No doubt schools are breeding grounds. Seems like the kids keep passing something around all year long.

The scary things is if you have young children, particularly children with health issues. That's the position we are in. It is really debilitating for them not to be in school, from book education to socialization to life skills. And at the same time you want to protect vulnerable children from getting sick.

We will have some tough decisions to make over the next several weeks. Will include a lot discussions with our daughter's doctors.

My wife and I were discussing that last night, that we are glad our son is grown and we are not trying to raise young children through all this. It's a mess and I imagine it's really tough on young families.

I certainly wish you all the best. Thus far many reports I've seen have plans to give you the option of sending your kids to school or online schooling. Hopefully that option will be available to you to make your choice easier.

j/c:

Went shopping today in Euclid (Cuyahoga county). Everyone was wearing masks, which is good.

Yesterday I went to pick up a pizza in Eastlake (Lake county). I saw just a few people wearing them... Hardly anyone, in fact. I don't think they have to there? Well, I wore one anyhow.

Welcome to the new normal.

P.S. Time for a nap. thumbsup

In Nova Scotia, where I live, we’ve been very lucky to have strong leadership at the top. In a province of around one million people, we’ve had 1,066 cases 63 deaths, 53 of those at a large nursing home) and only three active cases at present.

Our provincial premier has been on this from the start, stressing self-isolation, listening to the health care professionals and not giving in to whims and flights of fancy.

It’s wonderful to have strong, smart leadership.

Ahem.

I don't go out except when I have to. I go to work because I am an essential employee and I go to the grocery store. And I will go for walks outside where I can keep my distance.

But that isn't the point. The point is those people are the ones perpetuating the spread.

Mandating coronavirus face masks would strengthen US economy: Goldman Sachs
New lockdowns would reduce GDP by 5%

By Jonathan Garber - FOXBusiness

A national face mask mandate would slow the spread of COVID-19 and potentially prevent the reinstatement of lockdowns that would wreak havoc on the U.S. economy, according to Goldman Sachs.

The daily number of new coronavirus cases reached a record 44,726 on Friday as a number of states including California, Florida and Texas experienced a surge in infections. Deaths and hospitalizations, meanwhile, are holding near their lowest levels since late March.

“The economic benefit from a face mask mandate and increased face mask usage could be sizable,” wrote a Goldman Sachs research team led by Chief Economist Jan Hatzius. Such an action, however, would lie well outside the authority of the White House; any executive order to do so would be unenforceable, serving merely as a recommendation.

As for Congress, it's "well established that personal health is an area of governance that has been reserved by the Tenth Amendment to the states," said Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano. "Congress can spend money on it, but it cannot regulate personal behavior in order to enhance personal health."

While health officials have urged Americans to use masks to curb the spread of COVID-19, the items have become a political flashpoint, with some arguing they're unnecessary and refusing to don them.

More widespread usage, though, might avert additional damaging stay-at-home orders. Also intended to rein in the pandemic, such measures forced nonessential businesses to shutter their doors beginning in mid-March, leading to the sharpest economic slowdown of the postwar era.

The U.S. economy shrank by 5 percent during the first three months of 2020 and is expected to have contracted by at least 30 percent during the second quarter. About 47 million Americans have filed first-time unemployment claims since the pandemic began.

The resurgence of the virus as lockdowns were lifted, however, has caused a number of states to slow their reopenings and sparked concern that some parts of the country would reinstate the closures.

Since the first wave of infections in March and April, it has “become clear that broad lockdowns are not the only way to lower virus transmission significantly,” Hatzius wrote.

The Trump administration issued a national “recommendation” in April that Americans wear a mask to help avoid COVID-19 transmission. The suggestion came after the World Health Organization said on March 30 that there was “no specific evidence” that wearing a mask provided any benefit.

Nearly 70 percent of Americans self-reported face mask usage in public, but that number varies from state to state, according to Goldman.

Statewide mandates for mask usage have raised the number of people who “always” or “frequently” wear masks by 25 percentage points and a national mandate could “increase U.S. face mask usage by statistically significant and economically large amounts” in states like Florida and Texas, the bank said.

Mask usage lowers the infection growth rate by 1.3 percentage points in the approximately two weeks following a mandate and reduces the death rate by 3.7 percentage points after a month, according to Goldman.

While Hatizus said a national face mask mandate could substitute for lockdowns that would cause a 5 percent drop in gross domestic product, the economic impact would be uncertain due to the firm’s analysis being based on a number of statistical relationships.

Still, it “suggests that the economy could benefit significantly” from a national face mask mandate, Hatzius wrote.

JMHO- living north of Tampa, FL. This virus has further split our nation, the elderly, I'm one, think it is "evident" all should wear a mask- yet younger folks think you're taking my rights away AND statistics say I'm not going to die from this disease. That's PROBABLY true, but is it right thing to do.
When our Gov opened bars and restaurants, some did it well, yet there were PLENTY who didn't, and the beaches were PACKED after "long lockdown" - each generation is different and times have changed significantly- I reflect on how Jews trying to survive the Holocaust hide completely for years- yet modern man and women can't handle weeks.

We don't know STILL enough about the virus, don't wear a mast, hope your grandparent, or parents don't die because your rights were bothered. Glad you put that elderly woman in her place, should have made you proud and highly respected in your community. God Bless All

Just a couple quotes from the article:

As coronavirus cases in Texas continue to skyrocket, Governor Greg Abbott warned Friday that he may have to implement a lockdown if the numbers don't come down. The governor has reiterated several times this week that his statewide mask order must be followed.

In Texas, the number of coronavirus patients who are hospitalized has quadrupled in the last month to nearly 10,000,

Last call: Las Vegas to shut bars down again Friday night to thwart coronavirus spike

USA TODAY

Heading to the newly reopened Las Vegas Strip?

