what do you do with the kids if schools aren't? You have to take care of them first, but you need income. If both of you work, it's near impossible to cut one income out of the mix and make it work. Add in a child with special needs. I guess somebody could take a night job. My heart is with you.

Fortunately, my wife is a stay at home mom. So that part of the equation is covered. Having two kids at once, one with special needs, made that decision easy for us.
I am also fortunate to work a job that isn't likely to go away, and I can do it remotely.
So we are blessed on those two fronts. The big thing is the what to do with the kids when schools open based on what that will look like. And even if we decide to keep one home and send the other, the other one could bring it back to the family.
Like I said, we are lining up doctor's calls with our one daughter's doctor. She is a heart patient, and her cardiologist is the most important one to speak with. Once we gather all the information and the schools finalize what they are doing, hopefully we can have a path forward that makes us feel comfortable.
