Hamas says it has accepted the ceasefire deal proposed by Egypt and Qatar which seeks to halt the seven-month war with Israel in Gaza.

In a statement Monday, Hamas said the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, told the Qatari Prime Minister and Egyptian intelligence minister that the militant group had accepted their proposal.

CNN has asked the Israeli Prime Minister’s office for comment.

The latest framework, which Israel helped craft but has not fully agreed to, calls for the release of between 20 and 33 hostages over several weeks in exchange for a temporary ceasefire and the release of Palestinian prisoners.

After the initial exchange, there will follow what sources describe as the “restoration of sustainable calm” during which the remaining hostages, captive Israeli soldiers and the bodies of hostages would be exchanged for more Palestinian prisoners.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Rafah Live: Hamas accepted a ceasefire proposal, but Israel said it was unacceptable

No agreement over ceasefire proposal
12:33 CDT

An Israeli official said no ceasefire had been agreed in Gaza, after Hamas said it had accepted a proposal from Egyptian and Qatari mediators over the Israel-Gaza conflict.

The Israeli official said the proposal that Hamas had accepted was a "softened" version of an Egyptian proposal, which included "far-reaching" conclusions that Israel could not accept.

"This would appear to be a ruse intended to make Israel look like the side refusing a deal," said the Israeli official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Hamas is still standing, I doubt BB will take anything less than HAMAS being wiped out. I wouldn’t negotiate with those terrorists. When this is all over, the people in GAZA who survive should either leave the area or overthrow whatever is left of HAMAS if possible. Scorched earth is the only way to deal with radicalized terrorists, IMHO.

Hamas is literally playing Russian Roulette with their own people. The USA can’t really do anything but get in the way.

Much of the Israeli people put getting the hostages back first. At this point I think it's all about priorities.

US withholds 3200 bombs scheduled to be delivered to Israel. Believes they may be used in GAZA. Report due in congress today on whether Israel violated INTL law.

Yes, many were the 2000 lb. bombs that were discussed earlier. The kind that destroy everything within a 1000 foot radius. The U.S wants more precision strikes that don't indiscriminately kill so many civilians.

It won’t stop the war. Maybe a call for International war crime tribunals for both Hamas and Israel leaders is in order.

I don't think it's the motive or goal of this administration or people like myself to stop the war. I think most agree that Hamas needs to be wiped out. What I think people get confused over is that you can support the overall goal and a nations people while not supporting some of the methods their government uses to achieve that goal. We live in modern times with many advancements in weaponry. Strategic, targeted strikes with huge imitations to civilian casualties is easily achievable. Allowing humanitarian aid to the citizens of Gaza is also easily achieved.

Some people think that saying, "Yeah, but we're less evil than the terrorists" is enough. But I'm not sure how slowly starving women and children make you all that much better. The fact that I don't support the way Netanyahu is handling this situation lines up with many Israeli's in fact. They believe he has put the war ahead of getting the hostages out..............

Not to mention his undermining of Israels Supreme Court.

Israel says it reopened a key Gaza crossing after a rocket attack but the UN says no aid has entered

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military said Wednesday that it has reopened its Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza after days of closure, but the U.N. said no humanitarian aid has yet entered and there is no one to receive it on the Palestinian side after workers fled during Israel’s military incursion in the area.

The Kerem Shalom crossing between Gaza and Israel was closed over the weekend after a Hamas rocket attack killed four Israeli soldiers nearby, and on Tuesday, an Israeli tank brigade seized the nearby Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, forcing its closure. The two facilities are the main terminals for entry of food, medicine and other supplies essential for the survival of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million Palestinians.

The Israeli foray did not appear to be the start of the full-scale invasion of the city of Rafah that Israel has repeatedly promised. But aid officials warn that the prolonged closure of the two crossings could cause the collapse of aid operations, worsening the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the U.N. says a “full-blown famine” is already underway in the north.

The United States paused a shipment of bombs to Israel last week over concerns that Israel was approaching a decision on launching a full-scale assault on Rafah, in a further widening of divisions between the two close allies.

