I am still against just giving out free money with no qualifications.

As I posted elsewhere I would be open to some sort of "reward" for payment. For every 12 months of prompt/accurate payments you get a rebate on your loan. This way, they have skin in the game, and it's not just a handout.

There are a whole lot of people who have done everything they can to pay off their debt, and this just spits in their face.

And there is no arguing that that PRICE for attending college in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s was absurdly low.

That's nothing but a weak excuse for why the cost of college is so absurdly high now. So let me see if I have your reasoning correct. The price of college was way too cheap back then and the huge cost of it now was the market simply correcting itself?

How anyone could possibly convince themselves of something so absurd is utterly amazing.

Nothing you stated changes the fact that using the education system as a way to bilk young people out of far more money than previous generations is right. As I said before, either people can see education as an investment in this nation going forward or as a business. It's one or the other. I'm glad that when free community college in my state was passed there were Republicans in charge who were level headed enough to understand just how valuable a well educated population really is.

While I rather like your point about having a reward or rebate program as you suggested, the part of your post that I quoted I find very flawed. Those very same people would have openly accepted any help they could have gotten. I'm sure they would have embraced it had the government decided to give them some form of debt relief. So the entire "spit in their face" comment is based solely on their attitudes. Because people can choose to look at it from two distinctly different viewpoints.

One is they could be very happy for students receiving debt relief because they won't be forced to go through many of the hardships which they themselves have to endure and they understand just how helpful it would have been for them. Sometimes people are actually happy for people that don't have to suffer the way they did.

Then there's the other group who will just be mad and say, "Yeah, well nobody helped me!"

Supply and demand. Why are super bowl tickets more expensive than preseason tickets? Demand

Why is college more expensive than it it was 30 years ago? Demand. Where did the demand come from? Government handing out loans to anyone that wants one.

The word of the day…
Compersion.

Compersion is our wholehearted participation in the happiness of others. It is the sympathetic joy we feel for somebody else, even when their positive experience does not involve or benefit us directly. Thus, compersion can be thought of as the opposite of jealousy and possessiveness.

I paid off my student loans. Took me about 15 years total. It sucked. If there was debt relief given to my fellow Americans today… awesome!. Couldn’t be happier that they won’t have the struggles that I had. I hope they take their newfound freedom from that debt and do great things with it. Start businesses, buy homes, start families, etc.

A college education is the regular season. Not preseason or the Superbowl. As I said, you either see it as an investment in the future of your country by having a better educated populace or you don't. As of now it seems people wish to make it and keep it a business. Some things shouldn't work that way.

I was pointing out that you actually weren't addressing many of the points I mentioned. But I know being offended and angry is the first thing you do. I'm not out to get you arch. They make medication for that.

Not the market correcting itself. There used to be a lot more government subsidies to reduce the price that students were paying. I am not sure if the decreased government funding is simply due to increased enrollments causing the funds to be spread more thinly or because they decreased funding. So, I say it was absurdly cheap because most of the costs were covered and for people that pursued college in the 60s, they benefited tremendously over their lifetimes.

I think you are reading into what everyone is writing and assuming that nobody here wants to spend on education. That is not the case.
I personally pointing out that the costs are lower, and by that, I mean the input costs of education, and we need to be taking advantage of the technology that delivers education at a lower cost and we need to reorganize colleges and how money is spent in order to better educate our populace at a better price to the student and lower overall cost.

Only a moron would suggest that anger and being offended are medical issues. But then there's always at least one in every crowd.

I find it hard that you of all people actually feel you have the right to say such a thing when lies and fighting is all you seem to post.

Why? Because you complain I am not a medical doctor when I say someone is showing signs of dementia but you feel it is ok to say someone needs medicine to cure them?

Sadly I don't find it hard to believe you actually buy the nonsense you peddle and you can't see your own hypocrisy.

Let me explain to you what nonsense is. It seems as though you can't understand the difference between an observation and a diagnosis. Actually I think you can but are being purposefully obtuse.

You can observe the actions of someone. You can easily see if a person is angry or frustrated. Just like you can observe a speech of Biden's and see lapses in him being able to remember things at certain times.

Once you claim to know why these things are happening by stating you know someone's mental state you are making a diagnosis strictly based on your observations. It's like watching a person who has a limp walking across a parking lot. You can easily observe the person is limping. What you can't do unless you're qualified to do so is state that you know why they have a limp.

Hopefully does that not only help you but also those possibly considering your nonsensical post. You're welcome.

Actually I do know the difference. I wasn't the one that was asking someone if they were a doctor to try and invadiate what someone was saying. That was you. You think you can toss out any old argument then sluff it off when it comes back to you.

In other words, you have this hypocritical view of how you approach debate. If you can't win on merit, you attack the person to try and make them not credible. When someone holds you to YOUR standard you wiggle, spin and back track.

But hey, I'm the one you claim that think's he is better than everyone.

Have you looked for mental health services in TN? I suspect you can find free help. If you need someone to help you with that just let me know.

So you were trying to make a diagnosis based on your observation and I made an observation without making a diagnosis and now you think that scores you some kind of points? I think you need to take your own advice. Seek help. You're still not very good at this.

Again you have it all wrong with your spin and deflection.

I was making an observation. I never claimed to be able to "diagnose". That is a claim you made. So you were wrong. If you stop typing you might stop being wrong so often.

I just held you to the standard you were trying to apply to me, which you don't like because of the hypocrisy thing. If you stop typing, you might stop being a hypocrite all the time.

You claimed what you observed was dementia. That's not an observation. That's a diagnosis. I said it could be something different and you neither had the information needed nor the expertise to make such a diagnosis. Don't try to walk it back now.

You're making up some false equivalence that simply doesn't exist.

What diagnosis code did I use? No code, no diagnosis.

Quit trying to back track and spin your way out of this. You don't like to be held to the same standard you try and push on others. <=-- That means you are a hypocrite, but you knew that much.
