Marjorie Taylor Greene gets longest Twitter suspension yet after falsely claiming COVID vaccines and masks don't work

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has once again been suspended from Twitter for sharing misinformation about COVID-19. Her account is on a seven-day lock, according to Twitter.

The suspension comes one day after Greene tweeted that the FDA "should not approve" COVID vaccines. She falsely claimed that "vaccines are failing and do not reduce the spread of the virus and neither do masks." The tweet is no longer able to be shared and has been attached with a label indicating that it is misleading.

A Twitter spokesperson told CBS News that Greene's tweet was flagged for misinformation and that her account will be in read-only mode for a week "due to repeated violations."

While it is true that vaccinated people can sometimes still contract and spread the virus, data shows that they are far less likely to experience severe illness, hospitalization or death. Unvaccinated people now make up the overwhelming majority of COVID hospitalizations and deaths in the U.S.

"We still see that these vaccines are doing a very good job preventing symptomatic disease, preventing hospitalization and death," Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former head of the FDA, told CBS News last week.

Greene wrote about the suspension on Facebook, saying, "I've been banned again."

In a statement posted on Telegram, the Georgia Republican said she has vaccinated family members who are sick with COVID and that she has "talked with numerous people who have scary side effects."

She writes: "But if I dare says the truth, Twitter suspends me because the truth is so offensive to the fragile hypocrites all over Twitter. ... They will allow porn on Twitter. They will allow posts about parents transitioning their children and changing their gender on Twitter. But Twitter won't allow any real discussion of the truth from an elected Congressman."

This is the second time Greene has been suspended from Twitter in less than a month for spreading misinformation about COVID-19. On July 19, the platform suspended Greene for 12 hours from being able to use her account after she falsely claimed that the virus is not dangerous for those who are not obese or over the age of 65.

She was also suspended earlier this year for spreading election conspiracy theories.

According to the company's policy, Twitter users who rack up five "strikes" for posting COVID-19 misinformation can be permanently suspended.

It is here to stay until a better technology than current vaccines come along and I don't really think there is anything that anyone could have done to stop the spread and proliferation once it was on multiple continents.

We are already past 70% seroprevalence (we were at 40% in March before most got second dose), even with 100%, I think it is unlikely to eradicate the virus.

Even if we could eradicate respiratory pathogens that are this infectious, I am not 100% in humans best interest to do so. 2000 years ago, when societies were less mobile and connected, new pathogens would come into areas where peoples immune systems were not as developed and populations would get decimated. The average human is now exposed to more pathogens than in any time in history and we are ultimately healthier because of it.

It'll be interesting to see how things go at Wright-Patt. Right now, we are teleworking for the most part. We also have an order in for everyone to wear masks if they do go on site.

The next phase will be that everyone will either have to be vaccinated or submit to daily testing. A lot of people were getting by before by just pretending they were vaccinated, because no proof was required. Now they'll have to show proof. Should be interesting to see who that affects, and what fallout there will be, given that 27,000+ work on the base.

I hope you keep us all informed to the situation as it unfolds. I lived very close to Wright Pat the vast majority of my life. Knew many people who worked there and for government contractors as well. Many were also former Air force.

YouTube suspends Rand Paul for seven days

(CNN Business)Sen. Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, has been suspended from YouTube for seven days over a video claiming that masks are ineffective in fighting Covid-19, according to a YouTube spokesperson.

"This resulted in a first strike on the channel, which means it can't upload content for a week, per our longstanding three strikes policy," the spokesperson said. "We apply our policies consistently across the platform, regardless of speaker or political views, and we make exceptions for videos that have additional context such as countervailing views from local health authorities."

Paul criticized the decision by YouTube in a tweet on Tuesday.

"Leftwing cretins at YouTube banning me for 7 days for a video that quotes 2 peer reviewed articles saying cloth masks don't work," he wrote, calling the suspension a "badge of honor."

Paul's tweet included a link to watch the video on an alternate platform.

YouTube indicated that examples of the offending content in the video included the line: "Most of the masks you get over the counter don't work. They don't prevent infection."