The U.S. says it is concerned over the fate of around 1.3 million Palestinians crammed into Rafah, most of whom fled fighting elsewhere. Israel says Rafah is Hamas’ last stronghold and that a wider offensive there is needed to dismantle the group’s military and governing capabilities.

The U.S., Egypt and Qatar are meanwhile ramping up efforts to close the gaps in a possible agreement for at least a temporary cease-fire and the release of some of the scores of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas. Israel has linked the threatened Rafah operation to the fate of those negotiations. CIA chief William Burns, who has been shuttling around the region for talks on the cease-fire deal, met Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a U.S. official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss closed-door negotiations.

With the seizure of Rafah, Israel now controls all of Gaza’s crossings for the first time since it withdrew troops and settlers from the territory nearly two decades ago, though it has maintained a blockade with Egypt’s cooperation for most of that time. The Rafah crossing has been a vital conduit for humanitarian aid since the start of the war and is the only place where people can enter and exit. Kerem Shalom is Gaza’s main cargo terminal.

U.N. World Food Program deputy executive director Carl Skau told The Associated Press that the U.N, agency has lost access to its Gaza food warehouse in Rafah, which he said was “communicated as a no-go zone.”

“We understand that it’s still there, but we are extremely worried of looting,” Skau said during a visit to neighboring Lebanon, adding that a U.N. logistics warehouse in Rafah had already been looted. He said the WFP was able to secure a warehouse in Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza, but has not stocked it with food yet.

Associated Press journalists heard sporadic explosions and gunfire in the area of the Rafah crossing overnight, including two large blasts early Wednesday. The Israeli military reported six launches from Rafah toward the Kerem Shalom crossing on Tuesday.

COGAT, the Israeli military body in charge of Palestinian civilian affairs, said the Kerem Shalom crossing reopened early Wednesday and released video of what it said were aid trucks entering the 1-kilometer-long (half-mile) area of the crossing. The video then showed their cargo being unloaded. Typically, Palestinian drivers from the other side of the crossing must pick up the aid after it is unloaded and drive it to distribution destinations within Gaza. The video did not show the aid being picked up.

Juliette Touma, the director of communications for UNRWA, said no aid had entered as of late afternoon Wednesday and that the U.N. agency had been forced to ration fuel, which is imported through Rafah.

Gaza’s Health Ministry meanwhile said at least 46 patients and wounded people who had been scheduled to leave Tuesday for medical treatment have been left stranded.

U.N. agencies and aid groups have ramped up humanitarian assistance in recent weeks as Israel has lifted some restrictions and opened an additional crossing in the north under pressure from the United States, its closest ally.

But aid workers say the closure of Rafah, which is the only gateway for the entry of fuel for trucks and generators, could have severe repercussions, and the U.N. says northern Gaza is already in a state of “full-blown famine.”

Skau of the WFP said some food has been delivered to the north in recent weeks.

“When we got up there, people were coming out of the rubble extremely weak, not even able to carry the box of food,” he said, adding that an increase in infectious diseases among children could worsen the crisis in the north.

“It’s that combination of widespread disease and acute malnutrition that is that deadly cocktail,” he said.

COGAT said 60 aid trucks entered through the northern crossing on Tuesday. Some 500 trucks entered Gaza every day before the war.

The war began when Hamas militants breached Israel’s defenses on Oct. 7 and swept through nearby army bases and farming communities, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting another 250. Hamas is still believed to be holding around 100 hostages and the remains of more than 30 others after most of the rest were released during a November cease-fire.

The war has killed over 34,800 Palestinians, according to Gaza health officials, and has driven some 80% of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million Palestinians from their homes. Israel’s military campaign has been one of the deadliest and most destructive in recent history, reducing large parts of Gaza to rubble.

Biden has repeatedly warned Netanyahu against launching an invasion of Rafah. But Netanyahu’s far-right coalition partners have threatened to bring down his government if he calls off an offensive or makes too many concessions in the cease-fire talks.

