It is sad. Franco was a classy, humble guy who represented his city well.

I remember him and Larry Csonka back in the days of the big power backs. I loved the era! The only one I can think of now that fits that mold would be Derrick Henry. It's sad that he didn't get to see his number retired before he passed away.

Feel the same... I didn't watch him play, but always felt he was a pretty upstanding guy

My wife and mother in law met Franco Harris at a fundraiser back in 2004. They said that he was one of the kindest gentlemen that they’ve ever met. All class.
From a Browns fan, RIP to one of the all time greats.

He was a great player, for me it is sad that he died, moreso because he was so close to being honoured. They should’ve retired his #32 years ago.

I might bad-mouth the Steelers sometimes but I have a lot of respect for their organization (they voted ‘no’ to the move to Baltimore, for one thing). Franco Harris was an icon from my pre-teen NFL experience in the late 70s.

It is sad that he passed just before the ceremony, but I'd like to also offer this: a ceremony is just a ceremony.

As I understand it, he'd had an absolute blast these last few weeks- taking interviews, reconnecting with old friends, making plans, etc. I would count myself extremely lucky to have something like this as my last few days in Life. An old man, being celebrated for his youthful accomplishments, yet still with a sense of purpose and something to look forward to. Too many of our elderly are deprived of those- and many lived extraordinary lives, unknown to us.

I choose to focus on that, and how many smiles he gave to fans, friends and ordinary folk over the years.
He was fun to watch, except when he played on the same field as us. Then, he was a nightmare.

RIP Franco … a true gentleman

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

That was unnecessary, don’t you think? I took it as Vers saying he’s glad no one made snide comments due to Franco being a Steeler.
