Apparently, you being this obtuse and posting ridiculous replies when you've obviously lost the discussion on the merits of your take is why the other side on the board keeps calling you 'last word larry'. This must be mind-numbing for you to be forced to face the truth about how centrists hurt the left, that progressives are the majority on the left, and that your centrist ilk is fading from existence. And we both know you ranted about socialism when it looked like Bernie would get the nod, I'd call it crying for lack of a more pathetic term. And sure we are on the same side and agree on about 99% of things, but your fictional belief in the center and moderates, especially today, is completely out of touch with reality. Hell bro, if GOPers hadn't gone off the deep end with Trump, you would still be considering voting R over D every election, especially when the candidate even leans slightly progressive. And that fact alone proves that moderate centrist dems like you are bad for the party, you would vote red over one of your own, but always expect those to the left to support and kneel to your ilk. You can't make this crap up it's so blatantly nuts.

You warped sense of reality is beyond realistic comprehension by normal thinking people. I vote for what I see as the best candidate. You vote to promote an extremist movement.

I do too, but that could lead to another Trump admin or worse. DeSantis I think would be every bit as bad and probably worse because he has a political mind, while Trump doesn't. He's fascist as hell.

If progressives split from centrist dems, they (centrists) would never win again. They always come begging progressives to help them win, then treat us like the proverbial redheaded stepchild after. They control the DNC and the party so they get away with ruling as the minority (like Trumpians of the left). And since 2016 progressives outnumber centrists in the house as the majority of the left, but centrists and GOPer-lites like Manchin and Sinema maintain control of leftwing legislation in the Senate. I think progressives will be the majority of the left in both branches of Congress before 2028. Clinton era "moderate centrist corporatist" dems are facing extinction.

I would love to have a true Progressive Party, just not at the cost of losing democracy.

I agree with you on DeSantis. He's a huge antithesis to traditional conservativism the way he runs Florida. He follows along that hypocritical line of wanting the Government out of your life...unless he wants the Government to be in your life.

I don't necessarily think that dynamic would lead to another Trump, though. I could be wrong, but I think there are a lot of people who either pulled out of the Republican party beforehand, or saw what it became since 2016 who are very disenfranchised with what has happened and subconsciously associates themselves as prisoners to the movement and party as a whole. Prisoners because they could never bring themselves to vote Democrat, so they see whoever the R option is as being the only option, good or bad (perhaps I should say bad or worse).

The Republicans' biggest strategic problem in my eyes is that they are all form and no substance. They get all kinds of riled up about things and pound the table, but I honestly don't know what their policies even are anymore, other than just opposing what the Democrats want to do. McConnell basically insinuated as much when he went after Rick Scott for proactively setting forth a policy a few months back.

A bigger problem to me - one where I think you and I agree - is that Democrats (as a whole) are making the Republicans' strategy a viable one. What I think enabled this quagmire is that there are only two parties that arrogantly turn back toward their bases and say "Sorry, but I'm all you got, and the end of the day." This has to be especially apparent in unwavering districts and states. Tommy Tuberville for instance has demonstrated that he is one of the slimiest politicians we have in office today, but hey, he coached football at Alabama and he's a Republican, so he doesn't even have to care remotely about his constituents. On the other hand, look at Menendez from NJ. It's disgusting.

Yes, it's so extreme to want the poor and working class to live decent lives. And you call me extremist. And who gets to say what's normal? Normal to you might be incomprehensible to 60% of the rest of us, but YOU still think your POV is the only right POV. How are you any better than a Trumpian? You create a false reality in your mind and pull a Bruce Willis-style die-hard battle of words like a child stomping his feet saying, "No you are wrong and I am right" until you exhaust those debating you. Both parties are as split as they ever been. I stopped voting one party across the board years ago. I vote for who I think will do the best job for any elected position. I will add that I believe the multiparty system is our down fall.

Good grief…I know he’s out of office soon, but throw Cawthorne in there for good measure. Blind rage and antagonism has now become a platform.

All you have to do to see the effects of Trumpism is read some of the posts of people who were normal Americans 5 years ago, now spewing Trumpian fascist talking points all over this board. Without Trump, we would have no anti-covid-mandate backlash beyond the lower number of anti-vaxxers that existed pre-Trump. Without Trump, we wouldn't be watching our American institutions being destroyed with nonsensical rhetoric, purposeful lies and insinuation, intentionally bred mistrust and fear, or the most unAmerican of all desires to live under an authoritarian fascist theocratic regime. Without Trump, we wouldn't be even nearly as divided. So yes, Fate et al, TRUMP IS THE BIGGEST CAUSE FOR WHERE WE ARE AT POLITICALLY AS A NATION.

We don't need a third party, the Libertarian party is already the answer to everyone's needs.

That sounds about right... but you gotta go back a number of years to Newt Gingrich.. for my money, he started this mess with his "them vs us" mentality.

For the record, I'm way more convinced that each party police themselves... The left and right need to clean up the mess made by the extremes of both parties.

They both need to quit playing to those that want to destroy this country. They should ALL be working to improve the lives of all Americans....

The decent and loyal people serving in Congress need to quit pandering and begin leading...

I'm probably asking way to much.. but it's what I think.

100%... both extremes are at fault... a third party won't do anything if these fools can't learn to work together... great things can happen when both sides are willing to compromise rather than trying to 'win'

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

The libertarian party doesn't tell you what to think, they let you think for yourself. They're also not waiting for the government to help them with every little thing.

Fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Checks all the boxes for me.
