Maybe it's just me being pissed at the utter ineptitude of the whole damn situation. Baker is far better than anything left on the QB market, and unless he plays this year we are just screwed. I never expected him back after this year because the browns botched this from day one with him. But I didn't expect the sheer stupidity they displayed here. And I don't think they said anything to Baker's camp about Watson. What was said at the combine (supposedly) was just standard blah they say every year… due diligence. Yet, why would Baker feel so dissed? And the mort report took it to the next level, and the Browns said nada about it.
I think Baker was blindsided, then offended by the 'adult thing. I would have been offended if they said some crap like that about me. The browns need to fire whoever it was very publically IMO.

Mayfield’s camp was also aware that short list could eventually include Watson, even with 22 civil cases pending alleging inappropriate behavior and sexual assault during massage sessions. https://t.co/WvWwuF6qJl

Yet his letter to the fans plainly showed that he was open to staying, before he was called a child. And I never expected you to be the one carrying Jimmy Haslams water. Haslam? He’s the worst. Andrew Berry? I’ll defend him all day everyday. We agree on Berry being a good GM. However, the handling of this is inexcusable. There is no win here, unless they force Baker to play against his will... that's the only good out for the browns that I can see. Geriatric Matt Ryan isn't an answer I want to entertain. Neither is Mariota, nor Jimmy G. The whole situation, which was stable, is now hot garbage looking for a place to rot.

Or is he just like everyone else and speculating? That article show a lot of bias toward the “Browns done the right thing”, if you ask me. He was probably in the get DW at all costs camp with you.

I agree OCD. I would have been offended too. I really believe our FO wants to bring a championship here as much as we the fans do. Whatever we think of Jimmy Haslam it seems to me he wants to win or he wouldn't have been involved in what transpired. They're saying Baker was told so if that's true he shouldn't be upset about it.

At that time it should have been made clear the Browns plans. That he was their starter, however, they would look around and if they had a shot at guy like Wilson or Watson they would look into it.
Get out in front and communicate. Tell him that those deals were not likely and they expected him to be the starter and play well. According to the FO, this did happen. And according to this FO he would be our starting QB next year. I guess we can pick and choose what we believe coming from them and what we don't......

Except for the adult crap, the rest could have been smoothed over as miscommunication. That comment in the mort report was the nail in the coffin if you ask me. I was so mad when I saw that, that my adrenaline felt like I was about to enter the ring. Incredibly unprofessional.

So then did the agent relay to Mayfield, and in what way? We all know how third party communication works. also from that article "After Cleveland traded for Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper on March 12, Mayfield reached out to Cooper, hoping to get him and Cleveland’s other pass-catchers in Mayfield’s hometown of Austin, Texas, for an offseason workout, similar to ones he’d held in the past." sounds like someone who just 5 days ago was fully expecting and getting ready to play this year, and all was good.

The only thing that should have been handled different was the “adult” comment. "No uncoordinated leaks." 1) It was intentional to move the relationship past the point of no return. or 2) Jimmy couldn't help himself.

It's terrible that Baker is so immature and they wanted an adult at QB that they decided to give away the future for a QB that threw a tantrum because he couldn't hand pick his own HC and demanded a trade himself. That sure would have addressed that problem.

The Browns reportedly did communicate with Baker. Yet the team also said he would be our starting QB next year. I guess we should pick and choose what we believe from them according to our feelings on any given topic. Funny how some of the very same people who claimed we shouldn't believe anything they say in public now suddenly believe we should listen to what they say in public. What we do know is if they had their way, Baker would not have been our starting QB going forward. That seems like a pretty good barometer.

The Browns say thay want a Qb that is an "adult" then go out to try to get Watson. Guess I have a different idea of what being an adult means
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

(1) FO approached his agents at the combine (2) FO let them know they would be pursuing QB as a possible upgrade (3) When that failed, Haslem offered to meet w. Baker at his home (4) Baker writes something on social alluding to a divorce (5) Baker refused to meet with ownership (6) Baker demands trade
Who looks like they are trying to burn bridges? So now suddenly we're supposed to believe public statements coming from the FO? But I thought you said.....

At this point, I'm thinking about boxing up my jerseys and mailing them to the Cleveland Browns organization with explicit instruction to stick them up their collective asses. A few hundred packages like that might open their eyes.

Coz that's who we are getting in his place.

You are clueless. It is his job to play his best as long as he plays anywhere. How about he plays his best for himself? Ever think of that?
Probably not. Yet the very QB they were going to replace Baker with did the exact same thing. Only he threw a tantrum because he didn't get to help hand pick his HC. Ever think of that? Probably not. Deshaun Watson officially requests trade from Texans hours after team names head coach It appears the Deshaun Watson era is over with the Houston Texans. The relationship has taken center stage this offseason and is fueled by Watson's angst toward owner Cal McNair and Jack Easterby, the tumult reaching fever pitch with the team reneged on promises to include him in helping to identify the team's next head coach -- with further gasoline having been poured on the fire by the hiring of Nick Caserio as general manager. What had not occurred yet, however, was a formal request (read: demand) by Watson to be traded, but the Texans have now reportedly received just that. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...exans-hours-after-team-names-head-coach/

Any Browns players come out and support Baker through all of this yet? Any players come out and support the FO yet?

Yes saying you don't know where you'll be taking your next snap in the NFL while your team is actively trying to replace you is such an awful thing.

I expect teams to wait for Baker to be cut. Why trade for a guy who you know is not going to be on the team. If the "anyone but Baker" crowd are so smart - it stands to reason no other team is going to give up draft capital for a guy most especially if he's guaranteed to be cut if no trade materializes. . . .

I get that ... but according to the "Anyone But Baker" crowd ... Baker sucks and is a bad QB. So why would a team want to avoid the FA lottery for a backup QB? .... That's not my take, that must be the take of the "Anyone but Baker crowd" who now are trying to make a claim that we'll get draft collateral for Baker so giving up 3 first rounder is no big deal. smh.
Colts or Seattle would be the best situation for Baker to land in. Be great to see him in Indy and play Cleveland in the playoffs. That'd be worth paying the price of admission for.

The only thing that should have been handled different was the “adult” comment. 100% agree... I personally think they handled everything else this offseason with baker about the best they could.... who ever said the adult comment should at the very least be written up at work... the only other thing I wish they would have done was shut him down earlier in the year when it was evident his shoulder was significantly impacting his play...

Who looks like they are trying to burn bridges? So now suddenly we're supposed to believe public statements coming from the FO? But I thought you said..... Um....those aren't public statements coming from the FO. In fact we haven't heard anything from the FO publicly for awhile now. But we all get it. You pranced around here telling people how wrong they were for questioning a press conference and responses that are routinely meaningless each year and you look foolish again. It's like this is your first year following the NFL. Stay salty. With actual evidence as to a rational reason why they are telling the truth, yes. 2020 Baker is all you need to see to believe them. Trying to use an injured 2021 season not to believe them is fools gold. https://www.dawgtalkers.net/ubbthre...e-off-season-player-movement#Post1928901
