Mac, not only did the FO think Jedrick Wills Jr was better than Tristan Wirfs Joe Thomas and Bill Callahan spoke highly of Wills.
As others already pointed out, Wirfs played RT his entire career. It boiled down to which RT was better Jedrick from Alabama or Tristan from Iowa. At the time, Alabama was turning out good NFL OL players.

Just a note to remind everyone...Tristan Wirfs was available for the Browns at #10 in the 2020 draft...BUT, the "Browns Brain Trust"...applied one of their fictional "golden guardrails"...that "tackles are tackles"...
...In the 2020 draft, Browns had their choice of OTs with the #10 pick after the Giants choose OT Andy Thomas with their #4 draft pick. Having his choice of the remaining OT talent, Andrew Berry, Browns GM, passed on Tristan Wirfs out of Iowa and the Browns analytics brain trust drafted RT Jed Wills out of Bama to fill the Browns needs at LT.
To date: Tristan Wirfs is a 3 time Pro Bowl OT, a 1 time All Pro OT and a 1 time Super Bowl Champ OT and currently filling the Tampa Bay needs at LT for years to come.
The Browns are left with Jed Wills at LT..."tackles are tackles" according to Andy Berry, Browns GM. Just a note to remind you that you've already told us this... 2,359 times. Give the Nostradamus charade a break though: Re: Browns select Jedrick Wills with the 10th overall pickI like the pick, welcome to Cleveland, Jed.
I have to give the Browns GM, Andrew Berry, an 'A' for resisting all the crazy scenarios about trading out of the #10 spot, trading down to gain more draft picks (aka, moneyball) and taking one of the lesser OTs, such as Izra Cleveland.
The Browns had a need and addressed it..what more could a Browns fan want?

The main reason to post was to discuss football.
IMO politics has spoiled the milk. Now there are lots of trading insults.
Bad timing because we have a good football team. The Guardians are kicking butt. The Cav's are worth watching.
Discussion seems to be a thing of the past.

Obviously still some great posters here, but as far as football news and talk, we're down to just a few doing the heavy lifting (I appreciate you guys). Wish I knew what happened to cfrs15, he just threw in the towel directly after that horrible Jets comeback a couple years back. I miss Vers as well, we definitely had a love/hate but it wasn't that hard to overlook the negatives when he would talk football without getting all bent with every alternative pov. Speaking for myself, I'm kinda in "show me" mode now. The DW saga has been exhausting. Sick of the talk, year after year, let's go out and get it done. Oh well, it is what it is. I'm sure we'll see a big spike soon, I mean, it's actually game time now.

I remember cfrs! And vers, of course. He gave me an FU once in a pm but I didn’t hold it against him. I thought he was great with his football acumen.
Back to football: Apparently DTR has looked sharp in his second training camp.

cfrs abruptly went missing about two years ago - probably after that jet loss that was mentioned
I haven't heard from Vers in a WHILE. Not sure what he's up to
I've been absent (I usually take the time from the draft to TC to get away from it)
But I'm itching for the season now

Verse also gave me an FU and got very tough guy in a DM to me. I was under the impression he was, er, shown the door some time ago. Not sure if true. He did know football. I won’t say anything else as he’s not here to defend himself.
I stepped away for a few years at one point. It happens. It’ll happen again when I get busy. Natural for anyone.

I clicked on that link and started reading the thread. A lot of posters I had forgotten about in there. This place is kind of a wasteland compared to what it used to be. Two things: Posters have always left the board for various reasons. Nothing unusual there. The draft threads have historically drawn the most posts. Especially when we weren't very good and every player we drafted brought undue hope. I mean, whatever happened to Deke Dawg, Iambrown, Thomfran and Dr. Flotsam? A few names from years ago?

IN spades ... whether posters want to say he's been a good acquisition or a bad acquisition at this point is moot. Show me what we have in 2024-2025. It's as simple as that. Can't wait for September but happy to soak up some August sunshine before then and not try to speculate on what we will see on the field until we see it.

I agree. There haven't been many changes to the team, so there isn't much different to discuss.

DTR is feeling pretty good, Tony Fields is out of his walking boot, Mo Hurst is eager to get to the regular season. I talked to all three last night

good info GM .. I've heard the same about DTR from a handful of people. That he is really a good QB

I won’t say anything else as he’s not here to defend himself. I don't really have anything bad to say about Vers. We used to go round and round on the board but we met in person for lunch in Nashville and he was a very pleasant person. We got along fine. As often is the case the persona one presents on the internet is not the same person you will meet in real life. As to the story of him leaving it is my understanding he sort of announced his departure and actually asked PPE to ban him for life. Since he had done nothing to be banned for life PPE refused to comply with his request and he hasn't been back since. There may be more updates and details that have happened since then that I'm unaware of but that's the last details I had involving the situation.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I met Vers once too and felt the same thing Pit. I think he got emotional behind the keyboard and would get worked up. But in person he was pretty easy going

it is my understanding he sort of announced his departure and actually asked PPE to ban him for life. Since he had done nothing to be banned for life PPE refused to comply with his request and he hasn't been back since. I try to avoid discussing anyone else's accounts, but since it is a topic of conversation here, this is correct. Without going into any drama/detail, he requested his account be banned, I told him no and pointed out that he is perfectly capable of just not logging in if he doesn't want to be here, and that's where it lays currently. cfrs - I haven't seen in a while, and may have actually left because of Vers; I don't know. It's a shame he isn't here now. Iambrown is around on Facebook, but hasn't been here since like 2016. I don't recall the Why. Diam is a name that is missed around here as well.... we just need another Golden Domer at QB and he'll be back OverToad - I don't recall seeing him this recently, but he was last here in '22.

Do you mean to tell me they decided to work the trade out with the 49'ers first before asking Aiyuk if he would play there or working or a deal with Aiyuk? They are risking great embarrassment by following the NFL rules on this.

They are risking great embarrassment by following the NFL rules on this. They would have to work a deal before. The Niners don't have to trade the guy. If the Niners don't like the compensation, the deal doesn't happen. I know you typed in purple, so I am not totally sure how to take your comment. We might be in total agreement.

Do you honestly believe that the Steelers didn't contact Aiyuk about his desire to play for the Steelers...?
Aiyuk already informed the Browns and the Patriots he wasn't interested in playing for those teams.

Personally, I think it was the Browns conditioning staff that caused him to not want to be here. Don't you? I mean, the Browns don't do the high school mac workout.

It may have been the IT staff. I heard he showed up to see the workout tapes and the VCR chewed up the recording.

Sashi is part of the irony in this. The former complaints were about him/his staff not spending cap money, saving draft picks, not bringing in people, not trying to win games, etc. X amount of years later, it's "embarrassing" b/c our current FO is putting their foot into the ring to try for some big time players to better the team. They are telling the NFL, their own players, the fans - we are serious about making this team better in any way possible. THAT is supposedly embarrassing You are going to win some, you are going to lose some, however I have faith in this FO and coaching staff. They will do whatever it takes to put out the best product on the field for now and the future.

I agree .. we are built to win right now. With the roster, moves we've made, players in their prime
But for whatever reason I just don't like the vibe of this training camp

Absolutely agree, and I understood that at the time. I should have been clear. I was alluding to Mac's complaints back then about not spending and now basically saying the opposite: it's embarrassing about the FO trying to bring in another big piece.
