On Friday, he went to a shooting range where he was a member, and practiced firing, a law enforcement official told CNN. The next morning, Crooks went to a Home Depot, where he bought a five-foot ladder, and a gun store, where he purchased 50 rounds of ammunition, the official said.

Then, Crooks drove his Hyundai Sonata about an hour north, joining thousands of people from around the region who flocked to Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He parked the car outside the rally, with an improvised explosive device hidden in the trunk that was wired to a transmitter he carried, the official said. Then, investigators believe, he used his newly-bought ladder to scale a nearby building, and opened fire on the former president.

It’s unclear how Crooks assembled the explosive devices found in his car. Investigators parsing through his online search history haven’t found any indication of him researching how to make home-made explosives, law enforcement officials said.

The shooter’s parents, who have been cooperating with law enforcement since the shooting, have told investigators that Crooks did not appear to have friends and did not appear to have any political leanings, a law enforcement official told CNN. But they didn’t seem to know much about what was going on in his life recently, law enforcement sources said.

Not doubting the reports, but it is too early in the investigation to have a great picture of the events, and the influencing factors. A final report will be interesting, especially in light of what appears to be break downs and failures in the protection.

At the risk of being cringe-worthy, I'll be cringe-worthy. I've hesitated to do it from the beginning because I cringe when others do. I'll preface with, I'm obviously not the sharpest tack in the medicine cabinet.

BUT.

It takes merely a glance at this site to see that there has to be someone stationed on the roof of this building. That's not MMQB, that's simple common sense. You don't even have to be a security expert. If I were in charge of surveying the site before hand, it would have been one of the first things to come out of my mouth.

Go ahead and google "Butler Farm Show" and hit maps or directions. Look at this site from a few different perspectives. If not for this building, security was a literal walk in the park. Making the building the elephant in the room. Every other building that's tall enough for perspective has trees in the way! How did this happen?

I've wrestled with "overworked and understaffed", I've wrestled with communication problems. I've told myself it's easy to play devil's advocate after-the-fact. I've reminded myself that people become complacent, because 99.9% of the time nothing happens. None of that matters given the size of this elephant.


Then... I read the above article:

"A source familiar with the investigation told CNN that snipers were stationed inside the building. The local sniper team, which hailed from the Butler County Emergency Services Unit, was located on the second floor providing overwatch of the crowd at the rally, the source said."

You put a team of snipers inside the building and still put nobody on the roof??? What in God's green $%^$ are these people thinking?


Somebody that knows way more about security please tell me what the hell I'm missing here.

Actually, the way the top and bottom pictures blend together it looks like a 620 foot ladder. 🤣

They couldn’t put anyone on the roof because it was sloped. It was a safety issue. That supposedly came out of the mouth of the SS director.

100% b.s. copout. The slope of that roof is not unlike the slope of my yard on the way to the mailbox. Goggle it, you can actually walk the perimeter of the building.

Besides that, the place looks like a conglomeration of 10 different buildings, many with all-but-flat roofs. If they were so afraid super-secret-agent-dude would fall down and get a boo boo, put the DEI hire on a flat part of the roof and leave him on the phone with his mom so she can talk him through it.

I didn’t believe she said that. The slope of that roof is less than the slope of the roof the snipers were on. They also knew he was there for over a minute. I want to say 1:46 but I’m not positive. With the SS not talking now this is how conspiracy theories start.

That's a steeper slope than any building in that conglomerated mess the shooter was on. And the more I look at that mess, the more anyone with a shred of intellect (even me) can see that all the different levels would offer any shooter a decent amount of cover until he made the final journey to his "spot".

Abject failure. Such a ridiculous fail that it's hard to begrudge anyone that asks the question. Yes, that question.

That roof looked to be a 2/12 or 3/12 at best. You can walk on that roof with little danger.

It's a clown show for sure. And She is one of the worst of the clown shows - for lots and lots of reasons. But they didn't try to say being shot to covid is exactly the same... that's only in hater world and hater echo chambers.

Facts are facts.....BUT, we don't know the exact/ and may never know the who, what, where, when, why, and how? Who saw the guy when and what did they do? As reported before- the 12 man "county township cops had "outside perimeter" "duties"- how much training they got covering President's? The Director of SS already has stated- "they" made a decision NOT to have someone on that roof- inside, nice and comfortable yes/ on roof no.......20/20 hindsight- dumb as dirt.

I have to agree, there is something wrong with this entire situation. I'm know that I"m not the first to ask, but HOW did this kid walk up to that building carrying an AR-15 with NOBODY in the SS and State Police or a citizen seeing him and calling him out.

Looking at the overhead photos of that area and seeing how the two locations are situated and it just looks impossible to NOT have seen him.

I have no idea how this will shake out, but it's questionable.

They were claiming Joe dealing with Covid showed he was "strong" - as in not decrepit and frail and looking and sounding like he's 95. They said republicans took Trump bouncing back from being shot as being strong ... and Biden dealing with Covid made him strong too.

Those sentiments do not equate to Biden having Covid is akin to having been shot like Trump. I get it - the difference might be too subtle for you. But I was 100% right with my understanding of what was actually said in context versus what some like you choose to hear.