The U.S. has historically provided Israel enormous amounts of military aid, which has only accelerated since the start of the war.

The paused shipment was supposed to consist of 1,800 2,000-pound (900-kilogram) bombs and 1,700 smaller ones, with the U.S. concern focused on how the larger bombs could be used in a dense urban setting, a U.S. official said Tuesday on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter. The official said no final decision had been made yet on proceeding with the shipment.

I would like to remind you that Netanyahu said there would be a plan for the civilian evacuation of Rafah back in February......................

Netanyahu Orders Military to Plan for Civilian Evacuations of Rafah

It appears that plan was to tell them to get the hell out.

Why are you reminding me? I’ve heard and seen what’s going on. I’m glad Biden stopped shipping these bombs. The USA shouldn’t be supporting either side, except in humanitarian support. It’s their stupid holy wars causing death and destruction to each other for centuries. Pffft religion.

Netanyahu says deadly Israeli strike in Rafah was the result of a ‘tragic mishap’

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that a “tragic mishap” was made in an Israeli strike in the southern Gaza city of Rafah that set fire to a camp housing displaced Palestinians and, according to local officials, killed at least 45 people.

The strike only added to the surging international criticism Israel has faced over its war with Hamas, with even its closest allies expressing outrage at civilian deaths. Israel insists it adheres to international law even as it faces scrutiny in the world’s top courts, one of which last week demanded that it halt the offensive in Rafah.

Netanyahu did not elaborate on the error. Israel’s military initially said it had carried out a precise airstrike on a Hamas compound, killing two senior militants. As details of the strike and fire emerged, the military said it had opened an investigation into the deaths of civilians.

Sunday night’s attack, which appeared to be one of the war’s deadliest, helped push the overall Palestinian death toll in the war above 36,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between fighters and noncombatants in its tally.

“Despite our utmost efforts not to harm innocent civilians, last night there was a tragic mishap,” Netanyahu said Monday in an address to Israel’s parliament. “We are investigating the incident and will obtain a conclusion because this is our policy.”

Mohammed Abuassa, who rushed to the scene in the northwestern neighborhood of Tel al-Sultan, said rescuers “pulled out people who were in an unbearable state.”

“We pulled out children who were in pieces. We pulled out young and elderly people. The fire in the camp was unreal,” he said.

At least 45 people were killed, according to the Gaza Health Ministry and the Palestinian Red Crescent rescue service. The ministry said the dead included at least 12 women, eight children and three older adults, with another three bodies burned beyond recognition.

In a separate development, Egypt’s military said one of its soldiers was shot dead during an exchange of fire in the Rafah area, without providing further details. Israel said it was in contact with Egyptian authorities, and both sides said they were investigating.

An initial investigation found that the soldier had responded to an exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants, Egypt’s state-owned Qahera TV reported. Egypt has warned that Israel’s incursion in Rafah could threaten the two countries’ decades-old peace treaty.

The U.N. Security Council scheduled an emergency closed meeting for Tuesday afternoon on the situation in Rafah at the request of Algeria, the Arab representative on the council, two council diplomats told The Associated Press ahead of an official announcement.

Rafah, the southernmost Gaza city on the border with Egypt, had housed more than a million people — about half of Gaza’s population — displaced from other parts of the territory. Most have fled once again since Israel launched what it called a limited incursion there earlier this month. Hundreds of thousands are packed into squalid tent camps in and around the city.

Elsewhere in Rafah, the director of the Kuwait Hospital, one of the city’s last functioning medical centers, said it was shutting down and that staff members were relocating to a field hospital. Dr. Suhaib al-Hamas said the decision was made after a strike killed two health workers Monday at the entrance to the hospital.

Netanyahu says Israel must destroy what he says are Hamas’ last remaining battalions in Rafah. The militant group launched a barrage of rockets Sunday from the city toward heavily populated central Israel, setting off air raid sirens but causing no injuries.

The strike on Rafah brought a new wave of condemnation, even from Israel’s strongest supporters.

