or the first time in Oregon’s history, a lawmaker has been ejected from office. GOP state Rep. Mike Nearman was expelled by a 59-1 vote after video emerged showing he helped a far-right militia breach the State Capitol in December.
The expulsion had overwhelming bipartisan support. Only Nearman voted against the measure.
On December 21, 2020, a crowd gathered outside the Oregon Capitol building to protest its closure. Among the crowd were Trump supporters waving flags, far-right agitators sporting body armor, at least one man with a riffle, and people chanting “Arrest Kate Brown,” the state’s Democrat governor. Nearman intentionally left a door open, allowing at least 50 people to go inside. A confrontation with law enforcement ensued. Demonstrators used pepper spray on police. Six officers were injured and the building suffered thousands of dollars worth of damage.
But it was Nearman’s actions on December 16th that created momentum for his ouster. On that day, according to livestreamed video, Nearman coached a right-wing group on how to breach the Capitol. He distributed his cell phone number and said, “if you say ‘I am at the west entrance’ during a session in text to that number there, that somebody might exit that door while you’re standing there.”
Nearman played coy, insisting that the number he distributed wasn’t really his. It was.
He faces criminal misconduct charges.
“His actions were blatant and deliberate, and he has shown no remorse for jeopardizing the safety of every person in the Capitol that day,” Speaker Tina Kotek, a Democrat, said in a statement after a remorseless Nearman was pushed out of office.
The New York Times compares the bipartisan condemnation of Nearman to the tepid response of lawmakers in D.C. to the January 6 riots, noting “while Republicans in Congress have resisted major actions in the Capitol siege — recently rejecting a plan for an independent commission — G.O.P. lawmakers in Oregon coalesced in recent days around the idea that Mr. Nearman needed to go. Each of his colleagues joined in a letter this week calling for his resignation.”
If this report is accurate, how is that even legal?
I don't think it is legal personally. The are predicting rather you 'might' commit a crime then riding you like a borrowed mule by harassing you all the time. As far as I can tell this kid has done ZERO wrong yet the police make him the first stop in all local crimes? You can't do that.
This is basically them saying, you fit the pattern so we know you will eventually commit a crime so we are going to "correct" you before you do...

I think we came much closer to having a crisis over the 2020 election than I had thought. I'd like to say that any of these despicable politicians that pressured or pedaled these lies about a stolen election, be it voter fraud or Italian Military satellites - should all be removed from office. But sadly there is a large % of the USA population that is so stupid and believe the lies fed by the Right Wing media - that there is no chance of that happening. It's really sad.

Florida Republican candidate caught on recording saying he’ll send ‘Russian and Ukrainian hit squad’ after rival
A secret recording of William Braddock, who is running for a congressional seat in Florida, has shocked many with a recording of him seemingly threatening to assassinate his political rival.
Speaking to an activist before he was a candidate, Braddock mentions assassinating his GOP competition, Anna Paulina Luna, multiple times.
“I really don’t want to have to end anybody’s life for the good of the people of the United States of America,” he said in audio obtained by Politico. “That will break my heart. But if it needs to be done, it needs to be done. Luna is a f**king speed bump in the road. She’s a dead squirrel you run over every day when you leave the neighborhood.”
At another point in the recording, Braddock claims he has “access” to a “hit squad” consisting of Russians and Ukrainians.
“Don’t get caught out in public supporting Luna … Luna’s gonna go down and I hope it’s by herself,” he said of Luna, who is running to fill a seat being vacated by Rep. Charlie Crist (D-Florida), who has announced his intention of running for governor.
At another point, Braddock claims Luna will “disappear” if polling shows her ahead of him.
“My polling people are going to charge me $20,000 to do a poll right before the primary. And if the poll says Luna’s gonna win, she’s gonna be gone. She’s gonna disappear,” he said, later suggesting a “few” must be “sacrificed” for the good of the nation.
The congressional hopeful even says he’s “not joking” about Luna disappearing and it’s “beyond” his control “at this point.”
Asked about these ‘assassins’ at the ready, Braddock claimed they are “Russian mafia” who will take out a target “up close and personal.”
Braddock has responded to the recording, saying it is “allegedly” him, but he has not yet heard it, and suggested it could have been edited.
“This is a dirty political tactic that has caused a lot of people a lot of stress and is completely unnecessary,” he said.
Erin Olszewski, who is behind the recording and has been threatened with a lawsuit by Braddock, pushed back and said she did not edit the clip and only recorded Braddock because she was concerned about his “unhinged” anger towards Luna, who has the backing of both Donald Trump and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida).
Gaetz tweeted on Thursday that Luna is an “honest person” and he appeared to confirm that he also believes there has been an assassination plot against her.
The release of the recording follows Luna being granted a temporary restraining order from Braddock, after she claimed he was plotting to kill her, along with two other Florida Republicans, Amanda Makki and Matt Tito, both of whom deny involvement in any illegal activity.
A spokesperson for Luna claimed there are “multiple law enforcement investigations” into her claims and “facts will be public at the appropriate time.”
“I received information yesterday (at midnight) regarding a plan (with a timeline) to murder me made by William Braddock in an effort to prevent me from winning the election for FL-13,” she wrote in her petition for the restraining order, which was granted on Friday.
I thought it was actually based on the Gettysburg Address getting into force, and effectively ending slavery. To sidestep that and say that it's about race is missing the point, at best.
With him, we at least know it's definitely not "at best."

Well I guess the Catholic Faith / Religion - despite hiding and enabling child molestation for generations - has decided it wants to have some principals? Unlike the Mormons and Christians who rallied around Trump with his multiple divorces and affairs and paying off porn stars.
Meh. I don't care. It doesn't actually matter to me what someone's religions and beliefs are, but rather how genuine it is. Trump's embracing of religion was 100% fake and for votes. Biden appears to have a much longer history of having a faith that he lives by, even if he has opinions that don't align 100%.
