This is PFF's take on the top 5 WR candidates. One of the WR not on this list is who Dane Brugler has us taking in his first mock - Treylon Burks.

13. Cleveland Browns — Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas
The Browns passing offense desperately needs another playmaker and Burks has the ability to create big plays. He has an outstanding blend of size (6-3, 228) and speed (4.45) with the tracking skills and catch radius to be a quarterback’s best friend. Burks, who led the SEC with 22 plays of 20-plus yards in 2021, reminds me of a linebacker-sized Deebo Samuel.

He's the receiver I would take if I took a receiver in round 1..

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

A football season is a war of attrition. Very few teams can finish the season with all their prize starters. Teams combat that by trading for replacements. Teams can get lucky and not lose many.

In theory, having the best 2nd and 3rd options trumps all others' secondary options. Having sufficient options allow you sustainability. You need the right players to execute your designed schemes. Otherwise, you're downsizing your playbook to fit the talent.

Bugs,

I agree with you about your meaning of depth. But as with our team, I don't agree with depth was a problem this past season. I believe we just had a stupid amount of injuries this year. The response would be: no crap, that's the point of depth.....but look at the preseason depth chart below

Backups:

QB - Keenum
RB - Hunt / Johnson
WR - Hodge (released) Higgans, Schwartz * this was a weak area*
TE - Njoku, Bryant, Carlson
OL - Hubbard, Harris, Hance, Dunn

DE - Tak, Gustin, Weaver was a hopeful
DT - We hoped Billings would be worth a damn....backups- Day, Square...hoping Elliott and someone else would emerge
LBs - Smith, Phillips, JOK/Wilson
CB - as 4th CB; Greedy, with hope of AJ Green or Stewart
S - Delpit, Redwine

On paper, that's not a bad backup group (meanwhile someone in the back yells: YES, but paper doesn't mean crap that's why we play the games!). I get it. But look at those back ups, we lost a main cog (or more) from each group.

We lose Chubb, well ok, we have Hunt....yes, but Hunt is now out....ok...Johnson, by now we are plucking Kelly off the PS.
Or Offensive line. Willis hurts his ankle first game and we bring in Hubbard our solid swing tackle...btw, he's now out for the year. Then Conklin goes out.

We know what happened with the receivers.

Injuries are a part of the game. You are bound to lose an important piece of the team. So like you said, depth is a major piece in success. We just had an absurd amount of injuries this year in key positions.....or at key times (i.e. both OTs going being out at the same time).

Thats my view/opinion

We're as close as anyone to a SB appearance.
Last season, we were one bad call from being in the AFC Championship, and we definitely could have won that. This year, we were too broken down to be effective.

The only question is How much of this team can we keep together for next year?

Browns is the Browns

Defense win Championships so we got to build that DL to one of greatness. We got the DBs we have JOK at LB with others...DL has to be built up. Garrett is a stud, Richardson and Larry O being let go was a big time mistake if you ask me. We got to get 3 more studs at least for the DL...FA and draft.

jmho once we have that then we can win championships!!!
Do you its a scheme issue thats holding the Browns back

Statistically we were the 5th ranked D in the NFL??? So I don't think our coaching scheme is too far off - its all about talent, we got to get Clowney back as I thought that worked out real well and we can even improve on it. Takk was a good rotation guy I don't know how his knee will be after rehab. We need more and we need DTs McDowell isnt that bad and he's young I hope he can maintain a straight head but we need more - possibly from the draft One of the Georgia kids would be nice. I do like Davis, also a kid from Texas A&M, LEAL he is suppose to be a stud. but we need 3 DEs and 3 DTs that could all be studs the key is the DL in the 4 man line Defenses got to strive to have the best talent. Hopefully we can sign Richardson again.

But I think the best defense is the way to go. Offense we got the OL and great running game to go with the D. Playaction and a stud maybe two like KC has Hill and Kelce. I wouldn't mind getting Gronk he's a great blocker and dependable route runner with hands but his body is getting old and beat up he might retire...got to look at the draft - mid round I like the kid from Iowa State Kolar early in the draft we got Wydemyer from Texas A&M

We are not that far away...Baker will bounce back as long as he stays healthy and we lead the NFL in play action passes. We got to RUN MORE I cant believe we didn't run 30+ times a game with our stud RBs and then boom with play action and we also had a great screen passing game with our OL!

