So the US has 5 straight days over 1k deaths. Not signs of slowing down.

Obviously that means we need to open up all the schools, even though somehow it was so unsafe that trump canceled the convention in Jacksonville.

Shout out to North Carolina. They caught all that heat for their COVID policy that ticked off trump and the republicans, only to be proven right anyway.

Still a red state with MAGA losers, but at least the governor isn’t a moron, unlike Florida’s.

Settle down those are just 1000 embers. If they stopped printing obituaries there would be no Covid deaths.

California Sees Record 12,000 New Coronavirus Cases, Surpasses New York as Worst-Hit State

Total cases in the most populous U.S. state rose by 12,112 on Wednesday to a total of more than 421,000, the biggest single-day increase since the pandemic started. California deaths also set a one-day record, rising by 159.

New York has recorded by far the most deaths of any U.S. state at more than 32,000 with California in fourth place with over 8,000 deaths.

If California were a country, it would rank fifth in the world for total coronavirus cases behind only the United States, Brazil, India and Russia. New York has more than 413,500 cases and has been adding on average 700 new ones a day in July. In California there is an average of 8,300 new cases a day.

The rapid increase of cases has made it difficult to trace the pathogen's path through the community through contact tracing, a process of interviewing people who test positive for the virus to find out how they were exposed, and whom they in turn might have exposed, California Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr Mark Ghaly said on Tuesday.

"No one anticipated building a program to contact trace the number of cases we’re seeing here," Ghaly said at a news conference, referring to Los Angeles and other counties struggling to trace cases of the disease.

Since its crush of cases earlier in the year, New York state has managed to get the virus under control, reporting the fewest hospitalizations in four months on Monday and only two deaths on Tuesday.

Nearly 143,000 Americans have died of COVID-19 - nearly a quarter of the global total.

The number of cases is irrelevant, the key is hospitalizations and more so, the strain on the system.

Most everyone will get this before a vaccine is available, best we can all hope for is quick recovery.

Cases are absolutely relevant. This isn't an either or thing.

Nations such as South Korea and Taiwan have used case numbers to contact trace and prevent further outbreaks from happening.

Focusing primarily on hospitalization is reactionary. Figure out the cases and determine ways to prevent further spread.

This is how you support your failed leaders? Most everyone will get it? You do know doctors and experts have estimated herd immunity could take 4-10 years. But doctors and experts aren’t being listened too are they?

Irrelevant as to how serious a health risk it is, 10's of millions get the flu and colds every year, an overwhelming majority recover with no medical intervention.

What is relevant is the percentage/numbers that require medical assistance to overcome it, and the number that don't/can't overcome it.

And everything else you said, basically supports what I said. We will all, or at least the vast majority will get this. Most will recover just fine, some wont, and even more won't survive.

But in the end, long before we have a vaccine, you can bet the probability is that you , me, and most people we know will have contracted this. Some won't even know it.

I think you and Florida are both right but it depends where you are at in this thing.

Since the numbers indicate that cases and rate of infection are high, I would think that contact tracing gets more and more difficult under those circumstances and is likely stressing those employed to do this job and keep up.

Due to a poor response by our country in parts due to poor leadership at the top, people not listening, and the lack of consideration/intelligence of our citizens in general, we are where we are. We have two choices, lock down again or start living your life with it while being aware and taking precautions. I just don't think a shut down is feasible at this point.

So if you aren't going to lock down, I do think the best numbers to keep an eye on are hospitalizations and deaths. If those are manageable and stay in check, you stay the course. And while there are reports that hospitalizations are up in some parts of the country, there are many parts of the country where it is manageable. Nevada has one of the highest infection rates, and we've been taking in patients from Arizona because the capacity is there.

Bottom line is we either lock down again or learn to live with it. And I would be surprised at this point how effective contact tracing is with such large numbers.

We blew our chances of making a lock down work. We ignored the guidelines that at least gave us a chance to make that work. The nations leaders chose politics over science. So here we are.

We are the Brazil of North America. All anyone needs to do is compare us to any nation who chose to listen to science to see just how badly our leadership totally botched this situation.

The infection rate tells you pretty much everything you need to know.

The day after the guidelines came out trump encouraged ignoring them. Remember the next day when he told three democratic states to liberate! And of course decided to hold a rally with no social distancing. I would love to know how many were infected at that rally. He encouraged his supporters not to wear masks. He killed US citizens with his insane leadership that was only meant to help his re-election.

Just stop! The more you guys preach this nonsense, the more you drive away people in the middle who are seriously considering voting for the Dems.

There's way too much of this going on. We had 2 frickin' graduation parties on our street Saturday. Granted, the street is 5 miles long and they were separated, but wow. The one on our block had cars lined up for a half mile along the street and a long driveway and front yard full. We saw people walking in with no masks on. Didn't see the goings on at the other party, but they had 2 huge tents set up in their back yard.

Graduation parties are like Wedding parties, there is usually a lot of unprotected sex going on.