The U.S. National Security Council said in a statement that the “devastating images” from the strike on Rafah were “heartbreaking.” It said the U.S. was working with the Israeli military and others to assess what happened.

French President Emmanuel Macron was more blunt, saying “these operations must stop” in a post on X. “There are no safe areas in Rafah for Palestinian civilians. I call for full respect for international law and an immediate ceasefire,” he wrote.

The Foreign Office of Germany, which has been a staunch supporter of Israel for decades, said “the images of charred bodies, including children, from the airstrike in Rafah are unbearable.”

“The exact circumstances must be clarified, and the investigation announced by the Israeli army must now come quickly,” the ministry added. ”The civilian population must finally be better protected.”

Qatar, a key mediator in attempts to secure a cease-fire and the release of hostages held by Hamas, said the Rafah strike could “complicate” talks, Negotiations, which appear to be restarting, have faltered repeatedly over Hamas’ demand for a lasting truce and the withdrawal of Israeli forces, terms Israeli leaders have publicly rejected.

The Israeli military’s top legal official, Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, said authorities were examining the strike in Rafah and that the military regrets the loss of civilian life.

Speaking to an Israeli lawyers’ conference, Tomer-Yerushalmi said Israel has launched 70 criminal investigations into possible violations of international law, including the deaths of civilians, the conditions at a detention facility holding suspected militants and the deaths of some inmates in Israeli custody. She said incidents of property crimes and looting were also being examined.

Israel has long maintained it has an independent judiciary capable of investigating and prosecuting abuses. But rights groups say Israeli authorities routinely fail to fully investigate violence against Palestinians and that even when soldiers are held accountable, the punishment is usually light.

Israel has denied allegations of genocide brought against it by South Africa at the International Court of Justice. Last week, the court ordered Israel to halt its Rafah offensive, a ruling it has no power to enforce.

Separately, the chief prosecutor at the International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as three Hamas leaders, over alleged crimes linked to the war. The ICC only intervenes when it concludes that the state in question is unable or unwilling to properly prosecute such crimes.

Israel says it does its best to adhere to the laws of war. Israeli leaders also say they face an enemy that makes no such commitment, embeds itself in civilian areas and refuses to release Israeli hostages unconditionally.

Hamas triggered the war with its Oct. 7 attack into Israel, in which Palestinian militants killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and seized some 250 hostages. Hamas still holds about 100 hostages and the remains of around 30 others after most of the rest were released during a cease-fire last year.

Around 80% of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have fled their homes. Severe hunger is widespread, and U.N. officials say parts of the territory are experiencing famine.

They're already starving innocent civilians and now they're bombing them..... again too.

Israels response? "Oops, my bad."

Israeli opposition leader Benny Gantz announced he is resigning from the country’s emergency government on Sunday.

Gantz said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is making “total victory impossible” and said the country must prioritize returning the hostages “above political survival,” The Associated Press reported.

Gantz, a centrist leader and a former military chief, joined Netanyahu’s War Cabinet in the immediate aftermath of Hamas’s Oct. 7 attacks, in a striking show of national unity.

He has grown more critical of Netanyahu in the eight months since forming the emergency government, and, three weeks ago, he threatened to resign from his post if Netanyahu’s government did not adopt a new plan for the end of the war in Gaza. At the time, he set June 8 as his deadline.

“If you choose the path of fanatics and lead the entire nation to the abyss — we will be forced to quit the government,” Gantz said at the time, referring to members of Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition as “fanatics.”

The announcement comes a day after Israeli forces rescued four hostages in the largest such mission since the war began.

The female hostage was being held by an Al Jazer reporter and a Doctor in Gaza. You know the same innocent civilians you heart keeps bleeding for. The reporter was holding an Israeli hostage and reporting how many civilians were being killed in Gaza. That is rich. Then suckers like yourself bite on that info like a big ole dumb bass!!!

I, too would like to read this for myself.

I mean, that's some big news. It should be all over the papers, but I'll confess- I can't keep up with everything.
Anyway, it should be easy enough for the poster who asserts these facts to provide some receipts to the community. I mean, after all- said poster's response was to another poster who actually linked his source- in compliance with DT's rules of the board.

