What isn't well thought out is the people who will try to use this because they think it's clever.

This is worse than the Guardians.

If they were going for a military theme, Commandos would have been better, IMO. I also think Redhawks would have been better.

IMO. Commanders fails as a team name. in all facets of nomenclature synesethesia, initials, (same initials as water closet)
roll off the tongue factor, wittiness, Syllable je ne sais quoi, everything.
They'd have been better off poaching any of the other 31 team nicknames already in existence, (except steelers, we can't have another steelers) but Rams, Ravens, even bengals, (well not bengals) ... many of them would have been better than commanders.

I regretfully suspect that it had to be a name that word for word would translate into foreign languages, specifically Chinese.

What would you have thought of the red coats. as in the Brittish in 1776. How about, the Horse riders.

Team names in general have always been innocuous. Professional sports team names have always been anything but edgy.

I understanding not liking tradition changed, however.

The minor league hockey team in Cleveland had something cool going. The Monsters used to be officially called 'The Lake Erie Monsters'. Then they changed it to 'Cleveland Monsters'... because I guess we're not allowed to have cool things.

That's a minor league team name... or, the name of a basement XFL team.

Can we trade them to the CFL for the Argonauts?

I'm so thankful that my dad was a Yankees fan and brought me up as one. -The guy loved the Browns and would take us to Indians games when we were kids, but he loved the Yankees. - Even flew to NYC for the '78 World Series against the Dodgers.

I always went along with the crowd and rooted for the Indians. But I will never root or spend a dime on the Cleveland baseball franchise ever again. I was also happy to see several of my friends cancel their season tickets out of spite because of the stupid name change.

In some circles that's known as a tantrum overload.

I have no problem admitting that I chuckled the first time I saw it. In their pursuit of the most un-offending and sterile name, they made an easy target of ridicule. The street vendor Tshirts should provide some humor.

I was thinking about trademarking "G-Men" for the Cleveland baseball team, but its owned by the NY Giants.

I think it's a huge stretch.
