Steelers play them next, so their schedule will have to be altered in some way I’d assume

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

And so it begins...

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

This is probably terrible to say, but do you think the NFL is gauging the public's reaction regarding on whether to play or not?

Not terrible at all. That's exactly what they're doing, heck, that's what everybody is doing in every business, sport and profession.

For an industry that operates like the NFL does, I don't think it's callous at all. In fact, I think it's on point.

Exactly.
And, it is precisely how the NFL has operated with EVERY issue that has come up.

Does anyone think the league *really* cares about players beating their girlfriends, or taking drugs, or getting busted by the cops for various offenses? If you do, you need to check yourself.

They only care as much as it prevents public opinion of their image affecting their income and brand. That's it. Period.

They do not care about Salute to America, nor BLM, nor any other special interest. They care purely and solely about protecting and expanding their markets. If doing so necessitates lip-service be given to things, then they do so.

Cold, Hard, Reality.

It's certainly reasonable to believe that is one of the measuring sticks. It also would make sense that it depends on the star power of those infected.

Also consider, is it Derrick Henry missing the game or is it the 3rd string TE that nobody cares about and won't heavily skew the competitive balance?

The protocol the NFL and NFLPA agreed to will have to be considered strongly as well.

Right. What's the message the NFL brand want to send and can sell.

Anybody know what happens if games are cancelled? Do they reschedule? Is it a forfeit by the infected team? Will the season be extended?

Have they confirmed the tests? Remember there was a big scare a month or so ago only to find out the lab returned false positives.

I don't know, but I was wondering about that. I think they were taking some time today to confirm the testing, but I don't know if that's happened, or happening currently.

If it takes 3 to 5 days to test positive, how will they ever know by Thursday?

The weekly game schedule is terrible for a virus that also incubates for a week.

They need a bubble like NBA.. people are just careless. But everyone associated with team all need to be in bubble

How do you propose they do that with nearly 70 players and all the coaches and support staff? Not to mention places for 30 teams to practice.

Wouldn’t be difficult, money isn’t issue. You have each team bubble in their own city. Control travel means and quarantined hotels during road games

NFL wants Steelers, Titans to still play Sunday, but there is a backup plan, new report says

Titans players, staff test positive for COVID-19 days before game against Steelers

PITTSBURGH — Players for the Tennessee Titans, as well as team personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 just days before they are scheduled to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Nashville.

Three players and five personnel tested positive for the virus, according to the NFL. As of now, the game will still be played as scheduled on sunday, according to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter.

There is a possibility the game could be moved to Monday night to allow for additional testing and contact tracing, Schefter reports.

During a news conference Tuesday evening, coach Mike Tomlin said, “We’ve been given a mandate to prepare as if the game will be played, and played on time.”

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter to all team presidents and executives in the league, according to Schefter.

“This is not unexpected ... there will be players and staff who will test positive during the season,” part of the letter reads.

The Titans will suspend in-person club activities starting Tuesday, as will the Minnesota Vikings, who hosted them on Sunday. The Titans facility will be shut down until Saturday, according to The Associated Press.

Below is the full statement from the NFL:

“On Tuesday morning, the Titans COVID testing results returned three new player positives and five new personnel positives. The Titans will suspend in-person club activities starting today. Likewise, the Vikings, who played the Titans on Sunday, will also suspend in-person club activities. Both clubs are working closely with the NFL and the NFLPA, including our infectious disease experts, to evaluate close contacts, perform additional testing and monitor developments. All decisions will be made with health and safety as our primary consideration. We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.”

Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten said the team plans to go ahead with Sunday’s game.

“We have been in contact with the NFL regarding the positive COVID-19 tests with the Tennessee Titans. We have been informed to proceed with our game preparations for Sunday’s game until we are informed otherwise,” Lauten said.

The NFL is not going to play the regular season in a bubble. This was not unexpected. It's a minor blip. The season will go on.

Yeah, good news. All the players are said to be asymptomatic. The NFL is testing all these guys twice a day. They might move the game to Monday or Tuesday night, but it looks like it will be played sooner rather than later.

Living in Nashville we get a lot of local coverage on this story naturally. This is exactly what was reported yesterday on our evening news. Worse case scenario the game will be moved to either Monday or Tuesday.

To ensure there are no more positive tests and you can be cleared if you have two consecutive negative tests w/in 5 days.

Good news all around. Forfeit is always possible if you can't beat testing requirements. I imagine if this was second week of playoffs. I think this development will challenge a lot of the NFL business behemoth.

I can't see it being a forfeit, would just be a game not played, making for fun/crazy playoff chase scenarios later.

Now in the playoffs... man that would really mess things up.

It IS serious.

If ppl start getting careless, this thing could run rampant through the league.

Frankly I m surprised that we're entering week 4, after an abrdidged preseason, and we really have our 1st issue.

Another Titan player and a staff member tested positive. Game has been postponed and will be made-up later in the season. The bye weeks of the Titans and Steelers do not match-up.

I’ve seen people suggest that they should make a week 18 and have teams that have games cancelled play that week. They would just have to eliminate the bye week between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl.
