Just clicking,, I've been listening to Sports Talk radio a lot lately, There is great speculation that Richardson will be brought back for a team friendly deal... Any thoughts? I'm all about that. From what I'm gathering, the FO wants him back too...but on their terms. GM laid it out a few posts earlier and that dovetails with a few things I've read and certainly with what I want to see happen.

If he is willing to come back for whatever the team is comfortable giving him, then why not?

Side note: if we're getting worried about salary cap, I wouldn't mind us taking a look at Keenum's cap hit either this offseason or next, especially if Baker picks up this year where he left off last and continues the upward trend. Keenum won't be here forever, but now that we are good every win counts a bit more. He is the insurance. As your estate grows and your salary grows, your insurance should as well so your spouse isn't left in a bad position. Right? When he signed his contract, my understand was that the reason why it was so lucrative was two-fold. 1. Insurance, as you describe 2. Backup plan in case Baker never recovered from being Freddie'd #2 can be translated as, you're the backup, but you have to be good enough to step into the starter role if Baker does, in fact, suck. If we can remove that from our backup QBs list of job requirements, the salary that that job commands goes down drastically.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I can't believe they were unhappy with his performance. He was pretty solid.. So, yeah, if it's money and they work it out, I'd be happy

If he doesn't get an offer better than what the Browns are willing to offer (if they are willing to offer) then why not come back. He already knows the D in place.. It would make sense. But pride may get in the way.. We'll see I guess.. I hope he does come back

Yep, we are doing what a guy who was fired years ago said we should do. Maybe we're running Hue's offense too?

We are following a plan that he laid out while he was here...it is stil being carried-out now...with the tweaks that always become necessary as a plan develops...and by a protege of Sashi's at that.

Yeah, that's how it works. Two regimes later they are still working the plan of someone who did so poorly at his job he was fired.

As I said earlier, we probably left it open. For how long is the question. My guess would be through the draft at least, but we could take to offer at any time. I don't think Richardson can monkey around until training camp.

Yeah, that's how it works. Two regimes later they are still working the plan of someone who did so poorly at his job he was fired. What part of Sashi's plan are they NOT following? You keep throwing the same excuse at the debate...but you do not ever talk about the actual plan that they are STILL following. Sashi did his job as well as it could be done while he was here. Tear it down...acquire draft picks...acquire salary cap excesses. That is exactly what he did and even though he is gone, we are STILL reaping the benefits of his actions and his plan...after nearly two decades of ineptitude. Paul D is still here...Andrew Berry (a Sashi protege) is BACK from the planning-stage days and is now running the show. There is no doubt that this turnaround started with Sashi and his plan.

Tear it down and build it up?
What other choice does someone have with a team that's been shredded apart but to try and build it back? That's not a plan. That's leaving your replacement with only one option. Obviously a job nobody thought you could do because you were fired.
I've never seen a bunch of people try to make excuses for a guy who was so bad he was fired. It's hilarious!

If he had actually done well at drafting talent for a coach to work with I would probably agree with you.

If he had been allowed to select his coach in the 1st place instead of Jimmah hoisting Clueless Hubris Jackson on him, things would have gone much better - see Sean McDermott - exhibit A.

Sure. different team, different talent, different QB. Same results? That's quite a reach. A chef can't cook a gourmet meal with nothing but junk for ingredients.

How many GMs preceded Exec VP Sashi since the return who could not manage to do exactly what he did? What's hilarious is someone so unknowing about how a situation came-about that he projects his "understanding" in a signature. It is one of the funniest things on this site. The best part is that if you leave the signature active you keep creating crow while projecting your "understanding"...or you take it down as your own admission that we are benefiting NOW because of a plan developed and started by Sashi. It's glorious.

You might want to check who McDermott had for QB in his first year at Buffalo when they went 9-7 before you start throwing statements like this out there. Because it makes your boy Hue look pretty bad...

If one player made a team you might have a point. Hue finally was given the talent to win and couldn't do it. As such he deserved to be fired. Say what you will, anyone can tear a team down. Anyone can trade down in a draft and accumulate picks if you can find a trade partner. Anyone can unload all your high priced players to bulk up your available cap space.
Let's not pretend that's the same as identifying talent, finding quality FA's and managing the salary cap. If he had the ability to build a team he would still be here. The difference is at least I'm willing to admit Hue sucked.

Ray Farmer saved the Browns because he was so bad that we had to actually tear everything down to studs. Which I guess means Jimmy Haslam saved the Browns because he was dumb enough to hire Ray Farmer. Which I guess means Randy Lerner saved the Browns because he sold the team to Jimmy Haslam. Which I guess means Al Lerner saved the Browns because he shot Randy Lerner out of his testicles. Which I guess means. . .

This is one of those discussions where minds are set and no further position movement is likely from either side. It's been beaten to death several times over, with no position movement in years.
So, why bother?

So, why bother? I don't want to take away from your overarching point here, I'll just say that in the beginning I really wanted Hue (as I drank the Kool Aid) and I thought Sashi was just another "smart guy". As it turned out, Hue was an incompetent fake and Sashi was way more than just a "smart guy". Both things I learned from research/reading around threads like these and more.

Nothing new there When a guy is a 1st time GM, and the boss says "We're doing X, Y, and L ....... that's what you do. I am not defending Farmer. He definitely had his struggles. However, he also had a massively interfering owner, who (it sure sounded like) handed down a lot of edicts. If the boss tells you "X", you don't turn in a card with "J" on it.

Oh, so some people on the internet agree with you.
Once you rip a team down to a shell, what else can anyone do but try to build it back up? That's not a plan. That's the only choice left.
Poor Sashi got fired because he did such an amazing job. That's the story some of you are sticking with? lmao

Ray Farmer was the worst GM in NFL history. I don't believe this. look. The 2013 draft ended up the worst since the Browns have returned, Presided over by Lombardi, Banner, and Chudzinski. (local radio host, Bruce, I still remember summing it up, " They got 2 division one players in the first 5 rounds". Did they pass anyone up, in 2013, for umm Mingo, and Leon McFadden? Not sure but theres are mentions of some guy named "Kelce" and... The guy the Browns released in the title of this thread, Sheldon Richardson. Ohh, at least Farmer found Bitonio in two years 2014-2015. But, Lombardi, Banner, and Chud, and the 2013 Browns draft, surpassed the Eric Mangini, traded for some of the Jets backup players, year, as the worst draft since the return. edit: https://www.canalstreetchronicles.com/2010/7/7/1551478/the-new-orleans-saints-all-time If anyone thinks A Browns GM was the worst ever. Just have a laugh at this Saints groups' nostalgic What did they do with the punter?
