It's both. Gase is an awful coach. He's a worse coach than Darnold is a QB.

But Darnold was always a project. People liked him because of his size and demeanor and age, meaning they felt a team could mold and coach him up.

Meanwhile he never did anything in college. So you put him in possibly a more dysfunctional situation than than the Browns and this is where you are.

He needed a lot of coaching and hope to be good.

Meh they're all pretty inconsistent. They can beat anyone, but they can (and do) all also lose to anyone.

They are on their second GM since Darnold and who knows, he may not like him. But other than drafting Becton he did nothing for Darnold this year. Then you have the worst coach in the league on top of that.

If anyone cares, Josh Allen had a monster game today. He got drafted into a stable situation with a good coach and D. Bought time for him to develop.

He has by far the best pocket presence of any QB in that draft but his accuracy has been shaky. But he has had some nice moments to date and seems to be improving. His teammates seem to love him.

At this point I'd settle for a season with one or the other.

You could argue the last half of 2018 but that was a half.
It would be hard to argue against 2007 but if I remember correctly it was really Game 2 through when teams figured out Anderson through a 5-10 yard pass as hard as he threw a 40 yarder.
