Detroit at Dallas is 7-3 at the half. Dallas seems like the better team, but both teams have squandered opportunities

End of this game is a little nutty. I would not go for 2.

Detroit got jobbed....on a technicality! The Lions were the real winners of this game. More controversies this season from officiating...sad.

Taylor Decker on Lions' controversial two-point conversion penalty: 'I did exactly what coach told me to do' - CBSSports.com
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...-i-did-exactly-what-coach-told-me-to-do/

Thankfully, the Detroit Lions had already sewed up a playoff spot prior to Saturday night's loss to the Dallas Cowboys. But the loss, and especially what happened that led to the loss, has fans in Detroit questioning whether or not the officials cost them a win and a chance to have a higher seed when the playoffs start in two weeks.

The Lions appeared to be on their way to a win when offensive lineman Taylor Decker caught Jared Goff's two-point conversion pass that gave Detroit a one-point lead over the Cowboys with under a minute left. But the official ruled that Decker was an ineligible receiver, even though Taylor said he reported prior to the snap.

It appears that the official incorrectly determined that fellow lineman Dan Skipper reported as eligible instead of Decker. The official announced that Skipper's number (70) had reported as eligible prior to the snap. Skipper said after the game that he did not say a word to the official before the snap.

That helps explain why the refs thought that Taylor was flagged for being eligible.

"All I really wanna say on it ... I did exactly what coach told me to do," Decker said afterwards, via The Detroit News. "I went to the ref, said report. ... I did what I was told to do, did how we did it in practice all week."

Decker said that it was his understanding that Campbell had informed the official of the two-point play prior to kickoff. Campbell, who didn't hide his frustration during his postgame press conference, explained the reasoning the officials gave him regarding the penalty.

"The explanation was seventy reported," he said. "Two people can't report. I don't want to talk about it, alright. I explained everything, pregame, to a T. Seventy reported, sixty-eight didn't, we threw it to sixty-eight, that was the explanation."

In a pool report, referee Brad Allen said the opposite, that Skipper reported to him as eligible and Decker did not.

"Therefore, he is an ineligible touching a pass that goes beyond the line, which makes it a foul," Allen said of Decker in the pool report. "So, the issue is, number 70 did report, number 68 did not."

Video showed Decker having a conversation with Allen, who then said something to the Cowboys' defense.

"That conversation is where [Skipper] reports to me, and I then go to the defensive team, and I say to them, '[Skipper] has reported as an eligible receiver,' so they will be aware of who has reported," Allen said in the pool report.

Instead of a game-winning catch, Taylor stood in disbelief as the Cowboys knelt down on the ball after the Lions came up short on their final two-point try. Fortunately for the Lions, they may get another shot at Dallas when the postseason begins.

"Screw it, I'd rather beat them in the playoffs," Lions pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson said. "That's my mentality."

The Lions are moving on, but the NFL will have to look into what exactly happened on Saturday night, as another thrilling game has ended in controversy.

what a strange ending. It seems like the refs were negligent in the process IMO

The Ravens are going to crush Miami,
and when I turned it on, the dolphins were up seven to 0.

I don't think Miami will know what hit them. pfffffffft.

Did the dolphins try a screen that got blown up, almost a pick 6? welcome to the afc north those don't go well,
everybody in the AFC North, ..except the bengals, blows up screens regularly.
then
the over the shoulder 24 yards downfield out, ... yeah, that worked, welcome to the afc east that's their staple, on 4th and 4, it worked to keep the drive alive, but; it's low percentage, won't work continually , they earned that field goal,
Miami I3, Baltimore I4.

No one is beating Baltimore this year . They will win the whole thing, and probably pretty easy. No one on their level

The Browns beat baltimore in baltimore, this year too.

" we did it before and we can do it again" <from world war 2.

The Cowboys, niners, Browns, eagles, and ? are on their level.

But Miami ain't ready for the afc north, rofl

Thank god we don’t play Baltimore first. I think Miami is scared of pressure. They will be one and done

Tua ain’t the guy. He makes some crucial mistakes at the worst time. He’s got an embarrassing amount of weapons. Couldn’t imagine what we could do with those receivers

If the Browns didn't have to play baltimore and Pittsburgh back to back every year, they'd have five division titles
in an other div.

Miami... Welcome to the suck.

Looks like we are locked into the 5 seed with chances very high that we play in Jacksonville

In many ways today set the table which I do not think is a bad thing.

We play the Jags. IMO we need to rest players. This gives us that chance.

So we played Thursday 12/28. We will not play a meaningful game till Jan 13th or 14th.

That is over two weeks to get guys needed rest and help heal some guys. That would not have happened if the Ravens lost today.

It gives additional time to plan and practice.

NFL needs to get rid of divisions. Playoffs and seeding should be based on records.

Yeah, I forget the year bit I do recall when the Saints had a better record than the seahawks (who had a losing record but won the division) had to travel to Seattle, and ended up losing the game

I kinda do, because they’re more capable of beating a higher seed than some of the other teams who get a WC.

Fair enough, I'm not really looking that far ahead right now. I just want to see them get a playoff win first before I start to even think about the divisional round. I don't want to jinx anything lol

Absolutely agree.

Should the Browns have the fortunate luck of facing the Ravens it will be but a stroll in the park.

The Browns match-up very well against the Ravens. No Andrews. Lost the speed of Keaton Mitchell. The Ravens have a weak WR group. Truly hoping the Browns face them in the Divisional Round.

so this is the most likely AFC scenario based on Vegas odds:

1. Baltimore
2. Buffalo
3. Kansas City
4. Jacksonville
5. Cleveland
6. Miami
7. Indianapolis

There is a real chance that Miami can beat KC in round 1, which would mean IF we beat Jacksonville our 2nd round game would be in Buffalo instead of Baltimore

It seems everyone loves to play fortune teller.

Sure the Ravens have won big lately. At one point Dallas looked great. Miami has at times looked good. The Bills are charging. The Lions have been impressive. The Niners have been great most of the time.

Then there is The Browns.

The 1-0 Browns.

We don't even know who we will play yet. Nor is there a complete playoff bracket.

We have one goal. Beat the team we play.

Of all the teams that will be in the playoffs. No team has done what the Browns have done.

Often times as it seems the teams with the most momentum at the time do well in the playoffs. While the Browns certainly have that so do the ravens. And they played a very good team. A team you beat not that long ago may be playing on a much higher or a much lower level going into the playoffs. That would hold true for the Eagles in the NFC who look very sloppy going into the playoffs and it would include the ravens who have been nothing less than terror on the field to their opponents. The Browns too are playing well and with momentum. But to say the ravens, with the way they are currently playing doesn't scare the hell out of me would be a lie.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

We all have a lot of emotional investment in the team, but in the end it is just a football game. It isn't life and death.

If we lose to the Jags or whoever in the first round, no doubt I will be disappointed. Sometimes a team comes out hot, sometimes flat. Sometimes the breaks go your way, sometimes not. Just the nature of officiated/judged sports.

Golf is the only major sport that is pretty much the contestant with zero officiating...sometimes a rules official has to come in to clarify various rules, but not often. You play the round, add up the score and you win, lose, or tie and go to a playoff.

It's been a good season no matter that happens next and we should be in good position to continue to be a team to recon with for the next few seasons..

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

There's one thing about it. I'm one who has realistic expectations. After all the injuries this team has dealt with they've already exceeded mine.