More info is a good thing, in this case.
I would very much like to read this info for myself.

Perhaps hearts and minds could/would be changed.

He wrote a column for Al Jazeera in 2019, but they say he was never an employee. He was a verified employee for the Palestine Chronicle. See the link.

Not sure about the doctor yet.

https://nypost.com/2024/06/09/world...e-with-his-family-israeli-military-says/

Even if you retract that article above and it turned out everything in DotD's post was true, I don't think it changes the dynamic. I think it was already fairly certain that Hamas was using the population as human shields, which is among the most despicable things one can do. Surely some among the population are also aiding and abetting this construct. But it also remains true that there are innocents involved as well. It is not entirely a population of terrorists. The two dynamics just mentioned are not mutually exclusive.

When it comes to the situation itself, does Hamas use the civilian population as a human shield? Yes. Does this create a very difficult situation for Israel? Yes, of course. Has Israel still been reckless at times, sometimes grossly reckless, in its tactics anyhow? Also yes. I don't think his assertions really do anything to change that level of consistency we've had in the aftermath of October 7th.

From the article you posted….. “Following checks by the IDF and the Shin Bet, it can be confirmed that [journalist] Abdullah al-Jamal was an operative of the Hamas terrorist organization, who kept the hostages Almog Meir, Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv in his family home in Nuseirat,” the military said in a statement posted to X. also …”the news that an Al Jazeera journalist was harboring one of the captives is completely false. The individual in question who was killed in the raid along with his family was, at one point, a freelance journalist. He has never worked for Al Jazeera Arabic or English. He is certainly not in any way, shape, or form an Al Jazeera Journalist,” wrote Khan, according to i24NEWS.

Hamas is paying Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip up to 70 shekels ($19) a day to watch over Israeli hostages taken on Oct. 7, a freed captive reported last week.”

When you believe everything you are being spoon fed from Bibi then call someone else a dumb ass is tells more about you than it does me. I mean if you want to talk about being a sucker.

I reported that someone inside his own emergency government, who I'm pretty sure knows more than you do had to say. But yes, keep ignoring that. What I posted was true. The man resigned and that was his statement. Now go back to your survival shelter.

You do realize that I'm not the only one who made comments back to you, right? That far right wing, extremist cesspool you are drowning in is much worse than any pond I may be swimming in.

Maybe you can address the posters who poked holes in your story? I didn't think so.

Maybe you can address the posters who poked holes in your story? I didn't think so.

When the story first came out it said Al Jazeera. Now they are saying he was a reporter but not Al Jezera. So, he is still media and another person that held that woman hostage was a doctor in Gaza. Poke holes all you want. Truth is Gazan citizens are participating in these hostages' captivities. Isael is telling people to get out before they bomb areas. What else can they do???? You don't have answers you just spew anti sematic talking points. Makes me sick. The facts are this.

1) Israel is not committing a genocide. Facts are that Palestinian people's populations have increased since 1948. If Israel wanted to commit genocide they really could have. They did not.
2)Palestinians put a terrorist organization in place to represent them. That terrorist organization did what they do and committed atrocities in Israel on Oct 7th.
3)Israel is at war vs Hamas and will not stop until Hamas is eliminated. By the way the world will be a better place when Hamas is not in it.
4)From the river to the sea is a quote being said by left wing organizations and that quote is a quote promoting genocide of the Jewish people.

I would not expect you to understand because you supported American citizens chanting to kill policeman during our won terror organizations antifa and BLM riots of 2020.

What is so typical by people such as yourself is you love to take isolated cases and use it as a broad brush. And then also twisting everything I've said out of context. But then you have great teachers.

I've stood up for not indiscriminately bombing civilian neighborhoods because you are killing tens of thousands of innocent women and children.

I've railed against cutting off food and medical supplies to starve innocent women and children.

Do you have any stories about women and children holding hostages? Because if not this isn't related to anything I've been saying. But I'm not surprised by that.

