I have a couple of problems with this message..

1. I happened to have called my local election board yesterday. The official ballots won't be mailed out until October 6th. Not sure if that is the case everywhere, but I bet it's close.

Portage county Ohio has roughly 10,000 mail in ballots that need mailed out from it's location in Ravenna, Ohio.

2. How can the President make you an official Absentee Ballot request? I wonder if that's written as it was spoken? Might be a typo.

Normally I dig into these stories to try to validate the content and context ... I'm not going to bother. I'm just hoping that the election is run fairly, no scare mongering about voter fraud where there is none, and if something is good for one side it should be good for the other side. Minimize the manufactured controversy of the one example of one thing happening one time - focus on what the overwhelming, vast, 99% is doing.

Good luck with that... Trump is already setting up this election as Unfair. If the vote comes in and he loses, he'll cry like a baby, stomp his feet and yell and scream unfair.

Have you noticed, everything that happens to him is UNFAIR.

Well bubba, nobody said that life is fair.

I got one of those, my wife too. It was an ad piece put out by the campaign with ballot request forms inside. I got a prefilled one from the state too. But due to the post office BS, we've decided to vote early and in person.

US election 2020: Donald Trump's convention speech fact-checked

BBC
Reality Check team - BBC News
,BBC•August 28, 2020

President Donald Trump delivers his speech for the Republican presidential nomination

Accepting his party's nomination to run for a second term, he listed his own achievements and criticised his Democratic opponent Joe Biden.

Mr Trump spoke for over an hour and made a series of claims. We've fact-checked some of them.

Claim 1: "If you give power to Joe Biden, the radical left will defund police departments all across America"

President Trump attacked his Democratic rival over law and order, against the backdrop of the recent unrest in US cities.

Since the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May, there have been calls to "defund the police".

Donald Trump and other Republicans have claimed that Joe Biden supports this but Mr Biden has said repeatedly that he does not.

In June, he told CBS News: "I don't support defunding the police".

Mr Biden repeated this view in an opinion piece for USA Today, calling for reform of the police.

"I do not support defunding police. The better answer is to give police departments the resources they need to implement meaningful reforms, and to condition other federal dollars on completing those reforms," he wrote.

He's also said he would provide "an additional $300 million to reinvigorate community policing".

Claim 2: "We have already built 300 miles of border wall"

Since January 2017, when Mr Trump assumed the presidency, 275 miles of wall along the border with Mexico has been completed, according to the latest US Customs and Border Protection report.

However, most of that was to replace existing structures.

A total of 245 miles of wall has been built in place of old barriers.

But only 30 miles of new wall has actually been built.

Most of this (25 miles) is what's called "secondary wall", which is constructed to reinforce the primary border barrier.

The border with Mexico is about 2,000 miles long.

Claim 3: "Over the past three months, we have gained over 9 million jobs, a new record"

Here, President Trump claimed the US economy was recovering "much faster" than other western nations from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

It's true that - since April 2020 - there have been nine million people added to the US payroll, according to the US Bureau for Labor Statistics.

But what Mr Trump didn't mention was that this rise followed a much bigger loss of 22 million people from the payroll in March, when measures to tackle the pandemic were introduced.

Claim 4: "The United States has among the lowest case fatality rates of any major country in the world"

President Trump didn't mention that the US has the world's highest overall number of Covid-19 deaths, nearly 180,000.

Instead, he highlighted the case fatality rate - the ratio of deaths to confirmed cases. Of those who tested positive for coronavirus, how many have died?

It's true the US rate is relatively low on this measure compared with most major European countries, including the UK.

It's not the lowest in the world - Norway, Japan, and South Korea are all lower, for example.

But different countries are testing to find coronavirus cases in different ways, so direct comparisons are difficult.

A low case fatality rate could mean that widespread testing identifies lots of mild cases who were unlikely to die in the first place.

