If I recall the following QBs were in Superbowl since 2010 Nick Foles, Colin Kaepernick, Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Jared Golf, and Jimmy Garoppolo all are not considered elite QBs. I almost want to add Eli Manning and Russell Wilson to the list. Both are pretty good QBs but to rank as elite, in my opinion, debatable.
You diss Andy Dalton and Ryan Tannehill, but how does their record stand up to Drew Brees as a playoff contender?
Actually, in my opinion, Cincy is very much built like the Colts during Peyton's years in Indianapolis. They are only as good as Burrow takes them. If he has a bad game, it's a tick in the loss column. Injured and their season is over most likely .500 or worst.
Do you mean Cincy retaining their core offense talents like when Chad Johnson, Terrell Ownes, TJ Houshmandzadeh, Chris Henry, Mohamed Sanu, and AJ Green? To me, it seems like they keep a strong tandem for like a year or two and then release one. I do give Cincy a lot of credit for finding their next superstar receiver. For that matter, they do seem to find pretty good QBs too.
Oh, and who beat the Bengals twice? What is Burrow's record against the Browns? Oh, and who beat the Bengals twice? What is Burrow's record against the Browns? I.think those Bengals WR tandems had more than a couple years runs together Was Owens at the end of his career much like Ocho when the Bengals let them walk? I thought Chris Henry died too? I.believe any team that loses their franchise QB for any amount of time would Probally endure more losses than wins. If Herbert was lost to injury the Chargers They would lose more than win. Thats the thing about Baker. If he is lost to a injury , is there really a dropoff at this point? It's not like the Browns offense runs through him.

If you build a team correctly, you will get something like Philly had when Wentz went down and Foles took the team to the Superbowl. Yes, it's rare. BUT, I think it should be the goal.
I think the magic bean of winning consistently for many years in the NFL is controlling salary. One key ingredient is drafting well. Second, having a well-defined offensive and defensive scheme. This means no matter who the HC, OC, DC, or ST you are moving the team in one direction. Lastly, hire coaches who do well developing.
As for QBs, look no further than the AFCN. Pittsburgh and Baltimore win no matter who is the QB. They both had great, good, and average QBs. Yet, they consistently win. They draft QBs other teams questioned and evolve them into a contender. One additional thing they do well is they don't chase trends. No matter what they have a strong run game and strong defense. Cincinnati has a similar agenda but they believe in a passing offense and an above-average defense.
You can look at New England. Yes, Tom Brady was the exception. Even when Tom was there they stayed consistent having a balance of talent on both sides of the ball. They added Mac Jones who many analysts thought lacked certain skills. Let us see what Belichick does to replace McDaniels.
I think Cleveland has lacked this ideology since Paul Brown left. The Browns have never been consistent as a franchise. They flip between being a running team to a passing team. High-powered offense over the defense and visa versa. Cleveland has always chased the Holy Grail.
For the first time in a long long time, Cleveland has actually ventured out to do something original with the hiring of Paul DePodesta. They are setting parameters that are not the normal trend. So far, we are seeing results in the draft. Seeing players like JOK and Delpit fall to them in the second round. This means they are getting high-quality talent other teams don't see.
Let's see what Cleveland does with Baker and their receiver group. It's the last piece of the puzzle they haven't solved fully.

I would not be surprised if the Browns Missed the playoffs, fired Stefanski and hired Sean Payton as HC. Stefanski's offense is limited as far putting points on the scoreboard. Stefanski's whole plan is to win games 20-17 , 17 -13, or 23 10. What the Browns lack is that ability to be able to win in any of the 3-phases Of the game when the moment calls for it.

That is the point I was making about the floor of the quarterback position.
Wentz went down. Foles went on and won.
Baker is more than capable if he plays well. The problem there is inconsistency.
Case can backup for a few games. IMO the Browns need more.
I don't believe in kicking the qb decision down the road.
If you have quarterback capital like the Pats did with Garoppolo. You can trade them.
If Berry was 100% sure on Baker. He would have signed him to an extension.
In the end it comes to BPA with the pick. If that is Willis then take him.
I doubt that Berry would trade up. Hard to say. Berry I am sure he will dig deep on all the prospects.
I will trust his decision be it receiver, DE, or quarterback. This is why GM's make that money.

Before this week Malik Willis was mocked from 11th to in the second round.
Now he may go second to Detroit. I believe there will be a number of teams who will be looking hard.
Houston, Falcons, Texans, Washington, Denver, Steelers, as well as Detroit.
I highly doubt the Browns will trade up. I highly doubt Willis will be there at 13.
So, BPA at DE or receiver would be my guess.

I like Malik Willis a lot but not to replace Baker...to replace Keenum as our backup.
Unfortunately he is over priced for a 1st round pick...
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

Pittsburgh and Baltimore win no matter who is the QB. Pittsburgh consistently won when Bradshaw and Ben were the qb's. I don't remember them winning very consistently when they trotted out Bubby Brister, Mark Malone, Kordell Stewart and Tommy Maddox in between the HOFer's.

