There's also the point that the Sox are in the same division as the Yankees and in order to be competitive with them have to play that game. They're not going to sit idly by and let the Yankees have the division every year.

Granted... Building from the organization sure isn't working for the Devil Rays... I don't think they'll ever contended for the East.

Luckily for all Bosox fans, every team in the MLB doesn't see it that way. Because if every team in the MLB purchased talent the way the Red Sox do, the Red Sox wouldn't have an unfair advantage over everybody else. Oh, and btw, even the Yankees utilize more homegrown talent than the Red Sox.

I'll say Boston in 5. That's way too big of a payroll to lose to a team like the Rockies.- You know, a team that respects the integrity of baseball.

Man, you talk about other people not having a comeback and then you are just like an old record. Obviously having a bigger payroll helps them a great deal, but it isn't the end all, be all for winning. If you think it is, just go to New York and ask the Yankees. If payroll was the only thing that factored in, Cleveland would have been annihilated by the Yankees in the divisional series. Ask the Marlins a few years ago how well that giant payroll of theirs factored into them winning. Baseball is obviously flawed, but don't blame a team for doing everything within its power to win. Until the rules change, you can't blame the team for doing what gives them the best chance to win.

If nobody voices their opinion then perhaps nothing will ever change. Come on man, if you see something that you don't agree with you shouldn't simply rationalize in favor of those you don't agree with. I hope you don't do that, do you?

I'm not saying anyone should rationalize towards something they don't agree with, but I am saying that if you are going to trying to get something changed and make a stand towards something, you need to go to go straight to the monster, not the people who happen to benefit from it. I agree 100% that the rules need to change, but complaining about 1 of the many teams that exploit the rule, granted to various degrees, won't change a thing, because they can just turn and point the finger at all the other teams doing the exact same thing. last time I checked, MLB makes the rules, not the Redsox.

Jacoby Ellsbury Steals a Base, Steals Tacos for America
Friday October 26, 12:55 am ET
Stolen Base in 4th Inning During Game Two of 2007 MLB(R) World Series(R) Garners Free Taco for America From Taco Bell(R)

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Stolen Base, Stolen Tacos.

In the bottom of the 4th inning of Game Two at the Major League Baseball World Series in Boston, Boston Red Sox centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury stole second base and became the first ever Major League Baseball player to steal millions of tacos for America. As promised, Taco Bell®, the Official Quick Service Restaurant of Major League Baseball, is prepared to serve millions of Americans a free Seasoned Beef Crunchy Taco as part of its “Steal A Base, Steal A Taco” MLB World Series promotion.

Fans can visit any participating Taco Bell on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (local time) and claim their free taco.

“We were cheering alongside the entire nation, knowing someone would steal a taco for America,” said David Ovens, chief marketing officer, Taco Bell Corp. “While some are fans of the long ball and others might enjoy a pitcher’s duel, we can now safely say that everyone is a fan of the stolen base.”

Always known to “Think Outside the Bun,” Taco Bell creatively partnered with Major League Baseball on its “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promotion. The company is famously remembered for its “Free Taco Targets” which it has previously placed at the World Series.

No Purchase Necessary. Subject to official rules found in-store and online at www.StealaBaseStealaTaco.com. If a base is stolen during regulation or extra innings play by any player for either team in the 2007 MLB World Series, Taco Bell® will offer every person in the U.S. the opportunity to obtain one (1) free Seasoned Beef Crunchy Taco (Approximate Retail Value 77¢, prices may vary) at participating Taco Bell® restaurants in the United States on the date designated herein. Eligible consumers can obtain their free Seasoned Beef Crunchy Taco on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 (if base is stolen in Games 1 or 2 on October 24 or October 25, 2007) OR November 6, 2007 (if base is stolen in Games 3-7, October 27, 28, 29, 31, November 1, 2007) ("Redemption Date") only. To obtain the Free Taco, consumers must visit any participating Taco Bell® restaurant in one of the fifty (50) United States or District of Columbia between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. (local time) on the Redemption Date only and request a Free Crunchy Seasoned Beef Taco. Limit one (1) Free Crunchy Season Beef Taco per person. Void where prohibited. Offer valid at participating Taco Bell® locations.

I don't think they will, 337.

Being a Red Sox fan has rarely been more phenomenal than it is right now and watching the Browns becoming a team is just that much better. My friend in Vermont said to me, "I wouldn't mind a sweep." I laughed and hung up on him because it's too surreal to have it go so well, so easily.

I think the Rockies fans are pretty cool. they never give up; we all know that anything can happen. But I have to say that I, as my friend Mark would say, "wouldn't mind a sweep." That said, taking it in 5 would be lots of fun too. You just never know.

Loving Jacoby Ellsbury, the 2-RBI single hitting Dice K, and Papelbon's enthusiasm. I know not many around here care how good this feels for me but it feels too good to care. I believe. Go Red Sox.

Boston needs to win and put Colorado out of their misery. Boston was the best team in baseball for most of the year and are now. The cream always rises to the top.

I'm just glad MLB is going to make absolutely NOTHING off this playoffs. Only 1 of 5 series went more then the minimum? Good riddance. Excessive payroll is not good for the game......... maybe one day they'll realize that.

Yankees/Indians went 4, and Red Sox/Indians went 7.... I think those are the only two.

ok, so 2 series, both courtesy of Cleveland, went 4 games over the min (total). MLB still lost a TON of money in this whole deal.....which I couldn't be more happy about.

So for all the Boston fans in here....does Cleveland have just as good of a chance to sign A-Rod? No, really......please tell me you have no advantage.

It's just silly for me to listen to announcers say......"well A-Rod is opting out of his deal and there are only 2 teams that could potentially sign him." LMAO......sounds like competitive balance.

I think you're missing the point. You (along with others) were trying to say that Boston doesn't have an advantage over any other major league team in terms of spending money......which is obviously a joke.

Hell, even when the Cubs went on a spending spree their payroll wasn't even 100 Million (damn close)....... which was a solid 40+ mil under Boston's.

Not once did I say we didn't have an advantage. I said you can't blame us for spending the money to win. Like I said, blame MLB if you want, but you can't blame us. I never said we didn't have an advantage over some teams. But, we don't have an advantage over teams like the Mets, Yankees, and Cubs. But, we're still winning, while they're not. That's all I'm saying.

Some teams? The only team you DON'T have an advantage over MIGHT be NY. Even so, after this season, Boston could EASILY pass NY in payroll...especiallly if A-ROD leaves NY and Boston signs him.

I just think baseball in general, including Boston, is a joke. The only teams (or fans) that agree with it are those in Boston or NY. I honestly hope the Cubs break the bank and sign A-Rod......just so I don't have to hear another word about the Yanks or Soxs this entire off-season.
