I keep hearing this around the net, but I don't understand it.

If you can get the largest trade return in NFL history and start your rebuild now, even before free agency, why would you not? Because you want to call his bluff? Watch him not report to camp, fine him, threaten to sit out all season, threaten to retire, earn a lot of bad press across the league, have future players refuse to come there for being petty and alienate a ton of fans by knowingly walking into a losing season without plan to rebuild the team all out of spite.

I see that as a lose lose situation. Announce to the league you want X amount of first rounders (or since he has a no-trade, the teams he's willing to be traded to), apologize in the media to Watson for screwing up and then begin your rebuild. Playing hardball just makes you look bad and wastes a year of the rebuild.

This is the player empowerment era. Like it or not, it's hear to stay.

I think it's because the 'math' just doesn't quite work out. Normally I don't like connecting the trade for picks with the guys you picked them with, but to come out the other end of these transactions intact (much less ahead) you HAVE to get a similarly effective QB out of the trade haul and that'll be EXTREMELY difficult to do, with how good Watson is.

That wasn't ineptness - unless you're talking about Hue trying to initiate that trade being the ineptness. The fax machine "fiasco" was Sashi saving us from a bad trade.

I think it was a case of 2 wrongs making a right... I don't think it was intentional.

DeShaun Watson feels the owner lied to him about his input in the future of the franchise. It is his right to request a trade. The Texans don’t have to honor his request. He doesn’t have to show up.

JMO, but Watson appears to the type that reacts to first impressions but can change his mind given time to think.

Unless there is already a team involved, showing interest in Watson, I believe their is a good chance that Watson remains a Texan.

And the game of chicken has officially started. We'll see who gets splattered all over the road in a few months. Somehow I think the Texans will lose this, even if they "win".

We do play the Texans next year, so I suppose they hope Deshaun sits out and they go winless.

C'mon bro lol. So the not-so-conspiratorial theory is that Sashi forgot how to send a fax? Really?? rofl

Please show me any tangible evidence that is what happened? All we know is the deal wasn't sent. Why that happened is no more than a guess on anyone's part.

Anything other than total guesswork would be a good starting point. But that doesn't exist.

There is no concrete evidence either way. Given most conspiracy theories nowadays, your best bet would be to provide evidence that Sashi tried to fax the trade over but couldn't work the fax machine. Then all the Q-Anon folks would back you up that he did it on purpose.

The tangible evidence is that Hue was the only one dumb enough to think AJ McCarron was a franchise qb.

Hue was desperate for a win and AJ was the only semi competent QB that knew his offense. The move was Hue grasping at straws. BTW ... where is Mr Katherine Webb these days ?

edit .. Just looked it up .. he's with the Houston Texans .. rofl

We actually play a handful of teams who could be in QB flux (Houston, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Denver, Las Vegas) ... of course some of them will be status quo, but maybe not

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

If Watson wants a trade I would go to him and tell him that I will gladly trade him and I will even TRY to trade him to a decent team, but only if he waves the no-trade clause. I will not go into a trade in a really weak position. Now, if he really wants to be gone then that is what has to happen. Otherwise, he is a Texan until I can get what I want for him or until he hits free agency whichever comes first. Then I set about trying to find the next QB and the ball is in his court.

Yet Haslam approved the move. The GM doesn't take his orders from the HC.

Do you have "tangible evidence" of that? grin For all you know, Halsem told Sashi to break the fax machine after giving Hue the nod. But I do think there's a possibility of Haslem approving....given his meddling in the drafting of Johnny Football.

Ah, do words straight from the horses mouth mean anything to you? You can do your best dog and pony show to dismiss it, but it's far better than anything you can come close to presenting.

It is Sashi himself saying he did not sabotage the trade and that the entire organization was on board.

And see, that's what I expected. Even when it comes straight from the horses mouth all you get in response is, "Yeah but that doesn't count". Nothing to dispute it and only to call the person who made the statement a liar.

And people make judgement calls on when they do and when they don't believe them based on what they want to believe. They take them at their word based on what they want to believe. That's exactly what we're seeing here.

The story was that Sashi left it to the secretary to do the actual faxing and that is the person who sent it to the wrong number.

My guess is that Sashi was against the deal, and left it to an admin to do the admin stuff out of frustration... and probably wasn't at all disappointed over the flubb (other than taking grief over the screwups). While he wasn't on board with the trade, his actions didn't raise to the level of sabotage.

See, I have no idea of what actually happened. The story you presented seems like a logical conclusion but I really have no way of knowing. My only real point is that neither does anyone else. This comment isn't directed towards you because you made it clear that it was a guess.

How quickly we forget....
Texans so far wouldn't even register on the Browns ineptness scale.

We tried to trade I-don't-even-remember-how-many picks for AJ McCarron, but didn't when we couldn't properly operate a fax machine.

We followed up a 1-win season with a 0-win season.

We had an OC campaign to be let go.

We had a GM get busted/punished for texting down to coaches on the field on gameday.

Same GM dropped a top-10 selection on a guy he never talked to in-person.

That's just off the top of my head (and I'm currently operating on like 2 hours of sleep).

Being bad at football and being inept at running a franchise isn't synonymous. We were bad, yes, but we weren't in the realm of ineptitude of the Texans. Not even close. Although without Watson, the Texans might have been 0-16.

We never took a playoff team and dismantled it, giving away picks for absolutely nothing, and alienating the franchise quarterback.

The Texans don't know what the want, Browns knew what they wanted but didn't know how to get it. The Texans gave no plan, no vision (even if they say they did). We did.

Seriously, what is with this obsession to argue the minutia of something that happened 4-5 years ago between people no longer relevant to the team?!

When you have little to argue about with the current team, you revise History and argue that.

Who is better, Couch or Holcomb .. Anderson or Quinn .. How about Kosar or Testaverde ?
