I'm not either but it doesn't take much imagination for me to understand.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Its not about the Indians name change, but I guess this can go in this thread:M.L.B. Will Add Negro Leagues to Official RecordsNew York Times Dec 16, 2020 More than 3,400 players from seven leagues that operated from 1920 to 1948 will now be considered major leaguers in a move that will shake up the record books. Why is "history" always being punished for not having some magical foresight I don't see it as 'history being punished.' Instead, I see it as history continuing to spin out over the course of time. Nothing stays the same forever... and changing a professional sports team's name/logo/mascot is a relatively small thing, imo. I look at it this way: in 1999, if our beloved football team came back as the Cleveland Bulldogs or Sentinels or Avengers, etc, I would still follow them. Why? because My Tribe lives in Cleveland. 'Baltimore Browns' would be dead to me. This is a relatively minor thing to me. Next year, when the Cleveland Guardians (or Armadillos or Marsupials or Caped Crusaders) make a playoff run, I'm there. They don't have to be the Cleveland Indians to be My Team. FATE, my friend: it's not "History being punished." It's simply History continuing to be written. New chapters, new names. New memories to be made. .02, clem.

The Cleveland Caped Crusaders, I like it! The only question is: Would they have to wear capes during the game?

With respect, it doesn't matter what you mean. Sitting Bull and others killed many US Soldiers at Little Big Horn.
You can't pick and choose when it is OK and when it isn't. Sure we can. And we should. It's called nuance and context. In the PP forum, you yourself have stated more than once that you'd have no problem meeting a threat to your household with whatever force was necessary to negate that threat. Perfectly understandable. By natural extension, if it's OK for you to defend your home/community/family, it should be OK for Sitting Bull, Blue Jacket or Tecumseh to have defended theirs (there is Shawnee heritage in our family tree). Gotta toss the flag on this one, bro. Your argument only works if we first agree that it's OK for Peen- but not for others. Can't go there with you. I was raised differently than that. .02

FATE, my friend: it's not "History being punished." It's simply History continuing to be written.
New chapters, new names. New memories to be made. If you live long enough, you reach a point where everything and everyone you knew and held close, that maintained you and made up the fabric of your life, is gone. I'm a baseball fan; baseball is my favorite sport, and the Indians are my team, since I was old enough to lay on the floor watching an old B&W TV console with my Dad sitting in his naugahyde recliner. Fast forward to yesterday afternoon ... I'm in my basement, with a load of laundry in the washer, doing my so-called workout in front of a TV, and I see "Major League", about a half-hour in, on Showtime. So I'm watching it while I do my workout, and then I'm just sitting there on the weight bench watching Willie Mays Hayes score from 2B on a bunt while Bob Uecker is screaming "INDIANS WIN! INDIANS WIN! OMIGOD, THE INDIANS WIN! Crowd goes crazy, city goes crazy, and best of all, Jake gets the girl. And being a sap, I'm sitting there crying. Not because I'm happy, like the first time my wife and I saw it at the theater, but because I realized its now another thing that's just ... gone. So you might say "What's the big deal? Its just a name.". But its MY team and its MY team's name. And it matters to me.

You did a much better job of describing the situation than I did .. well done. Maybe if we also put it content with all we witnessed from Cancel Culture this year on top of everything else.

Sometimes it looks to me that some people go out of their way to be offended by something and feel the need to erase that thing from existence just to do so. Little by little the perpetually offended will chip away at everything until we have a bland sterile 1984 Big Brother world where even thought is suppressed.

Ridiculous money for a guy who has never won more than 17 games (once) in a 10 year career. Don't misunderstand, he has a great arm, and I'm happy for him, just please don't tell me there's a level playing field among MLB franchises. The Dodgers' payroll is now approaching $280M.

Just for reference, Bauer will make more than the entire Cleveland Indians team.
Edited to add, oops, the second tweet showing that wasn't loading for me at first.

First off the Bauer money is sick.
By his third year he will be making almost $4m a month.
He will make maybe 6 starts in a month. Think about that. Then he will only play for 7 months.
The Pirates whole payroll is less and the Tribe is not much more.
I hate that. I really do.
There should be a salary cap and a salary minimum.
Teams like the Yankees and Dodgers outspend other teams by 4x. That should not be. How can that be competitive?
When I think of all the players that came up as Indians and then were forced to leave it is sickening. The Dolan's should either be forced to pay half of the largest cap or sell to someone who can. And that goes for all the other clubs as well. 2x more is the most one team should be able to spend more than another team. =======================================
I am a Indians and Braves fan. I live outside Atlanta.
Really happy the Braves signed Marcel Ozuna.
The Dodgers will be the favorites in the NL. However, the Braves are right there. If they end up playing for the NLCS I like our chances.
The Braves lineup is outstanding. Great starting staff and bullpen. Decent bench that will be added onto. Very balanced team. They can do it all. Power, defense, speed, pitching, OBP, pen. Every facet is covered.
The Tribe will compete for the Central with their pitching. They just do not have the horsepower to go further.
Totally ready for baseball season to begin.

They really need to come up with a salary cap for baseball, my Reds went all out last year spending money to try and reach the Series but because of all the lost revenue money from no fans this year they are cutting back payroll and letting guys walk. For a small market team to win you need to have a really good farm system and hope for some luck that a lot of your guys come on at the same time because of the limited time you will be able afford them.

There are no guarantee's in sports. You have to play the games.
However, in my heart I honestly feel 2021 could be the year I have been waiting for.
The Browns will challenge to win the Super Bowl.
And the Atlanta Braves will challenge to win the World Series.
Both teams will be in the mix and both are capable to win it all.
I plan to have a good time watching it all. Once baseball starts I will be ready.

Personally, I am quite happy with the name change. It is offensive to Native Americans and as such should be changed. If the team was called the "Cleveland N-word's" would you be ticked the name was being changed? It is the right thing to do and I am glad they are finally doing so. I support the teams from this area. The Cleveland area. As someone said above, if the Browns had come back under another name I would still be a fan of OUR team regardless of the name. I will still cheer for the Cleveland Baseball team regardless of whatever new name is chosen. Doing the right thing is more important than a name.

You may want to check out lyrics to Weeknd's songs........but he got rewarded with the half time show at the super bowl.
I'd never heard of him until this. I've checked out some songs.............wow.
I'm sure he'll tame it down for the half time show though, right?

You're entitled to your opinion, but I don't agree with the equivalence you claim between "Indians" and "N-word". As far as whether Native Americans think "Indians" is offensive, I recall several polls being cited here on Dawgtalkers showing that not to be the case.

Never good when your resume highlight is a below-league-average stat.

I can see our lineup looking like this:
I think Bobby Bradley will lock down 1B, and Yu Chang will be the SS.
1. Hernandez 2B 2. Ramirez 3B 3. Rosales RF/LF 4. Reyes DH 5. Naylor LF/RF 6. Bradley 1B 7. Chang SS 8. Perez C 9. Mercado CF
Just my $0.02.

I like Chang, but I think they'll go with either Amed Rosario or Andres Gimenez at short. They gave up too much to get them not to. I also think Eddie Rosario will play LF with Naylor and Luplow platooning in RF, unless Naylor wins the job outright.
