I thought Collinsworth raised an interesting comparison in John Elway. Definitely true from a mechanics standpoint... not so much with the legs (obviously).

This season could have magic in it.
We shall see. Could not be more into it. I mean I have nightly visions like a kid tonight waiting for morning.
But whatever happens this season. Next year going into a season with all we have in place.
Not having to open a new playbook. Not trying to learn everything at one time. Not having to deal with Covid protocols.
Starting with everybody knowing what to expect. Adding more talent to a already good team.
Practicing and refining rather new learning.
Damn. Hard to not get juiced just thinking about that.
The last time I felt this way was when Bernie was drafted.

I know people think for the best, but I figure there's no guarantee next year is better than an 8 loss season, look at all the variables, and teams that jump up. The Texans were very good just 1 or 2 years ago, not sure.
The Bengals will have their QB back, maybe, Even the Patriots may figure things out, There are no guarantees,
they need to make the most of This Year! (Get the next out)
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I was starting to ? Baker a bit too but I did always say that this is his 4th HC and the 3rd O system he's had to learn. I said we should be patient with him and see how he is at the end of the season. Well, I guess he's improved and there is room to get even better!!! Do you guys think that Baker's intelligence may be a bit underrated? Not that I think anyone has ever suggested that he's dumb, but I see how much he has learned over these 3 seasons and have to wonder if he's not given enough credit in that area.

I think the credit or lack there of was contingent on where he was in the process. You can only judge where someone is based on what they are doing.
Being slow to go through his progressions I'm sure gave some the impression it may have had to do with intelligence and I can certainly understand that.
I was one who wanted to see him have time to adjust to a system that a competent coach could install before passing any final judgement on Baker. But that's always been my approach to things.
I think a HC should be given the talent to succeed before I judge them and I think players need a HC that can help them succeed. It takes both ingredients to achieve success.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

The last time I felt this way was when Bernie was drafted.
For me, it was a few drafts later, when we added Metcalf and Lawyer Tillman... I expected to ride out Bernie's career with a return to dominance.

I had great hope with Bernie.
Felt he was a winner. Smart guy who just knew what it takes.
Right now I am very optimistic about what we have going on.
GM/HC insync. Smart guys who know the road to success. And it seems like they have their guy.
Those three components GM/HC/QB can do wonders.
So the island feels great.

Going forward I am all in with Baker.
He has heart.
He is our quarterback and that is all.
He came here to win and he has.
He may not be the best quarterback but I have always taken to players who play like he does.
He is about all out effort to win. I can live with that.

Dying Browns' Fan Celebrates with the Mayfields Browns fan Tom Seipel, who is battling kidney cancer, was there Sunday as Baker Mayfield, on 3rd and 2, ran for three yards with 1:10 left on the clock to seal the Browns first trip to the NFL playoffs since January 2003. Seipel, whose story caught the attention of Emily Mayfield, was watching from the Mayfield suite as the team celebrated. Seipel, who served as a missionary in Nicaragua before his cancer diagnosis, isn’t sure how long he has to live, but Sunday he was there watching as the curse that has surrounded the Cleveland franchise was lifted. Emily, who heard about Seipel’s situation just before Christmas and had Baker make a personal video for Tom, was there to celebrate with the Columbus native after the 24-22 win over the Steelers. It’s been a complete whirlwind for Seipel who has been receiving in-home Hospice care. He found out Friday that Browns fans had tickets for him to attend the Steelers game if he could make it north from Savannah, Georgia. According to Cleveland.com, Seipel’s father advised him to jump at the opportunity if he felt good enough to make it happen. Tom decided he had to do it. Browns fans covered the expenses and Mayfield offered up the suite. “If I’m going to die freezing my butt off at FirstEnergy Stadium,” Seipel told Cleveland.com, “what a way to go out.” When the starting quarterback’s wife is one of your biggest cheerleaders, you are taken care of at First Energy Stadium. Emily Mayfield made sure of it. “You don’t understand how much she kept in touch,” Seipel told the Cleveland outlet. “She would literally send me a message every night, ‘How are you feeling today?” Emily dialed up Baker after the game so Tom could express his joy over what just happened. “I told you we were doing it,” Baker said.

