Not surprised to see Ronnie Hickman as one of the names. Sounds like that had been in place even before the draft ended.

Kwesi steals a guy I would have liked the Browns to land...

I wonder if Phelps might slot in at LB for us. He kind of reminds me of Takitaki.

Anybody able to find anything on Cormier? As far as I can tell, he doesn't seem to exist.

Our lack of emphasis on TE in such a GOOD TE draft was a little surprising

Does the Browns choice to not draft a RB = an endorsement of RB John Kelly?

yes, No, maybe,
or
it = an endorsement of Jerome Ford.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I'm a little disappointed the Melsop went to the Chargers. I thought he could be someone we could develop.

Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

I like Hickman.

Jeremiah Martin is the most interesting of the others for me. Kind of looks like another projection from the staff to me. What Washington asked him to do isn't what we will I'm thinking, or maybe it's more how they asked him to do it. They had him standing up and it appears playing more read and react. To me, he flashed more with his hand in the dirt and attacking. His 40 time is a bit underwhelming, but he has some suddenness and long arms.

It could be.

We know that Ford is the primary back-up to Chubb. We still have Felton, who I don't think is the answer to anything, but my opinion doesn't matter. After that it looks like Kelly and UDFA Hassan Hall out of Ga Tech.

Hall is a decent back who has some return ability, so if he makes the team it will probably be in that role.

That is a position where we might still make some moves. Current FA or camp cut.

I remember him at Florida.

At minimum he will be a special teams leader year one. We also signed him for a $250,000 guarantee, so not only did we want to sign him, apparently several others did as well.

Browns give Kansas UDFA pass rusher a massive contract

Jacob Roach
May 3, 2023 2:55 pm ET
Under general manager Andrew Berry, the Cleveland Browns have shown they aren’t afraid to hand out large contracts for undrafted free agents they covet. This trend has continued this year as Aaron Wilson has reported that pass rusher Lonnie Phelps has secured a payday from the team. Wilson says the contract is for $250,000 guaranteed, including a $50,000 signing bonus.

Phelps is an intriguing player that should have a fair chance to battle for a roster spot as a pass rusher. This past season for the Jayhawks Phelps had an 18.9 pass rush win rate according to PFF. He is pretty strong in run support as well, with seven sacks this season and 8.5 sacks in 2021.

The NFL rookie salary is $750,000. That's real good if you make the team.

A $250,000, a flyer on on a FA that you were considering drafting makes sense. Looks like there were 2 of them.

AJ Green received a bonus a couple of years ago. That turned out good.

This is most likely the reason we traded the 7th round pick. There was a gamble that UDFA's would be available.

Think through it, it is a good strategy.

j/c,

The roster stands at 85 ... needing to make room for 9 UDFAs' means that 4 player from our roster will be cut.

I agree.

I don't know if there are any stipulations that might void the guarantee, but the guarantee basically means the guy will make the team unless he simply decides that $250,000 is a good enough lottery win.

I know Diabate got one. He should be a lock to be a key special team member at minimum. I can't recall the other, I think a safety, another who should be a key special teamer at minimum.
