I can't help but feel that catching COVID was all part of Stefanski's plan anyhow. Part of a major diversion.
Sorry, it's gallows humor.

That's the way I see it. Stefanski is a man who is playing chess instead of checkers. If that was the plan, he's playing Russian Roulette, not chess. We had a one score (8 point) lead and got the ball with 10 minutes to go. Any points at the end of a nice drive basically seals the game and Chubb didn't get a single carry... and we ended up having to defend a 2 point conversion to avoid likely overtime.. or go to a point where we were relying on Parkey, possibly from distance.. We were in a "win and you're in" position, this was for all purposes, a playoff game... you don't play to set up next week, you play to get to next week.

Getting in isn't the goal. Winning the SB is the goal. There was a high probability we would be playing the Steelers again and that came to fruition. Tipping your hand and not preparing with the following week in mind would have been very short sighted in the grand scheme of things.
I know everyone loves the entire "one game at a time" mantra, but those without long term plans and goals always seem to come up short. We didn't.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

The only thing I can think of is that he perhaps saw things that he just knew was working every single time, and once he identified that, he knew he could go back to it at any time if we needed a quick score. If so, then I can understand wanting to stay away from doing that stuff if you can because that is something you can pull out of the toolbox over and over next week when they don't have seven days to work on it. Probably a bit too contrived to believe, but it does give an explanation that would make a little more sense.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Winning the super bowl becomes, statistically, much more difficult if you don't make the playoffs.. and we were one failed 2-point conversion attempt away from potentially not making the playoffs. At that point, you stop worrying about next week. And you will have to excuse my football ignorance but I fail to see how running plays that we have run all year.... with Chubb instead of Hunt, because Chubb had been much more productive throughout this game, is tipping our hand at anything.

It all came down to a sack on 3rd and 3 that knocked us out of FG range. We had the ball for 6:30 before that. It seems unreasonable to think everything would have been different, and so much better, with Chubb in there. JMO

It's obvious we're just never going to agree on this. Stefanski had every option at his disposal had he have needed it. He didn't need it. I'm more about the bottom line than what might have been.
