This might be the most important question that needs to be answered as we begin to look ahead to the 2023 season.
I'm simply asking due to the confusion being created by some of the news that is beginning to surface concerning the extent of Paul Depodesta's involvement and his reported involvement, with the blessing of the Haslams, again as reported in podcasts and print.
Who is running this franchise..?
I'm reading that the Haslam's turned the operation over to their analytics ace, Paul Depodesta and now there are podcast indicating the same, that Depodesta and with his analytics philosophies is now in charge.
Kevin Stefanski continues to be at the center of the latest Cleveland Browns news and rumors and today’s Browns Report by Chat Sports is all about a new Browns rumor story from Tony Grossi at TheLandOnDemand about Paul DePodesta running the show behind the scenes in Cleveland. Is Kevin Stefanski safe in Cleveland because he is just following Jimmy Haslam and Paul DePodesta’s orders?
Cleveland Browns DC Joe Woods is likely entering his final 2 games as the Browns defensive coordinator and the list of Joe Woods replacements continues to grow as Brian Flores and Ejiro Evero are popping up as candidates to watch for. Matthew Peterson runs through the other list of potential Joe Woods replacements, as well.
Ironically, few, if any other sources followed Jared Mueller's lead and wrote stories blaming our center for the Browns offensive line issues. Mueller's "hit job" article on Froholdt was meant to be "clickbait" and some Browns fans gobbled the story down and ran with it. Mueller's story pissed me off, especially after I reviewed video.
I will never apologize for defending our team or players when unfairly attacked, regardless of the
To stay in business, sites now throw out as many stories as they can, as quickly as they can, to maximize page views, which maximizes ad dollars, and gets them money to keep going. Along the way, they’ve laid off editors and content managers, so what you’re getting (from single outlets) are overlapping stories that often duplicate each other, being flung out willy-nilly with no rhyme or reason. Some outlets are worse than others, but when I do the newswire, I throw stories away because I’m not going to link essentially three of the same story from the same outlet."
1. Paul Depodesta, Andrew Berry, and Kevin Stefanski all signed off on a collaborative approach to running the Browns. They agreed to it. They each have their pieces they are responsible for and each of their pieces impacts the others in some form or fashion.
2. They all report to Jimmy. Jimmy was sold on this idea and signed off on it.
3. The approach most likely leaves a lot of gray area in certain aspects where no one knows who's really leading certain things. There is no true, unquestioned leader. This is what happens when there is gray in the chain of command. This is why the Browns are a leaderless, rudderless ship.
4. When things are going well, it's no big deal. Now that things are falling apart, probably most of what is being highlighted, while having some semblance of truth, is being embellished for more than it is. For example, maybe Stefanski has asked Depo to come up with play calls in certain situations based on analytics and success rate. Depo obliges, Stef puts them on the waffle house menu, and uses them in the game. Now all of sudden Depo is really the one calling Stef's plays, according to the media.
5. The real culprit is that one or all of them are incompetent, including Jimmy - because he's the only one that can fix it and doesn't appear like he will.
6. The other real negative thing to come out of this is the structure and the presence of Depo severely limits your talent pool if you want to replace Stefanski or Berry.
This is where we are as an organization. There is really little hope for the future. Depo, Berry, Stef, and Haslam treat this as one big science experiment where the experiment takes priority over winning. They want to win, but only under their lab conditions. When in reality, football is a game of instinct, emotion, confidence, momentum, toughness, and will. None of those guys bring any of that to the table.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...
It’s tough to know the truth IMO. I think the FO/Depo/Analytics department definitely has influence on game planning, personnel, etc. But I also think Kevin fully buys into that stuff too, so it’s probably all collaborative
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
This might be the most important question that needs to be answered as we begin to look ahead to the 2023 season.
I'm simply asking
All the bold letters makes it feel
More than simply asking
Kind of like you're yelling for answers
Lol !!!
Deis...when it comes to "proper" social media etiquette, I'm probably not very good at that sort of thing. I use caps and quotes to emphasis what I'm talking about or attempting to discuss rather than making sure I'm following someone's idea of what I should be saying or how I should be presenting my opinions and question to satisfy those looking for prim and proper typing.