That story hits me hard.
I lost a very close friend who I watched games with for thirty years.
I think of him during every game.
The Browns and sports maybe should not be so important but they are. They occupy a space in many of our lives.
When the world spins around us and so much seems to push us around. Sports and the Browns are an island. A sanctuary where we can retreat to where all that other stuff can take a hike for awhile.
I am glad that the Mayfield family reached out and helped Tom.
Thank You on behalf of their family.

Jack Conklin says biggest change in QB Baker Mayfield this season is how he's learned to sometimes throw the ball away and live to see another down: "You don’t have to extend plays all the time if there isn’t someone open." (Then he jokes about not jinxing anything!) And then when I ask Jack Conklin for the biggest personality surprise in QB Baker Mayfield, he says... wait for it... "He's finally accepted he has 'Little Man Syndrome.'" We'll see if Baker cops to it when he talks this week... https://twitter.com/AKinkhabwala/status/1346169323719692296

6-foot-6 RT Jack Conklin used to kid Baker Mayfield about acting out little man's syndrome. Conklin: "You can't even joke with him about it any more. "He just says, 'Yeah, I have it." https://twitter.com/sdoerschukREP/status/1346168434808287232

It's funny how relative things are. Baker is over 6 feet tall and he has little man's syndrome, and does kind of look the part when he's on the field, haha.
Kind of like how Kyrie is 6'2", but every time I'd watch him on the Cavs, I was left with the impression that he was 4'9".

One take some on here have had about Baker was a negative opinion regarding his attitude and or character. Right or wrong they looked at some of his behavior and developed conclusions about him as a person.
Being an Ohio State fan I absolutely hated it when he spiked the OU flag at Ohio stadium. There were some other college events that affected opinions also. Because of some of these I was not thrilled when we selected him, but once we did I wanted him to be the best.
I think some people would rather be right about their evaluations of players and have players the don't think are worthy of their draft position fail, than the team they actively cheer for, to succeed just so they can do the "I told you so".
Having said that I am not sure how many of you listened to Baker's post game comments yesterday. Not sure how many of these he did yesterday but it was right after the game on 92.3.
A reporter asked about Joel B speaking to the team because he had been here the longest of the players and endured the losing. Baker mentioned Joel thanked his teammates and Baker said he was so glad he could help bring a winning season for guys that had not experienced it yet. Also for the fans and the city of Cleveland.
Then he said something I don't think I ever heard an athlete in a similar situation say. He said he was especially glad for the Browns' support staff, trainers etc because they work put in more time and work than players and they have felt the losing also. He mentioned some of them had been around a couple decades.
I think that showed a lot of maturity and empathy. Probably doesn't erase some of his negative acts in the eyes of many fans, but to me it was a very mature thing to do.

Baker has matured a ton this year on and off the field. He's generally keeping his social media presence less controversial. On the field he's turned into a true leader, he's making much smarter decisions with the football, his celebrations are still fun to watch without being "too much". His understanding of this new offense really has kicked in.
Now, to get to the next level... he has to stay a little calmer in the pocket, he has been much better going through his progressions but he still looks antsy too quick, like he wants to bail. He needs to continue to solidify his mechanics, too many passes seem to sail high or be low when they don't need to be, putting WRs at risk of big hits (Peoples-Jones) and negating possible YAC.
I think an off-season where he can really focus on fine-tuning things instead of learning yet another new offense is going to do wonders for him in that regard.

he has to stay a little calmer in the pocket, he has been much better going through his progressions but he still looks antsy too quick, like he wants to bail. Could not disagree with this more. He's quietly become an outstanding pocket passer. He has worked on every weakness everyone knew he had and improved on them. too many passes seem to sail high or be low when they don't need to be, putting WRs at risk of big hits (Peoples-Jones) and negating possible YAC. Could not agree with this more. I think an off-season where he can really focus on fine-tuning things instead of learning yet another new offense is going to do wonders for him in that regard. Could not agree with this more as well.

I think an off-season where he can really focus on fine-tuning things instead of learning yet another new offense is going to do wonders for him in that regard. He had a year, plus, to ingrain those bad habits... it'll take at least as long to work those tendencies out. I think we're seeing that he has the ability to do so (he's shown significant, obvious improvement in those hard-to-find QB attributes).
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