This made me curious, so I actually looked back at the record. I overlooked Neil O'donnell, who strung together 4 winning seasons, 3 of double digits. I honestly don't remember him being that good, just him throwing that INT in the Superbowl. Looks like there were 7 losing seasons in the 20 between Bradshaw and Ben.

So, BPA at DE or receiver would be my guess. Well you can bank on the top 4 or 5 QB's all rising and being selected much higher than where they were forecast before the college season ended. Pretty sure the year Goff and Wentz came out Goff and Wentz were initially considered *possible* mid 1st round picks at the end of the college season and then went #1 and #2? Paxton Lynch was a 2nd or 3rd round forecast and went last in the 1st too.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

So many teams are looking for quarterbacks. Teams will reach for them.
I have looked at the top guys. Malik Willis is worth a gamble for teams because he has a big upside.
The others look ordinary to me. Not good not bad. Pickett has the most experience but has nothing that stands out.
His experience and results will help him. But he has no outstanding parts to his game. That doesn't mean he can not be a decent qb.
I just don't see it for the Browns.
If Willis was there at 13. He would be considered but that will likely not happen.

It's especially limited to putting points on the board when Baker has a torn labrum.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Trade up in the draft if you believe there is a FQB there to be had at a cost that is acceptable. Or roll with Baker - back him 100% to thrive or whither on the vine. Don't introduce a so-so back up that just brings controversy if Baker has a slow skid.

Case is the contingency plan.
bringing in Wentz without trading Baker would be an unnecessary QB controversy all offseason, and lead to spectacular disaster. if the QB we bring in isn't better than Baker, then there's no point making lateral moves. it's self-inflicted drama. if Baker is gonna start next season, then let it be Baker or bust. but if we trade for a QB that can start week 1, it better be for someone who's a clear upgrade, which means we also traded Baker away.
the reality of Wentz and Baker being on same team would tell me that the season will end with a losing record a complete overhaul of the roster, sadness and depression inflicted once again on the fanbase.
which is something the browns are most certainly capable of, so they'll probably do exactly that.

If Wentz was someone that you could make a legit claim could be 'the guy', then fine. I don't see how anyone could craft that argument, though.

Wentz is much better than Keenum. Wentz makes some boneheaded plays but also makes plays few QBs in the league can make. Keenum has a noodle arm and poor decision making with no mobility.

Are we looking for our backup to be a backup, or to push to be QB1 (essentially creating a lukewarm competition)?
If we're looking for a backup, then it should be a guy that "won't lose you games". That's been Keenum so far... and that's NOT Wentz.
If we're looking for the latter, then I'll say you can do better than Wentz, and I'll leave it at that.

not saying Keenum is better than Wentz. Saying Wentz is average at best.
Hell - the Colts just traded for the guy and now 1 year later are thinking of cutting him. Yeah - that's who the Browns need.

Yeah - that's who the Browns need. As a backup and potential starter because Baker stinks up? I’ll take him over Keenum every time. Wentz raises the ceiling of the team.

He also lowers the floor, though. Look at what happened down the stretch this year. And if Baker sucks again, I wouldn't want to turn to a guy with an injury history like Wentz. If you're looking for that guy (make the decision mid-season that Baker's not the guy and have someone to plug in), then I think there are better options out there (Garrapolo, for example).

In sitting and watching that Superb Owl here and there last night, I did not see a single throw Baker can't or won't make - and hasn't made a dozen times. I didn't see a single bit of pocket awareness or "escape-ability" that he doesn't possess. On multiple occasions last night, I watched whichever QB it was on-screen at the time and imagined it was Baker with the goal of "could he do that?". Not once was it even questionable. We already have a QB that can do anything that either of the two Super Bowl QBs put on display..... if that isn't good enough to win us a Super Bowl (and it was good enough for one of them to win one), then what is it we're actually looking for??
Each one of them benefitted massively from their receiving targets. Several catches were simply the QB throwing the ball out there willy-nilly and the WR making a spectacular play (and at least one INT by Stafford was that, too).
p.s. How much trash is Burrow for not leading that 4th Qtr comeback drive and flubbing that 4th down pass? The Bengals should probably cut him, eh? Dude will never amount to anything...

I don't think it has ever been a question of what Baker can do.
He showed pretty early on that there is no throw he can not make. I have seen Baker make many elite throws.
It is however a matter of consistency. We all have seen good Baker and bad Baker.
Am I guilty of trashing Baker? If anything I have been a consistent supporter.
At the same time there is some doubt. I would be thrilled and have said so numerous times. Nothing would make me happier than having Baker play great and stick it to his critics. I have gone after Riz many times in his never ending attacks on Baker.
In addition if you read the draft thread. I have been all about upgrading the receiver room both in free agency and the draft.
So I am not sure if you are going after me?