Claim 5: "He [Joe Biden] has pledged a $4 trillion tax hike on almost all American families"

Trump is correct that the Biden plan would lead to $4 trillion in revenues (over a decade), according to analysis by the Tax Policy Centre.

However, this claim is misleading as the taxes would target the wealthiest Americans - not "almost all American families".

The Tax Policy Centre found that 93% of the tax increases would be paid by taxpayers in the top fifth of households.

High earners would see "substantially larger tax increases than households in other income groups, both in dollar amounts and as a share of their incomes."

Claim 6: "We obliterated 100% of the ISIS caliphate"

It's true the Islamic State group's territory - a "caliphate" it declared in 2014 across parts of Iraq and Syria - came to an end during Mr Trump's period in office.

The US-led alliance overcame the group in its last stronghold in Syria, March 2019.

But as the BBC reported at the time "despite the demise of its physical caliphate, IS remains a battle-hardened and well-disciplined force whose "enduring defeat is not assured."

On 12 August, a top US military official laid out what was needed to score an enduring defeat against IS, noting the group still posed a threat.

Claim 7: "We will always, and very strongly, protect patients with pre-existing conditions, and that is a pledge from the entire Republican Party"

This refers to a requirement that health insurance companies can't charge people more if they have pre-existing conditions.

It became law with President Obama's signature domestic policy - the Affordable Care Act, known as "Obamacare".

Donald Trump and the Republican party want to repeal Obamacare and replace it, but have failed to do so despite pushing for it in Congress.

In June, the administration asked the US Supreme Court to permanently end Obamacare - which includes those provisions for people with pre-existing conditions.

If successful, it's not clear what the Trump administration would replace it with. President Trump has signalled that he may make insurers cover people with pre-existing conditions, but there's no detail yet.

Claim 8: "Our Nato partners, as an example, were far behind in their defence payments. But at my strong urging, they agreed to pay $130bn more a year"

The current defence spending target for Nato members is 2% of gross domestic product (GDP), to be reached by 2024.

The US spent roughly 3.4% of its GDP on defence in 2019, according to Nato estimates, while the average in European Nato countries and Canada was 1.55%.

Mr Trump has argued that members are not spending enough on defence to support the alliance and that the burden is on the US.

The figure that the president mentioned - $130 billion - is the amount that has been added since 2016, not per year.

"Since 2016, Canada and European allies have added $130 billion more to the defense budgets, and this number will increase to 400 billion US dollars by 2024," said Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in December 2019.

I think this election may be slightly different for many voters. Let's face it, people really didn't know Bill Clinton that well when he ran for president. As a general rule, America in general doesn't pay a lot of attention to the Governor of Arkansas. They didn't know much about Obama. Other than a speech at the Democratic convention, being a first time senator didn't give him a lot of national exposure.

So it's much easier to sell the same old lie over and over again that "The Democrats are running the most liberal, progressive candidate ever!" Yeah, that's pretty easy to do when people really don't know the candidate. So now they've shifted the message slightly, but overall it's the same old same old. Now they claim, "The Democratic party is more progressive than ever!" Like that somehow lends credence that Biden is someone other than he's always been. So let's break this down to facts rather than the rhetoric.

Biden does not support defunding the police.

He does not support the New Green Deal. He does support using certain portions of it to work toward renewable energy. Something all of us should support. But he does not support some instant change over. That's a very moderate stand.

He does not support Medicare For all. Something the right has used as a "move towards socialism".

Out of every available candidate running for the Democratic nomination, Biden was the most mainstream moderate in the crowd. Out of every candidate running, actual Democratic voters picked him. Not Bernie, or Yang or any of the other far more liberal and progressive candidates on the ballot.

So if you wish to look at "what the democratic party stands for", all you need to do is look at the choice they made, not the lying rhetoric you're being told.

The Obama Biden administration gave us 75 straight months of job growth. So the lies Trump is telling about destroying the economy are proven wrong based on the evidence.

