No, not at all. Trump and his followers have made that their main calling card. Make America Great Again. Using it only points out the folly of it all. Surely you knew that.

I'm mostly speaking to the posters here that scream "MAGA!" for any difference of opinion whatsoever. "It's just a buzz word that makes them feel all fuzzy, warm and better about themselves for some strange reason" certainly applies, 100%.

That certainly does not apply to myself but I agree it does happen on here. I've made it quite clear multiple times over the course of the past four or five years that there are differences between actual conservative and even moderate Republicans and the MAGA crowd. That not all republicans are the same.

In turn it's also true that anyone who doesn't walk the Republican line gets labeled as woke. While just like with Republicans, not all people who lean Democrat are the same. So in terms of it being a two way street in a lot of cases I would say you're correct. The only real difference as I pointed out is that the right really doesn't and can't quite seem to define what woke actually does mean.

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Allegations that Twitter has turned office space at its Market Street headquarters in San Francisco into makeshift “motel rooms” for employees are going to be investigated, according to the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection.

The investigation comes after a report from Forbes cited sources who said several offices at the building had been converted into sleeping quarters.

The quarters were described as “modest bedrooms featuring unmade mattresses, drab curtains and giant conference-room telepresence monitors” in the Forbes report. Zoë Schiffer, an editor at tech industry outlet Platformer, also alleged in a tweet that a library at the SF office had been converted into a sleeping area, quoting a current Twitter employee who described it as “cozy.”

And of course Musk is whining that San Fransisco plans to inspect these spaces. I guess he doesn't understand that when you convert any part of a commercial building or dwelling into living space it requires a permit and an inspection. Actually he's already trying to make a case that San Fran cares more about this inspection than fentanyl. Hopefully one would think he would be smart enough to understand that building code enforcement doesn't handle drug investigations.

Woke is the past tense of wake.
People started using it as slang to describe themselves as "having their eyes opened" particularly to societal issues.
People use it in jest now because it was often a way that a young adult might describe themselves thinking that they were enlightened and unusually insightful when in fact others saw them as immature and egotistical. Views that are often rooted in the overly-simplistic oppressor vs victim narrative are often seen as "woke".

I don't care to debate anyone on the whether it is okay to describe something as woke. I don't use the term. Just telling you what I perceive it to mean and why it is used as a pejorative.

So, if someone is WOKE according to how you defined it, what's so bad about having your eyes open to societal issues?

I wasn't aware anyone used it in Jest. Lots of politicians on the Right are using it as some kind of slam against anyone that is concerned over things they feel aren't important.

Just imagine the term hadn't become popular and you are a 20 year old college student that thinks you are enlightened, so you claiming that you are woke. That doesn't mean that you are actually enlightened, it just means that you think you are, and in some way it also implies that most other people are asleep and somehow not very bright. You can see how that might come off as egotistical and deserving of being made fun of a little.
So, that is how it gained steam and started. I imagine at this point it has morphed into something that is being used to describe a wider range of ideas and people.
Like I said, I don't use the term.

This tells you everything you need to know about Elon and his transition to the far right from being progressive. He's gone full-on nuts.

He's gone off the deep end and those who seem to be supporting it aren't surprising.

There is nothing non-progressive about thinking that Fauci is corrupt, which he is, though you wouldn't know this if you watch mainstream news outlets.

Also, your idea of progressive probably differs significantly than mine. In my opinion, supporting Democratic Party politics has nothing to do with progressivism and if anything, I would consider both major political parties to be obstacles to progress.

Progress should be a core idea in the definition of progressivism. You are talking about Elon Musk, a man that made a ton of money by bringing progress in financial technology, then he took that fortune and put it all on the line to create progress in the areas of electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, underground transportation, space exploration, and worldwide communications. There is not one single member of Congress that can claim to have contributed even 1/10th of what Musk has to the progress of humanity.
I truly wish that Musk had not bought Twitter. Not because of politics, but because I think it is a distraction from the more important things going on with his other businesses. In my view, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok are all thing we would be better off without and the value that they create in the form of a digital town-square is far outweighed by the harm they cause.
