JMHO, I guess I didn't think about the moral part of technology use- I'm located in Florida, now I'm located in Ohio thru tech and watch anything- college game, NFL football game, the movies they are playing on TV in that area.

I didn't consider it stealing content---the whole copyright aspect of it. I'll think about it. I pay for CBS content in Florida- watch ads, so, if I watch CBS in Ohio from Florida I'm stealing content? I'll think about it, but I don't think it is illegal/ nor immoral.
Is listening to Donovan on Cleveland Browns website over the internet illegal/immoral- I'm in Florida and Cleveland Browns are supporting me stealing content over the internet? I don't think so.

Truthfully, I had not considered it stealing or breaking copyright- thanks.

I don't go to bars if I'm not going to drink. I avoid booze these days. Being around rowdy drunks while sober generally isn't much fun for me. There isn't a sports bar nearby even if I wanted to do so.

Maybe because it's illegal? I stopped drinking several years ago. But most Browns games are early games. Well before people tend to get "drunk and rowdy" in the bars. We can all make rationalizations and excuses for stealing copyright content but just remember that when people make excuses to break other laws.

"Should it be illegal?" is the side of the issue that I'm looking at.

There are lots of outdated laws still on the books.

"Punishing" people based on where they live seems kind of weird in the modern global economy. The entire idea of the internet was to bring people together and give access to everyone (maybe not initially but the public stance later adopted.)

Dude, I was sailor. We drank all day, everyday in port. I also think you underestimate the amount of day drinking Browns fans/sports fans in general do on game days.

I'm not "re-transmitting or rebroadcasting" copyrighted material. And I'm not using a VPN to get around geographic restrictions. I'm just annoyed that its a situation I even have to consider.

Lots of people make lots of rationalizations for lots of things. You've had some doozies. We all have.

When a big part of the business model revolves around advertising money, it's just strange that more viewers is somehow seen as a bad thing.

As long as copyright laws exist as they are currently written, yes, those who own the content control its distribution. I don't believe the intent of the internet was to permit people to infringe on copyright laws. If you're asking does it "feel right or seem right" is something as I stated before, can be the rationale to break many laws. I for one smoked weed for a very long time back in the day when it was still illegal as an example. But I knew it was breaking the law and if caught there would be consequences. You have the mind set that it's "punishment" and you're certainly entitled to that opinion. Just like I thought weed should be legal back then. But in both cases our feelings didn't really natter.

Putting it another way, when you (the NFL) are a national and in some ways global entity providing an online digital product, what is local, really?

If I'm paying for the product, why time gate it based on geography? Why do I have to go out of my way to avoid spoilers if I want to enjoy watching the game without knowing the results? And if I do so, I can't enjoy the banter with other fans while the game is actually going on.

Why do it one way for radio and another for video? It just seems unnecessarily convoluted.

It's kind of like why do they still use turf fields? Yes, they can save pennies on the dollar on field maintenance, but if the quality of the product suffers and it upsets the people that ultimately are that product is it worth it in the long run?

If I weren't such a Browns addict, I'm pretty sure I'd stop watching altogether. I'm already considering it. Just kind of sick of the greed everywhere anymore.

Greed has controlled this planet since the beginning of mankind. The question why has also been around forever. You keep changing the questions for which the answer remains the same. They own the content and have legal authority and control over that content. They own the rights and as such can do as they please with it. What you're doing is paying for content under the parameters you have agreed to. Nothing more, nothing less. Doing otherwise is a criminal infraction.

Which is why I'm doing it the (legal) way I am. It's still stupid.

Lots of things that are illegal are stupid. A lot of things that remain legal are stupid. None of that has anything to do with it. Which seems like a very rough concept for people to grasp.