Joe Biden is not some left wing progressive. He was not nominated on some left wing progressive platform nor is he running on some far left progressive platform.

This is just a regurgitation of the same old BS you get fed every time a Democrat runs for president. Trying to point the finger at the biggest progressives in the party and scream, "That's what they stand for!" has been proven wrong by the primary process itself which is how Biden won the nomination. Don't let their BS fool you..... again.

Honestly, the way it's broken down makes it seem like, overall, he was more honest than not. I was expecting much much worse from that fact check.

GC. Someone needs to start a thread to discuss Bidens missteps of speech and thought that so often come.

Today, the Limbaugh show plays Biden confuses the Blake shooting, and the Rittenhouse shooting,
The shooting by the police in the back of the man in Kenosha trying to get in his car door,
With the white-kid 17, who went with an AR-15 type weapon to protect a business and ended up running for his life, and knocked to the ground, twice, (the 2nd time after killing one of a group attacking him,)

and killing a 2nd person attacking him, and shooting the arm of a 3rd.

(imo, An AR-15 is a military type weapon, it's sad to feel if this white-kid didn't have it on him, he'd be dead, and it's stupid that he's even there) that's my opinion,
But!

Biden got the shootings confused when answering a question,
And I don't blame him for this, because I had the 2 incidents confused for 2 days, They both happened in the last 4-5 days

I think Biden's abilities to use speech is suspect, but I don't hold this missed answer of a question against him because I had the two incidents confused too.

He was asked about the Blake shooting, and answered by describing the incidents of the Rittenhouse shooting.

While Trump keeps telling us how Biden's America will look by showing us what Trump's America looks like. It seems they're both confused.

″Hi, This is Donald Trump Jr.,” the president’s son says in the recorded phone message. “I’m calling on behalf of the Republican National Committee because my father, President Donald J. Trump ... has already made you an official absentee ballot request which may have already arrived or will soon arrive. President Trump is counting on you to make a plan to return your absentee ballot request.”

In Ohio, You have to request your own ballot. It requires your signature. I am not sure if this varies by state, but this could very well be election fraud where someone is trying to get you to put off your request and then end up not getting your absentee ballot. Be prepared for some crazy stuff this election season like fake absentee ballots

I have been voting absentee ever since the Bush v. Kerry election when I had to wait 3 hours to vote. This year, I am voting in person even if they put our voting machines in a COVID quarantine facility.

I don't agree w/your take from the previous post. At all.

However, I do agree that the left more guilty of finger-pointing, name-calling, lying, labeling, etc recently.

In fact, it's one of the main reasons I will not vote for a Democrat this upcoming year.

Look at this board as a microcosm for society. I was a Dem my entire life. But, their constant ugliness has turned me off. You have guys like Rocket and Perfect calling others Nazis, fascists, and racists over the dumbest things and the rest of the left ignores that and jumps on anyone who dares to express an alternative opinion from their own.

They can attack all they want, but they can't change my vote.

Wait! What? They did change my vote. I always voted for the Dems. Their ugliness has indeed changed my vote. Congrats boys. And you thought you were something when you mocked me for preaching that our country should concentrate on uniting.

Video shows Trump nearly falling over while approaching the podium at New Hampshire rally

INSIDER

,INSIDER•August 28, 2020

President Donald Trump almost fell as he approached the podium at a New Hampshire campaign rally on Friday.

The rally took place less than a day after Trump closed out the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Audience members appeared to be packed together without much social distancing at the event.

President Donald Trump appeared to narrowly avoid falling over as he walked up to the podium at a campaign rally in New Hampshire on Friday evening.

Video shows Trump flailing his arms while steadying himself a few feet from the lectern after disembarking from Air Force One.

"Looks like he almost tripped," Liz Willis, a Right Side Broadcasting network announcer, remarked during a livestream of the event. "I'm sure he will make a joke out of that one in just a moment."

