Looks like this is going to be a thing. Maybe we can have one thread for it in the PFF? And maybe others in the PP and EE forums if y'all desire.

That’s three games that’ll have to be postponed.

This is no surprise. It was bound to happen and will continue to happen. It is not possible to do what it takes to play NFL football without exposing the players and coaching staff to Covid. Wait until a couple of these older coaches get it and end up in really bad shape... But money was more important so they will play on. If someone dies, I guess that us just the price of doing business.

Problem will be that the final two weeks include a lot of divisional games ... and that throws everything off for playoffs

Half of the leagues is going to be in the playoffs anyway with the expanded PO structure. Making inter-division game a little less important. Note I said a little. But there will be divisions with 3 teams in the playoffs. Not impossible for four now.

All it takes is ONE. Then they all go into a locker room and breath the same air and boom half the team has it. The entire team doesn't need to be reckless. Just one is all it takes.

I’m just surprised the NFL didn’t make the season a few weeks longer and provide more bye weeks for flexibility.

I had the same thought. In the end, they will likely have to extend the season or call it a day.

And then there's the issue of the tests... which seem to be TOTALLY unreliable!

They are not totally unreliable, especially if you can retest immediately. Think about how many tests these guys are taking, one a day per player and essential staff, and they had one false positive.

One false positive?? Didn't we start the season with a report of twenty-some players infected?? All turned out to be false positives. Yes. TOTALLY unreliable.

Also, quit reporting infections until you test twice... or three times, or maybe five times just to be sure.

Or the 77 earlier this year, and not from thousands, from 10 teams.

Whatever, you like to be right so your right. The testing is reliable.

Well you know how some people are calling science politics now, so...

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Actually it doesn't take anyone to be reckless.

For all you guys that get upset people like me haven't fallen in to panic mode over this, the above is a prime example of why, and why many people are skeptical of what really is hype.

Masks, social distancing, shutting down public gathering places... those are all things that can help reduce the risk of exposure, not ways that prevent someone from contracting it. I'll repeat this last part for those in the back: not ways that prevent someone from contracting it. So to be presumptuous and immediately jump to the accusatory that someone on these teams must have been reckless is dishonest.

Not sure they could extend it much....maybe a week.

You can't just move an event like the Superbowl back.

As I begin my last day in quarantine, I can attest to this. This is absolutely correct.

How does a league celebrating its 100th season only recognize the 53 most recent championships?

fate, many lab tests have false positives and false negatives. From what I have read the false positive rate of the China virus test is less than 1%. The false negative rAte is extremely low, close to 0.

The 6k were pretty loud.

Maybe this increase will help represent that home field advantage.

Stephon Gilmore did as well, who was in close contact with many people

They should have started the season two weeks earlier to allow for flexibility. This season will be a mess.

It was always going to be a mess no matter what. They couldn’t start the season early because they waited till the last minute, hoping the virus would be gone, to negotiate terms with the players.

If the season needs to be extended due to postponements, it theoretically could be done by moving games to neutral warm weather/dome sites. Or is there a collective bargaining year end/year begin issue that crops up?

j/c:

I think playing in a bubble was unrealistic for the NFL. I do think the owners could have done more to decrease the chances of positive Covid cases.

While playing in a bubble was impossible, I believe that if the owners were willing to spend the money, they could have put the players and staff in a hotel or hotels and then bussed them to the practice facility. Thus, the players would have been isolated from the general public except for game days.

I think that we are seeing that those who are getting the virus are contacting it when they are away from the team. I don't think they are catching it during games.

I fully understand that the cost would have been phenomenal, but the players and staff would have been much safer and the problems that Covid is likely to cause would have been greatly diminished.

Good points. But all the "would haves" (in retrospect, probably "should haves") don't have to remain past tense. I wonder if there is any consideration to taking steps like this going forward?

This is going to get ugly, one reason why is the demeanor from the league... You can only play the "read and react" defense for so long.

Also, we couldn't have really started the season earlier, but there was talk by the league that a firm deadline on the SB was Feb 28, I wonder if there is any agreement with Raymond James Stadium to possibly extend the date of the game? That gives them three additional weeks to account for displaced games.

I was listening to a discussion about isolating the teams in hotels a little bit ago. They could still pull it off moving forward. The issue is the amount of money the it would take from the owners.

The NFL and insiders always knew this season wasn't about fairness. It's about not losing the revenue. Now, it looks like there is a very real possibility that not all of the teams will play a full schedule, but the NFL is going to make sure this season is completed w/a Super Bowl champion one way or another.

I look at what is going on w/Tennessee. Their game this weekend could be in peril. How would they make-up two games?

Why is it so hard to add an extra week or two at the end of the season as make up dates.

JMHO, about 1/3 of country doesn't think we need masks. Asking, forcing players to leave families, live in hotels for months for employment wouldn't cut it with NFL Players association. Some wives couldn't handle it, some players, guys, either. We've seen more football than I ever thought we'd see. This thing could EASILY go down the tubes.....GO Browns!!!

You gotta think something like this is far more serious (and will be handled as such) than the coaches wearing masks on the sidelines thing, right?

The NFL and Troy Vincent had previously issued a memo staing a loss of draft picks could be a penalty for a blatant disregard of the protocols.
