Guidelines that must be followed become mandates or laws.

Stopping at the red light isn't simply a guideline that should be followed.

I see. More people died from Covid than running red lights in both 2020 and so far in 2021. What mandates did you feel or know to be things that didn't help or based on falsehoods? Guidelines and mandates are two different things no doubt. The difference is if you can prevent a LOT more people from dying and base those mandates on facts, that really has nothing to do with what PPE was attempting to claim.

No, they called them "guidelines" because there are limitations to what they can force people to do at the federal level. They cannot do anything other than issue a guideline. e.g. the reason you didn't see either President mandate anything in this regard is that they CAN'T.

HOWEVER, that is a separate matter, entirely, and has nothing to do with what I stated above. I reiterate: when it is stated as immutable fact that "the science" should not be questioned and should be blindly trusted and obeyed - and you get called things like "science denier", et al, if you dare to question it, yes, that IS a lie. Just like vaccines of the past? Was it gaslighting when people did the exact same thing about inoculations for TB, the measles,small pox and a host of other diseases science has wiped out of our nation? So explaining that people ignoring and ridiculing such things weren't the sharpest crayons in the box was gaslighting?

You see, those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. We see it in our society as we speak. Denying the obvious evidence at the overall safety of this vaccine and how far it has gone to help wipe out Covid is pretty stupid. To claim that wearing a mask to avoid spreading the disease is simply common sense. Social distancing is also common sense in such a situation.

That's not gaslighting. Acting as though our government is some tyrant for trying to set safety standards to help cut down on American deaths is something that's common sense. Pointing out those that refuse or ridicule such safety measures isn't gaslighting.

I don't know about gaslighting, but it's interesting that you point out the govt setting standards re: COVID vaccines when they haven't given it full approval. The last thing they've done is issue a warning about a previously unknown potential side effect.

Maybe you should actually look at the percentage of those side effects, how much the death toll has lowered and consider the difference.

I'm never ceased to be amazed at how some people can't see that with the tens of millions of vaccines that have been given and how much better shape we are in now they continue to spew BS. The evidence is abundantly clear for anyone willing to open their eyes.

I'd never heard of thalidomide. Jeez, that's crazy. The article I read was that that tragedy was a catalyst (among other similar situations, I assume) for tightening regulations and dramatically raising the market-entry barriers for drugs.

Getting the vaccine is a decision everyone must make for themselves and their family. If you can't or won't differentiate between the risks of the vaccine to the population as a whole vs the individual, then I won't be able to have an intelligent conversation with you. On top of that, you beat people over the head with "this is what the experts say", and in the next breath you completely ignore that those same people are waiting on data to come in.

FDA just approved that (hopefully) groundbreaking Alzheimer's drug based on some SUPER sketchy trial data and despite the opposite recommendation of their advisory board, so they're clearly not handcuffed by procedure.

They've been asked to qualify exactly that - and skirted and avoided providing details. So don't expect an answer. Basically what you have is Trolls parroting right wing media propaganda that lacks facts and details, just emotion and the promotion of cancel culture.

Yet on the other hand, you seem to ignore the many diseases and viruses that have been wiped out by vaccines and where we would be today without them. Your thought process is nothing new. I'm certainly glad that so many diseases and viruses have been controlled by vaccines or what a far worse condition our world would be in. Yet here we sit with much of our population taking the side of the virus. It's sickening.

I'm not ignoring anything. Quit putting words in my mouth, even if you think it's an effective argument strategy. Weighing risk isn't ignoring.

I am also glad we have vaccines. That's why I got this one when it was available to me. But yes, according to you, this puts me "on the side of the virus".

I see you are reading things that aren't there again. You do comprehend that I was talking about those who refused to get the vaccine, right? You do understand I know you did get the vaccine, right?

It's sad that I have to bother explaining this to you, but I wasn't referring to you. I was referring to those refusing to get the vaccine. Not every comment is about you.

It seems as though you weighed the risks and it was plain to see the rewards far outweighed the risks. Anyone with an open mind would come to the same conclusion unless they were highly allergic to many things.

I hope you are now clear that since you did get the vaccine, that comment didn't include you. That's just a conclusion you came to based on something I never directed towards you as an individual.