JMHO

Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off!

we are a consistent QB away. thats literally all it is. watching all the playoff games this season, all we need is baker or whoever to just be consistent. we have the run game and defense already.

consistent QB play and maybe a big body WR and we're good.

#1..If the franchise operates as they did this past season...the answer is NEVER..!

.....let me qualify my NEVER answer...If those in charge..Stefanski and the analytics boys and ownership..if they fail to learn from the mistakes they made last season, our Browns, the players, are doomed !
.......if those running this franchise continue to believe it's a good idea to play an injured #1 QB while a healthy backup QB sits on the bench..the players will never be able to overcome that mistake...a mistake created by the Browns franchise...Ownership, analytics, management and coaching..aka OAMC.

Just what the hell was GM Berry trying to prove by insisting or agreeing with the decision to continue playing an injured Mayfield, I'll never know.

To fix this problem, the coaching staff, along with GM Berry need to find a backup QB that they feel is good enough to take over and lead the team to enough wins to make the playoffs even if the #1 QB is injured. IMO, last season the Browns.. "already had the right backup QB in position".. to step in and lead the team to enough wins to make the playoffs and give the team a chance to compete in the playoff hunt.

I have no idea what ownership, analytics, management and the coaching staff, WHERE TRYING TO PROVE by playing an INJURED #1 QB..WHILE THEIR HEALTHY #2 QB SAT ON THE BENCH...??

Whomever is responsible for playing an injured Mayfield over a healthy Keenum should be held responsible for their decision.

IMO, that decision cost the team a chance to make the playoffs!

Ownership, analytics, management and coaching must address this issue and make sure they groom the Browns backup QB well enough to take over if the #1 QB is injured.

Watching the Super Bowl happenings, video clips and interviews this week...I can't stop thinking with my heart that the Browns should be in their, in Super Bowl...not the Bengals ! I base my viewpoint on the Browns team talent..the Browns had/have the talent to go deep into the playoffs and they may have made it to the Super Bowl had the "Browns decision makers" not made some bonehead decisions that cost the players that chance.

HOW CLOSE ARE THE BROWNS TO A SB APPEARANCE?...it is an "UNKNOWN" ...and I say that because I'm not sure the Browns 'O'wnership, 'A'nalytics, 'M'anagement and 'C'oaching (to be known as ".. OAMC ..". I use the acronym OAMC because the Browns list their current staff (chain of command) in that order...Owner, Analytics, Management, Coaching.

NOW, the #2 issue that OAMC needs to address and correct..

The #1 reason I already posted and referenced above...not playing a healthy Keenum when Baker was hurt.

The #2 reason...OAMC not doing their job in the offseason. Not taking care of their business knowing they might very well be creating a potential "cancer" in the locker room by not addressing the wishes of OBJ. During the off season between 2020 and 2021 the OMAC knew that OBJ wanted to be traded. Beckham was serious about wanting out of Cleveland and for some reason, the Browns OAMC did not get the job done.

Maybe it was because of their inexperience dealing with a veteran player like Beckham who was making a "serious request" or maybe OAMC simply not taking his request seriously and simply brushed it aside. But there was already a book on Beckham concerning his behavior when he isn't happy about "his situation". All the Browns had to do was do a search on OBJ-CANCER-N.Y. GIANTS...and pick a link and read. OBJ had a history concerning his conduct in New York and Berry and Stefanski should have realized how serious OBJ's situation could be if Ownership and Analytics didn't help to resolve the issue.

The OBJ problem did affect the rest of the team and long before OBJs daddy and Lebron got involved. Had the Browns taken care of the OBJ Problem when they first were aware of it, during the off season, the Browns locker room environment might have been better.

Everyone involved, the Owner, Analytics, Management and Coaches need to be on the same page and do their best to identify potential problems before they blow up into 'major problems'. Addressing such a problem starts with the coaches and from their it goes to the GM then up to Analytics and Ownership...ALL FAILED and hopefully they learned something about their responsibilities.

As much as you like to avoid the subject, with a healthy QB this season we may have been there.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