It also included the quote: "Trying to shape human behavior isn't the same as following the actual science which tells us that cloth masks don't work."

The suspension comes on the same day that Twitter banned Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's account for one week following another violation of the platform's rules.

Greene tweeted on Monday that the Food and Drug Administration "should not approve the covid vaccines." She also claimed the vaccines were "failing" and that they were ineffective at reducing the virus's spread.

In response, Twitter (TWTR) labeled the tweet as misleading and prevented Greene from tweeting for one week.

That is SO Rand Paul. When everyone is getting suspended from Twitter, he goes and gets suspended from youtube.

meh... that's just basic politician shenanigans. Rand can do much weirder than that.

$1,000 - $15,000 worth of Gilead stock. I really don't care much about that.

What I DO very much care about - though it's all been forgotten - is the $$ Millions that were invested into Zoom and other stocks that benefitted by the pandemic - by politicians who were briefed about the pandemic, bought stock but publicly downplayed the pandemic's impact.... that was something that should have cost people their job/positions, but like so much stuff it all just got lost in the shuffle of Trump chaos.

This happened the next county over from mine. About 30 minutes from where I live. This is how they deal with democracy. The school board approved a mask mandate and here is how they were treating the people who spoke in favor of masks during the school board meeting.

Those are fair points by you and oober. I don't know why I thought it was $150,000.

I have to admit I look at him with extra scrutiny after he - a trained physician - has said some of the things he's said during the pandemic. Everything he has said has been so widely refuted by not just Fauci, but by nearly every study and scholarly article that has been published.

I think what irks me the most is I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt when his career began. I thought his dad was extreme in his views, but like Sanders and AOC, I thought that he was at least genuine in his beliefs that was he was doing was right.

The apple feel far from the tree in that aspect.

This is insane.

I can understand how people get mad at national politics -- Republican or Democrat or whatever....

I just can't imagine getting that angry at a freaking School Board Member. They get paid a pittance -- if anything. They generally want to make decisions to make schools better (or maybe more cost efficient, at worst).

How the hell do you justify threatening a member of your own local community, because they tell a kid they have to wear a mask?

You want to hear Mr. Smedium-shirt's justification for standing around waiting for school admins so he can point in their face and yell the same 5 words as long as his voice holds out?

The first thing that came to my mind when these two idiots said, "We know who you are!", was to respond to them by saying, "Well now I know who you are so I will be prepared and waiting for you". I'm not the typical peace, love, dope guy most people think of when they label anyone who thinks differently than they do a liberal.

The problem is those people probably have to act with some base level of professionalism (they're at work) while the protestors don't. Also, they probably just wanted to leave, and engaging most definitely wouldn't have helped that (or anything).

That's certainly not my philosophy. My philosophy is no matter who you are, trying to threaten me will come with resistance. It will also come with a warning that if you try to carry out that threat, do so at the risk of your own safety.

Paul stated that cloth masks (not N95 masks) are mostly inneffective. That is debatable depending on your definition of "effective". It certainly is not categorically false. N95 masks are far superior.

People get angrier about their kids than they do politics.

My child, loved school, but last year would come home crying on a regular basis from the misery that these rules created. Now, she has done the right thing and been vaccinated, but still is being made to wear a mask.

The thing is, many of these school board members and people making the biggest deal about mandating masks are going to go out to restaurants and sporting events without masks. I have seen it in my own community. So when you see these people acting hypocritical, while mandating that vaccinated children that have no power and no voice, wear masks, not socialize with freinds, limit bathroom use, not play with classroom toys, not get books from the library... it makes you angry

So the guy may look unhinged, but we don't know what they are going through.

Haha, okay, you can have your "gotcha" moment by using my absolutism against me, which is something I try to avoid most times. I've let his behavior infuriate me, and that is not good.

By the way, Paul is not an expert. He's a politician. Yes, he's a physician...an ophthalmologist. Not exactly out there running studies.

His arguments on herd immunity

Nobody made the claim that N95 masks are less superior. You are twisting my mistake in absolutism into diverting this into a tangential argument.