Mac - sorry I am not buying or playing the game of responding to any and everything on the internet. Despite common knowledge that 'everything on the internet is true' - occasionally total speculation and BS does get through.
Rish - these 3 points I agree with. Above and beyond that idk. Point 6 about Depo - I think when KS is moved on or retires, we may well have to also move on from Depo for this very reason. Unless we are about to embark on a decade long era of unprecedented Brown's success which is possible even if it is not probable.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Here is what Stefanski said about DePo during his press conference on 11/21....
On Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta’s involvement in helping prepare the team’s gameplan each week:
“Paul and really a bunch of areas in our building give me and our coaches, and our scouts, give us a ton of great information. Paul is very helpful to me throughout the week in a bunch of conversations in all areas of football, not specific to one area.”
Sticky to football and what is broken and what needs fixed.
Defense mainly. I think the analytics led Depo and Berry to field a team of smaller faster players to combat the high-powered offenses in the NFL. They're approach was to devalue the Defensive Tackle and Middle Linebacker because they league has become a passing league. I would say that approach has failed, and I hope they learn from that mistake and fix the run defense. I don't believe you can have a good defense if you cannot stop the run first and foremost. That is just a basic fundamental. Do I want Depo, Berry, and Stef fired because they swung and missed in this area. No! I just want them to learn from that mistake and fix that key area on defense.
On Offense I believe they identified QB and WR as the problem following the 2021 season and they went all in on Deshaun Watson. They hoped that his suspension would be shorter but having a franchise QB for the next decade would be better than what they had. I also think they all tired of OBJ and Landry to a lesser extent and started to retool the WR room this year. I don't think they're done here yet. I believe they swung and missed on Schwartz and will find WR that will stretch the defense and open up the short to intermediate throws for Cooper, DPJ, and the Chief. What they did with Brissett was great in my opinion and I hope he sticks around as the backup to Deshaun. QB's get hurt. Very few go thru a season completely healthy. Brissett has proven he can win. If not for defense and special teams let downs, he would have handed off the baton to Deshaun with a 6-5 record at least. I think the RB room will be Chubb, Ford, and Felton next year and the $ taken up by Hunt and Johnson used to find a reliable deep threat. The offense just needs more explosive plays instead of always relying on methodical drives.
Special teams need and must improve. Hopefully, York improves consistency in year 2. That will translate into another win or 2. Would have definitely beaten the Chargers this year with a 51-yard kick.
While this year was disappointing. Keep the front office and coaches together another year. Let's see what happens. I think this team is close. Too close to have a dramatic change now.

DayOTheDawg...I can't find anything I would disagree with, but I will add, it is important that the Browns have one individual leading the franchise.
Right now, NO ONE can answer the question about WHO IS RUNNING THE FRANCHISE...and that is a BIG PROBLEM.
Do the players put their trust in Stefanski and do all they can to respond to his critique of his players performances according to STEFANSKI'S STANDARDS...or do the players wait to hear from Podesta and view their performances according to his ANALYTICS STANDARDS..?
OR DO THE PLAYERS SIMPLY put their trust in the man who signs their paycheck..? Face it, Haslam is everywhere, judging the players as if he was the HC, on the sideline during practice and in the locker room, playing the part of the coach. JMO, but Haslam is reliving a fantasy, where he is a head coach leading his team to the playoffs. Haslam is simply not satisfied to be the Browns owner...he wants and demands to be more..!
WHO ARE THE BROWNS PLAYERS WORKING FOR..? Who is in charge of the franchise..?..Haslam, Depodesta or Stefanski..?
The problem in Cleveland as I see it...too many individuals want to PLAY THE PART OF "I'M THE COACH" and you players should be performing according to MY STANDARDS...meaning that Haslam, Depodesta and Stefanski all want to be the INDIVIDUAL IN CHARGE...and the players are working for ONE OF THOSE THREE...take you pick.
Someone tell me, WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE BROWNS..?
I won't fall into the trap of trying to guess who is or is not in charge of what parts of the organization. What I will state is something I actually know. Through HC's, FO's and every other change in the organization, while everyone else has come and gone, Depo has remained.
While that certainly doesn't answer your question it is solid evidence as to who Haslam trusts the most and who has his ear.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
According to themselves all decisions is handled over their weekly family dinner including children and boyfriends in the decision making. Occasionally they invite Berry, DePo and Steff.

Ya know, I wanted to agree with this, but I think in reality, in a caveman society, who kills the spiders
so, I think, Jimmy used to at first, Dee stepped in, took the driver seat for a while,
but when the road becomes a mountainous juggernaught and impassible, I think they both want Jimmy really taking back the wheel so to speak and running the franchise therefore I think Jimmy Haslam would be, because of business operations in the UsA
Now, the @uestion I have is, has the Browns owner learned anything/ how much/ since he bought the team.
This week I'm really focused on
What is the Browns onfield identity and
Are the Browns true to their Brand on the field.
How does going from Baker to Deshaun change the Browns Brand? How do allll of the things that transpire effect the team brand? Is there long term ingegrity to the Brand? Everybody knows a commited ship doesn't change course.
What kind of responsibility the team has from representing the city of Cleveland...
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Reading from where? To be fair, If that were true ^^, then that would back up mostly everything you've posted for the past 2 years and I've been on your side, in thinking, against analytics, but since if that ^^ were true it would back up what you've been posting then one can surmise that you'd certainly hope it were true, therefore it would fit that awful word "agenda"

Just a quick question, Who is Matthew Peterson and how much does he really have as far as an inside track into the Browns? I don't remember ever hearing this guys name.
Not trying to be snotty here, I just never heard of the guy.

Caught the thread title again, and... "that drummer guy from the muppets?"
is that the correct answer? is that the answer you were looking for Alex Trebec? "Animal", That drummer guy from the muppets is running the Browns franchise. ]He may as well be.)
... I wonder if he can cover kicks?