It looks like i need to remind you again that Hamas has not allowed an election in 16 years as well.

And claiming I support people that are antisemitic is a flat out lie. But I'm not surprised by that either.

Why do you keep making up lies? I plainly stated everyone involved in those riots who committed a crime should be arrested and convicted.

You sure make up a lot of lies for someone who quotes scripture in their sig.

Are you not a liberal?
Did you not support BLM?
You have expressed over and over again that your anti-Israel.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, then is have no choice but to see you as a duck.

In the old days before you had to either be totally MAGA or you're a liberal they called that being a moderate.

I support their message that black people should not be targeted by the police. But since you refuse to look at the facts, the riots and looting happened after those marches were over, at night. Not during the BLM marches during the day. I plainly stated on this very board more than once that any person who engaged in criminal activity should be arrested and prosecuted for their crimes. It's the same as I've said about Jan. 6th. Not everyone who went to the trump rally that day stormed the capital. I'm not trying to lump them all in together as criminals the way you are about those who marched in the BLM marches. Those who did storm the capital and committed crimes should be convicted of those crimes. Exactly the same way those who committed crimes after the BLM marches should be.

That's called consistency. Something that you now wish to label as a liberal viewpoint.

Once again you lie. I have stood up for innocent women and children. If standing up for reducing the amount of deaths among women and children, and not cutting off aid to starve them is anti-Israel, it say a lot more about Israel than it does me.

Do you have any stories about women and children holding hostages?

Aljamal’s death was originally reported by Rami Abdu, the head of the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, who claimed Israel Defense Forces soldiers raided the journalist’s home and killed him and several members of his family.

What does that have to do with the women and children in his home holding them hostage? Some people have no bounds of how far they will go in justifying the slaughter and slow starvation of innocent women, children and elderly people. Hamas is evil. Trying to portray the civilian population as being just like Hamas is disgusting.

You asked for an example, I gave one. Now you say I’m making disgusting excuses? Get off, your horse is high.

Ok even if I was making an excuse which I wasn’t, are you trying to say the women and children in that home didn’t know they had hostages living with them? I’ve read reports Hamas is paying families in Gaza $20 a day to hold hostages. So there’s that too. Not excuses, facts.

Are you saying they should have risked their own life to try and report it? What you've shown, and all you've shown is that they were in the house where a hostage was held. I'm sure you understand the difference in being where a hostage is held and holding someone hostage no matter how hard you try and pretend otherwise.

So you are saying the family members didn’t know. GMAB and Yes a family member should have reported it. Maybe they’d be alive now. Geez. Who’s the one making excuse's for terrorists? I’m sorry I know how you hate the BiBi government and not the Israelis people in general, but they didn’t start this while you make excuses for what you call innocent families in Gaza are now proven to be involved with holding hostages.

What part of this are you missing? You are claiming that them knowing a hostage was there means they were holding someone hostage themselves? The guilty party is the person or people that were holding the hostage. The only thing you have proven, or anyone has proven to this point is that they were in the same location where the hostage was being held. Anything more than that you are trying to make out of it is a figment of your imagination.

I'm fully aware that Hamas started this entire thing on October 7th. The only things I've said about Netanyahu are quite clear. You can't use 2000lb. dumb bombs that destroy everything within 1000 feet in every direction then claim you aren't targeting innocent civilians. Basic math tells you that isn't true. And secondly, slowly starving the civilians of Gaza is inhumane. Now unless you think starving women, children and the elderly is humane that one is pretty basic too.

Who started it won't change Netanyahu's response. If the guy next door kills three of my family members the proper response will never be to blow up his home killing his entire family for his actions.

Um…. yes. Accomplices to terrorizing and holding hostages is a crime. Hence dead..dead…dead. They are dead. Good riddance.

Yes, including their children. Because we all know their children were holding someone hostage. It's the Israeli way.

Claiming women and children are terrorists isn't either.

Not so much young children but sure women and teenagers know what’s going on. They’re involved no doubt.
