I can't answer for him. I think at LB'er we needed a spy for Lamar. Walker may fit that bill.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

They were both dealing with injuries in a new system in an unusual work environment. They're both young. We're a good team now, we'd best hope we can draft and develop. It looks like we'll finally have a staff/systems in place for awhile. We shouldn't be picking high in the draft again any time soon. Time will tell what we have in those two. From all accounts, they are putting in the work and have talent. With any luck, they'll get plenty of reps this offseason and can grow in their roles.

He may have an argument regarding Wilson, but Philips was a rookie (and missed valuable time due to injury).

Mack Wilson hyperextended his knee shortly before the season started and they were initially worried he'd be out for the year. Then they gave him a 6-8 week timeline for recovery, but that's still a lot of missed time. Having to get back into the flow, trusting the knee, and getting up to game speed while only getting limited reps isn't easy.

It seems a bad sort of season for making a judgement on him to me. Phillips as well.

Keep them as question marks, sure, but it's too soon to count either of them out if you ask me.

he was bad the year before too..Look I understand wanting picks to pan out and I actually think Phillips has a better chance than Wilson to pan out, but these guys are really bad. The whole LB room was, until we get a stud in the middle, it will be hard to judge these guys because noone knows what they were being asked to do, but I wouldn't plan my defense around these guys making big leaps. You hope, but you def. don't make moves assuming

From PD article: https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2021/03...right-away.html

Walker replaces middle linebacker B.J. Goodson, who’s a free agent. Goodson was ranked higher than Walker by Pro Football Focus, but brings an element of speed at linebacker that was missing last season. Goodson was ranked No. 26 overall by Pro Football Focus and No. 2 in tackling. Walker was ranked No. 74 overall, and No. 20 in tackling. Goodson was ranked 26th in coverage, Walker 55th. So like I said, speed or not, just because you can get to the ball carrier faster just to whiff doesn't mean you're an upgrade. This is just rearranging chairs for younger uglier chairs that don't recline. Hope he works here, but I don't think he's an upgrade at all. Maybe thats all the money Berry wanted to spend at LB and he values the picks more and Goodson might want more or too many years. But it def. isn't about production

Me either. Phillips was playing at a high level the last few games. Mack, I am not so sure of, but the injury was still a factor. Smith is our coverage guy, Walker is a smart player, and a good tackler. Phillips is a sideline to sideline guy, and a good tackler. Taki, who is bashed a lot here, rated as one of the best LBs against the run.

Goodson played good, but is slow.

This YouTube report by Quincy Carrier reveals the not-so-obvious value that Anthony Walker is likely to bring to the Browns. Aside from his physical ability if he can put guys in better alignment on a play-by-play basis that will make all the players around him better. The Browns D has been notorious for not being in a position to make plays including last season.

That's why Colts players were so effusive about him.

So what you're sayin is we now have Walker to keep the front 6/7 in position and JJ3 to keep the DBs in the right position.

So your saying with Walker keeping our front 7 in position and John Johnson keeping our secondary in position we should have great improvement on Defense this year thumbsup

So the guy is fast , but the knock on him with Colts was his coverage skills ????

He is a 4.65 40 guy. I have never watched him in college, or paid any attention to him with the colts, but I hear he is very quick 10 yard, and 20 yard bursts rather than just fast over a longer distance.

That's odd...I read this morning that burst/explosiveness is his issue. He's otherwise "fast" with excellent recognition.

Mixed reviews?

Not fluid in the hips, and moves much slower going backwards.

IMO, he's no worse than Goodon in coverage. But I don't make myself out to be a scout.

Here's a more indepth and objective look at all aspects of his game. link

Little smaller, little faster, little better in pass coverage than Goodson, and a whole lot better at improving the play of those around him.

Im expecting better run fits from Walker's own play and the help he gives the front 7.

Maybe him being a "field general" and mentor type hints at us going LBer at #26.

Or, perhaps, they, in part, want to pick his brain for better ways to use the guys they have.

Maybe he's like a defensive version of Tom Brady:

Goodson brought energy, hopefully Walker can bring energy and better film study/habits. Wilson, Takitaki, and Phillips seem to work plenty hard. Can Walker help them work smarter?

Perhaps. At this point, nearly anything we think about could go in to the "perhaps" file.
