Mitch McConnell freezes during press conference

I certainly hope McConnell is okay. I've heard medical people say it could be as complicated as a mini stroke or possible seizure due to his concussion when he fell some months ago, all the way to something simple as a reaction to a medication or dehydration.

Either way I hope he gets the medical testing required to identify if it was anything serious and gets the medical attention he needs as required.

I fully understand that we as people have political differences but in matter such as these we should all be on the same side in hopes that everything is okay with Mitch.

I hope the person is ok. You hit the nail on the head there.

However, I also hope that we finally sit down and have that conversation about age and these folks doing their jobs. Between this, Biden, Trump, and Feinstein there's more than enough to force a tough conversation about a standard regarding being fit for duty.

I agree that there certainly needs to be a conversation about that. But to get politicians to risk giving up their power I think is pretty much a dream. It will be virtually impossible to "force them to have a tough conversation" about something that may prevent them from exerting their influence. I mean look at the SCOTUS. We can't even get them to adopt a code of ethics.

I think no president should begin a term after their 72nd birthday, 70 for senators, 74 for house members. Everyone is done by 76. 76 for SCOTUS as well.

100%.... but honestly, the sad thing is people keep electing them... even when some of them have had obvious mental impairments....

To my eye, he had a focal seizure.

My guess is mini stroke. There was a pronounced slurring of speech before he simply shut down.

This was hard to watch.
I hope he's diagnosed, and given the help he seems to need.

I was thinking more in lines with limiting things by election cycles.

No more than 5 terms as a house representative. 10 years

4 cycles as a senator. 24 years

2 presidential terms. 8 years.

That is 42 years if you went through every chamber. That woould get most people in that age range you mention. Maybe a year or two past.

SCOTUS would have to be termed out, at maybe 80 years old.

I think the House is the big problem. Too many career types stick in there for decades. I think at some point if a person wants to stick as a politician, they should have to meet a requirement of being able to carry a state wide election. Senator or Governor.

In the end, we agree that something needs to happen.

It could be a Mini stroke but it does not look like the ones I have had. (I have had over 30 of them) I have to go with Portland on this one.

We should be celebrating, like all the silly Goper’s did over Ginsberg’s death and Pelosi’s husband being beaten by a MAGA man.

I don't care for Mitch.. Don't like his politics either. But I don't want to see this either. Best of luck Mitch.

I'm much like you in that regard. I don't mind going toe to toe with Republicans in using their own tactics against them. They hated political correctness? Well they're getting what they asked for. But there's a limit. Wishing death or severe health problems on anyone is a point at which I refuse to cross. Nobody should be "celebrating" what happened to Mitch or wish him ill will. There is a limit at where humanity should draw a line. If others refuse to see that, that doesn't mean anyone else should join them. All they prove at that point is they are no better than those who they feel felt that way on the other side.

You hear them lump everyone who isn't a right wong extremist as liberals and communists when anyone with eyes can see we're not all the same. The same goes for Republicans.

All you have to do is read through most of the threads on this board to see the lengths people will go through to advocate the election of someone who has no business being in office.

It really is about common sense that has somehow been obfuscated.

I agree with Daman...

Hey, give the guy a break, Mitch is an 'old guy' and he is aloud to have a few episodes.

We need to realize that all of us are heading toward OLD GUY territory and the day will come when we 'freeze up' like Mitch did...

Seriously, it looks like Mitch has something going on with his health and I hope can overcome whatever it might be.

Yeah, but we shouldn’t be a heavily governmentally influential position when we “head that way.”

There are age limits on the low end. I don’t consider it arbitrary to have them at the top end. At the very least, a cognition test due to variances. McConnell’s 80 is a hell of a lot different than Sanders’ 80, and sadly appears to be significantly better than Feinstein’s 90.