The choice of places to grab a drink — and eat, if you have a large party — may shrink substantially beginning late Friday under new coronavirus restrictions announced by Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak late Thursday.

Bars are returning to Phase 1 restrictions under the state's reopening plans at 11:59 p.m., PDT meaning those without food have to close except for curbside pick up where applicable. Nevada is the latest in a series of states to pause or rollback reopening plans.

Restaurants must close their bar areas, even if they have tabletop video gaming machines, and can no longer serve parties larger than six people inside. Restaurants can still serve alcohol but for now, you can't grab a drink at the bar while you wait for your table.

"We know that COVID-19 can easily spread when people are congregating for long periods of time, like inside a bar,'' Sisolak said in announcing the new measures. "In states where we have seen significant spikes, such as Arizona, Texas and Florida, they have all taken actions to roll back bars. Recently, Dr. Fauci, the U.S.'s top infectious-disease expert, advised that congregating in bars poses a significant risk and is one of the most dangerous things people could do right now. We must heed his advice."

Nevada is one of 19 states whose citizens being asked to quarantine upon arrival in the New York metro area and Chicago due to its recent surge in COVID-19 cases. According to the state health department, Nevada has more than 25,900 cases and 579 deaths. The Reno Gazette-Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported Friday that the state had more than 1,000 cases in the last 24 hours.

Bellagio has doubled down on coronavirus precautions with partitions separating video poker machines, blackjack and poker tables.
Bellagio has doubled down on coronavirus precautions with partitions separating video poker machines, blackjack and poker tables.
It's unclear how the restrictions will affect casino bar and restaurant operations, a staple of any visitor stay. Given the last-minute notice and Sisolak's pledge to provide more details Friday, Las Vegas' major hotel casinos say they are still working out the details.

"We first saw the new guidelines last night, and we are reviewing them this morning,'' Caesars Entertainment spokesman Robert Jarrett said via e-mail.

A big concern, of course: The new restrictions will likely spark trip cancellations as the tourism hotspot struggles to get back on its feet after a nearly three-month closure. Casino hotels only reopened five weeks ago.

The topic of closing the bars again came up Thursday night at The Bar at Times Square, a popular piano bar at New York-New York Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. . A guest who was there told USA TODAY the piano player told visitors to "enjoy it while you can'' since the bar would close Friday.

Asked by phone early Friday how the shutdown would affect guests at the luxe Bellagio, a customer service representative had to talk to a manager. She came back on the line and said the hotel is still awaiting clarification but added that visitors can still get drinks in the casino.

"Even though bars are closing, you can still have drinks while you're playing (casino games),'' she said.

Right here, my friends, lies the enemy. Ignorance is an ugly beast.

I’ve watched once seemingly coherent people lose their damn minds during this pandemic.

I have little hope for our future. Honestly, the number of people spitting in the face of this, and pretending it’s going away soon or isn’t even real, boggles my mind.

This is the worst I’ve ever felt about this country. Seriously, I’m feeling hopeless.

I agree with Jules. There are too many selfish people in this country for it to ever work.

This has to be fake right?? I can't imagine anyone acting like this is so proud of his behavior that he'd post about it on a message board... ridiculously childish...

I personally think we should be wearing masks in public currently.... I get people who don't want to... but I don't understand people who feel the need to berate and insult those who have a differing opinion...

That was my thought. This has to be a joke because no adult would be proudly say they acted like this.
My wife took my son to a little kids' haircut place that has strict mask, cleaning, and distancing protocols in place. A parent got all bent out of shape because she was stopped because she didn't have her mask on, and started dropping f-bombs in said toddler haircut place (not unlike the earlier poster's story). My wife said the majority of the other parents that were there assisted the staff in getting that trash human being outta there.

Did a curbside pickup for lunch yesterday from a sandwich shop near the house. The staff that brought it out had the mask pulled down off her nose. Mouth was covered but nose wasn't. I reheated my sandwiches when I got home.

I rarely curse at all. I was keeping to myself.
Some people need to learn to mind their own business. If it was a Male that addressed me instead of me I would have reacted the same way.

As far as my parents go in regards to raising me.
My biological father left me at birth and my biological mother simply pawned me off on
Her younger sister.
Then I ended up in foster homes.
So no I never has proper biological parents
To raise me.

Are you sure it didn't get quiet in there and so many people were looking at the ground because that's where you ended up after the lady beat your ass down?

He never did say how the story ended... notallthere

It may end up with some of his victims being in the ICU or the morgue. But I suppose he thinks maybe that's okay?

If he ends up falling victim to it himself, I think Strother Martin described it pretty well in Cool Hand Luke...

Here's the stupidity behind it all. Let's compare it to smoking. You have the right to smoke. But yet even though it's legal to smoke, you can't smoke where it impacts other people. Your rights do not entitle you to inflict your personal choices to risk the health and well being of others.

The same with these dumb asses who don't wear masks. They think they have the right to risk your health and your life because they don't give a damn about their own. Or don't have enough common sense to understand the difference.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Sorry to hear that but one can choose how they act going forward. What you displayed at the post office was by your choice. Be better.... or not, your call. Just don’t expect praise when you call yourself out for being a jerk.

Sorry to hear ... i cant even imagine ... if your blessed with children hopefully your experience will help u be a better parent ...

I agree folks need to learn to mind there own business ... i don’t think she’s one of them ... u didn’t wear a mask and didn’t stay 6’ away .... thats rude and potentially dangerous ... your old enough to know that ... U don’t wanna wear a mask but stay 6’ away you may get a glare or a disgusted look from me but i won’t say a thing ... u get too close and we’d have words ...

And in my world ... u don’t cuss at women ... PERIOD!