Watch the moment below, around the 2:54:20 mark:

Trump's rally in New Hampshire is his first campaign event since accepting the Republican Party nomination for a second term at the party's national convention in Charlotte, North Carolina earlier this week.

The campaign event was held at the PeriCohas Hangar and attendees were closely packed together without any apparent social distancing as they watched Trump speak.

The president has previously held campaign events without strict social distancing, including at an indoor rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in June, which health officials said "more than likely contributed" to the county's spike in COVID-19 cases.

Trump accidentally says the U.S. 'pioneered the fatality rate' — among other verbal slips

Catherine Garcia
,The Week•August 28, 2020

When you speak for an hour and 10 minutes, you're bound to make a flub or two, and President Trump made a few notable ones during his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention.

At the very beginning, Trump said he "profoundly" accepted this nomination for president of the United States, rather than "proudly." At another point, he should have said "personal protective equipment," but just uttered "personal" before trailing off. However, one slip stood out above the rest.

When talking about the coronavirus pandemic, which has left at least 180,000 Americans dead, Trump was supposed to say, "Thanks to advances we have pioneered, the fatality rate has been reduced by 80 percent since April." Instead, Trump said, "Thanks to advances, we have pioneered the fatality rate." Whoops.

The way it was spoken is likely more accurate than the way it was written. Good grief...

Let me translate for you; I'm willing to abandon the things I've claimed to stand for my entire life because they are have become as mean as the other side.

Handling the virus in a way that has led to more dead Americans doesn't seem as important as "They are mean!"

Constant lying from Trump isn't as important as "They are mean!".

DeVos gutting public education isn't as important as "They are mean!"

I could go on and on about all of the things Trump promotes and is doing that goes against everything you've claimed to stand for that you have decided to abandon. Biden isn't BLM. In fact, he's the most moderate candidate the Dems had to choose from.

He's denounced the violence. Harris has denounced the violence. With all of the vile things you have been posting, the name calling and nastiness is as much a part of you as it is anyone else. So you have no room left to play the victim card that you do in almost every thread these days.

I'm voting for Trump.

Since I got home from the hospital,I've been talking to a lot of people that I haven't spoken to for years. The idea is to reach out and let them know I still care about them because one never knows how suddenly life can be lost. I've been trying to do at least one phone call a night.

Most of the conversations are about old memories, families, employment, etc. Almost always, politics comes up. I have been amazed that almost every single person is voting for Trump. These aren't the kind of people who make a lot of noise on social media, but they do vote.

Biden will have plenty of gaffs and mis-speak. I am not going to get embroiled in those discussions any more than I will get sidetracked by Trump slipping on his way to the podium or when he mis-speaks. To me what's far more dangerous and telling is when he actually communicates clearly and examining his record as POTUS. I guess the gaffs are "news" and will be reported by both sides, I just wouldn't make too much out of them. And it's a bit silly for one side to claim they have the candidate that makes less gaffs - they both produce word salad on too many occasions.

Support the groups who yell "Jews will not replace us!".

Those are now your people.

I agree. We all make gaffes when we talk. Fortunately we are not all being recorded every time we speak.

I posted that for balance. Biden makes a gaffe and he has dementia and is not fit for office but trump misspeaks and it gets ignored.

That's fair enough. It's what folks do. Much was made by Trump supporters about Biden and the highlight reel of him touching kids in a creepy way ... while completely ignoring and failing to comment on Trump's famous hot mike discussion about sexual abuse and grabbing girls vaginas without consent. Much was made of Biden's one sexual accuser ... while ignoring the 28 women who have accused Trump. Folks are always happy to smear - and then point at others as being haters. Happens a lot.

Well you can certainly believe this...

Six Democratic Minnesota mayors endorse Trump for president

Is Biden out of touch with the working class? Babbit Mayor Andrea Zupancich speaks out.

They'll get their scarlet 'T' with the rest of the Trumpians when Trump is finally gone. Y'all will probably get some kind of number assigned to you too, once you get to the camps.
