Nobody, in any country, should ever have to experience this. That said, given their history, the irony is not lost on me.

You missed the opportunity there to use "Irany"

In all seriousness, though, I agree. They've made their bed for a while with all their provocations. It seems a lot of provocation was also to get people focused away from their own internal strife they were recently having following that girl's death. Seems things have come full circle. I feel horrible for the people who were killed and their families, though.

I can appreciate that. There are many factions within Iran. While I too hate to see the victims be civilian casualties, watching Iran destroy itself from the inside would be a certain amount of poetic justice.

An attack to be blamed on Israel no doubt. I’m pretty sure the IDF doesn’t use suitcase bombs in retaliation like this. But that won’t stop the Arab world for blaming the Jews for all their woes again. Pffft …religion causing the whole world to go insane.

The only attack I see Israel being blamed for is the one that took out the Hamas leader in Lebanon which I think they did do. It was a very surgical strike that had little to no civilian casualties. Maybe they are learning their lesson or maybe it's because Lebanon is a much bigger military threat than Hamas. Either way that's progress.

I wouldn't doubt that Iran may try to spin it the way you suggest. But "the Arab world" may be stretching it a bit. But I can see you have taken one side and seem to be labeling Arabs as "all the same" no matter how many innocent women and children are being slaughtered. Thus the term "the Arab world".

No doubt they blame Israel, as they would for a kid who scrapes his knee falling off a bike.

I am curious as to who it actually was, though.

I’m pretty sure we already know.

Smells like a false flag op

Edit to be clear: the attack was real. I hate seeing innocents lose their lives. I just can’t help but think this was done by Iran in order to justify further escalation.

That sounds like one very possible scenario. There are other factions inside Iran that wish to overthrow their government as well which I see as another possible scenario. I doubt we would ever find out the truth if either one of those scenarios was proven to be the case.

I could see that. If you're right, then I think Israel gets blamed 100%.

This should settle all of that. It's being broadcast on CNN but very little in print about it as of now.....

Islamic State claims responsibility for attacks that killed nearly 100 people in Iran

Islamic State claimed responsibility on Thursday for two explosions that killed nearly 100 people and wounded scores at a ceremony in Iran to commemorate commander Qassem Soleimani, who was killed by a U.S. drone in 2020.

The group posted a statement on its affiliate Telegram channels.

It was ISIS.

Ahh, well there you have it. Must say I'm a little surprised. It's a little like that three person standoff with everyone pointing guns at everyone. The three proverbial people in this case being ISIS/Sunni extremists, Iran/Shiite extremists, and Israel. It is an odd time for ISIS to be striking, though, considering Iran is pouring the massive bulk of its efforts toward Israel and Yemen. I suppose that makes it more opportune for ISIS, though. Plus, Soleimani was abhorred by ISIS.

There's a lot of division among themselves. As more is coming out it does not appear that the ISIS description of all of the events lines up with what Iran has been saying. In this case it's hard to know just who is telling the entire truth as to exactly what happened however I'm not surprised by that......

ISIS claims responsibility for deadliest attack in Iran since 1979 revolution

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the deadly twin blasts near the burial site of slain military commander Qasem Soleimani in southern Iran.

At least 84 people were killed and 284 injured in the blasts on Wednesday, state-run news agency IRNA reported, in what was the deadliest attack in Iran since its 1979 revolution.

ISIS media wing Al-Furqan issued a statement on Thursday – more than 24 hours after the explosions – claiming two suicide bombers had detonated their explosive vests as Shiite mourners gathered for the fourth anniversary of the assassination of Soleimani near his grave in his hometown of Kerman.

The statement, titled “And Kill Them Wherever You Find Them,” named the two bombers and said they targeted a gathering of “polytheists” near the grave of their “dead leader” Soleimani.

ISIS considers the Shia branch of Islam to be heretical and has targeted shrines and religious sites in Iran previously.

The group offered no further proof and their account of the blasts differ from that given by Iranian media. The death toll provided by ISIS was also significantly higher than that reported by Iranian officials.

Iran did not immediately comment on ISIS’ claim of responsibility.

Iran’s interior minister said the two blasts happened in short succession, with the second, deadlier blast coming as others rushed to help the wounded.

Another state media outlet, IRINN, said the first explosion was caused by a bomb placed in a suitcase inside a car and appeared to have been detonated remotely rather than being caused by a suicide bomber.

Videos showed large numbers of people running in the area after the explosions, bloodied bodies on the ground and ambulances driving through the packed crowds.

Iran declared Thursday a day of mourning and President Ebhrahim Raisi canceled a scheduled trip to Turkey.

Accusations flew in the time between the blasts and ISIS’ statement. Iran’s President Ebhrahim Raisi blamed Israel for the explosions and warned it would pay a “heavy price.” The Israeli military told CNN it had “no comment” on the matter.

Prior to ISIS’ statement, analysts and a US official had speculated that the blast had the hallmarks of a terror attack.

“It does look like a terrorist attack, the type of thing we’ve seen ISIS do in the past. And as far as we’re aware, that’s kind of I think our going assumption at the moment,” the official said.

Soleimani, formerly one of Iran’s most powerful men, was killed by a US airstrike ordered by former President Donald Trump at Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

Known as Iran’s “shadow commander,” he was head of the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, an elite unit that handles Iran’s overseas operations and was deemed to be a foreign terrorist organization by the US. He masterminded Iranian military operations in Iraq and Syria.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Gotta be honest, ISIS making a dramatic comeback was not on my 2024 bingo card.

I don't like to see any of it, but if it is going to happen, it might as well be internal strife. It's just too bad they have to do things like that in crowded public places where largely innocent people end up being blown to bits.

Suicide bombings in the middle east are now reduced to the internal strife label, lol, smh. Two enemies want to attack and kill each other? I don’t see the issue for us at all.

Or we could follow the Republican mantra of only thinking of them until they're born.

Something tells me we’ll get our wet noses in the middle of it anyways.
