A week or so ago I said the door was open, and it still is, but it will close soon.
As for the comments about money....if money didn't talk he would already be signed.
Face it guys, money almost always talk to people. How much you make doesn't change that. Household expenses are in proportion to what you make. Very few people are weird like Warren Buffett.

Also there is the life expectancy of an NFL career. These guys can't extend their careers into their 60's. They have to make all they can while they can. There's a long life awaiting them after football.
"Do me a favor" isn't a term that often applies in contract negotiations.

Nobody expected Sheldon to resign or sign anywhere before the draft since nobody snapped him up within the first day or two after being released. I think he'll be back.

I do think there is a lull in anything other than draft as the draft gets near. You also have teams that may want to wait and see what falls to them in the draft. Every decent DT might have been there when they picked. Agents are then focusing on their new players who will be in the draft. Now that the draft is over, FA interest and signings should see a uptick.

As of 53 minutes ago, free agents can sign without impacting the compensatory pick formula.

When Sheldon was released I felt the door would remain open.
It is in Sheldon's court. Andrew has stayed in touch with his agent. I believe he likes playing in Cleveland.
It all comes down to accepting X amount.
I hope he returns. But the Browns are not going to remain idle. Berry is relentless in his pursuit to improve the team.

We signed Clowney who easily could play inside often. We signed a DT that spent 11 months in prison and hasn't played and NFL down after being drafted in 2017. We signed a DT who is a 32 yr old vet and started one game, although played in 16. We drafted DT Tommy Togiai (who I think might be a very valuable mid-round pick) in the 4th round. We signed UDFA Marvin Wilson. Call me crazy but I don't think this illustrates the FO/coaching staffs enthusiasm at bringing back Richardson. It seems like we are are bringing a lot of bodies in (outside of Clowney) to see what sticks alongside a rotation of Jackson, Billings, and Phillips. Call me crazy but I think the public quotes about bringing Richardson back are to placate, well, the public. I hope I'm wrong and we bring him back for $5M (a random figure :p) .

Hope for the best. Plan for the worse.
He has the offer. They have kept in touch with his agent.
He will see what teams have interest and what the offers are.
We will see

I think we want to bring him back. In the end it isn't up to the team, it is up to Richardson. I'd rather the team move forward like he isn't going to be here over sitting around waiting for something that might not happen.
If he decides to come back, it isn't going to be hard to clear a roster spot to make room on the 90.

In the end it isn't up to the team, it is up to Richardson. Of course it is up to the team. The team released him....the team can sign him at the amount they want. If there is even an amount.

We just disagree in that we have given him an amount and he didn't want that. If he does, we will take him back. Think about it. We went to Richardson and said we want to restructure your contract. I doubt he just said no at that point. Logic tells me he asked what the team was thinking, then he said no thanks, so he knows what we want. You don't think he even asked what amount the browns FO was thinking?

I'm sure that happens all the time w/ players. It's not like he is coming off an injury riddled season or had a poor year. You don't think he even asked what amount the browns FO was thinking? Where did I say anything against this?

Has any other team shown an interest in Richardson? Has he talked to anybody? I've been looking and have seen diddly. Lots of fan pages saying, "we gotta get this guy", but nothing of substance.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Where did I say anything against this? Because in the beginning I said it was up to Richardson if he returned, and you said it was up to the Browns. I disagreed because I said it wasn't logical that Richardson didn't get a contract offer, to which you now agree. That puts us back to the point where it is up to Richardson to take the offer.

It's obvious nobody has been brought in that can actually replace Richardson at his level of play. Nobody brought in could challenge him for a roster spot. These are obviously moves made much as you suggest, plan B moves in the event Richardson decides not to accept our offer. We can all come up with conspiracy theories or accuse our FO of lying.
But none of that accounts for the obvious.

I would guess Richardson has (or had) an offer from the Browns, but it has (or had) an expiration date, kind of like what reportedly happened with Mitchell Schwartz.

I agree there is an offer and no doubt it can be pulled at any time. The latest word out of Berea is we would still like him back so I would assume it hasn't been pulled as of now.

There's plenty of time. The FO has an offer out there and they're working on a Plan B. That's all we can ask at this time of year. My wild guess is that all things being more or less equal, he signs back with the Browns. I don't blame him for looking for a big pay day though. It's a tough sport and he will be a mess when he starts aging.

I agree. I don't fault Richardson in seeking the best deal for him and I don't blame the Browns for allocating cap dollars in the manner which in their opinion best helps the Browns.

I would be so thrilled to have him back! He was one of my favorites and followed his career from day one.
He does seem to be the kind of guy that would react via Pride and tell his agent NO BROWNS. But then slowly breakdown and hopefully some of our DLine (Cough: Garrett Cough: ) will get in touch with him and talk him into resigning with us!

jmho I don't think someone who just got a 50mil signing bonus and a 100mil guaranteed contract would be the best person to tell him to take the paycut and come back. Hope you're doing better, Tab.

He might have two options:
1. Cleveland 2. Wait for a team to have an injury or need at the DL.
The second is more risky obviously, but maybe he thinks it’s a better chance to make more money
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
