Losing Callahan was amongst my biggest fears, and I'm worried there is fallout on that front. I hope the O is just getting its kinks out.

Based only on my experience it seems obvious to me that there are coaches that have the ability to get more out of a group of players as a whole than the sum of the groups parts. Each player has their own particular skills and weaknesses. Making the most of their skills while mitigating their weaknesses is an art form not every coach has. Based on my observations that's an ingredient Callahan had. We'll see if Dickerson has that same ability. But to be fair we'll have to wait until he has a similar lineup to work with. As of now the injuries make that hard to determine. But it's certainly a concern I share with others.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I'd be fine with holding out everyone from anything too taxing until the Seattle game .. and then again for the opener
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Ski’s presser today he said no starters will be playing Saturday There is nothing for those guys to prove. Those guys are set, and pretty much have been since the start of camp. The competition now is to see who is going to be 2nd and 3rd team players. Building the bottom of the roster is what this is all about. Winning isn't always about who has the best starters. Sometimes it is about who has the best reserves. It's a rare season where a started isn't knocked out of a game or two, if not a season. The teams that have reserves who can at least hold their own and do a respectable job are the teams with the best chance to win. Building the bottom of the roster is just as important as building the top.

Important for PS as well. We need to weed out some fodder. I still feel this may best roster in years potentially. Avoid other injuries as much as possible obviously.

I'm just really concerned about our OL ... we need to get that squared away (LT especially)
I'd take this next game and give all of the possibilities a look

Ski’s presser today he said no starters will be playing Saturday Obviously there is luck involved with injuries ... but the contrast to the KC Chiefs is stark here. Didn't the KC starters all play the first quarter of the first preseason game? Just makes you wonder ... or it makes me wonder.

Didn't the KC starters all play the first quarter of the first preseason game? Just makes you wonder ... or it makes me wonder. The Chiefs starters on O played 6 snaps. (They also lost Hollywood Brown to injury.) I'm pretty sure missing starting OL and having a starting QB coming back from injury were factors in Stefanski's decision. Ideally, everyone would be healthy and would see some snaps. Unfortunately, that's not where we find ourselves.

It does not make me wonder at all.
Coaches decision. Each roster is different. Different in make up, age, youth, experience, and coming back from injury.
However you prepare for the start of the season as long as you are ready. It does not matter.
We are trying to get ready for Dallas.

Hopefully it's one great defense and one team going against a mostly backup OL.
Third option: both are true. Two really dang good defenses, and two really trashy offenses.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

If our 0-line is healthy I still believe it’s a very good unit and by that I mean top10. Of course Wills and Conklin have to be well.

I will die on this hill, but not getting your starters meaningful reps in preseason is putting you behind all the teams that do. They need to get used to taking contact and running their playbooks when the games aren't against your teammates.. I get it, injuries.. they happen whether you play them or not. If you rest your starters and someone goes down first game.. what did you really gain. I know some of the better teams in the league play their starters some during preseason. Not sure if there's correlation or not, but I think there is

I'm all for opinion and I'm probably in the middle as far as preseason "work". But there is simply no real evidence to say we've been ill prepared for the season.
Stefanski era:
2020: The only season to even make a measly argument -- stomped by the Ravens in week 1 -- but then won the next 4 2021: Lost an instant classic to the Chiefs -- won the next 3 2022: Only the 17 points by the Jets in the 4th of week two kept us from 3-0 to start 2023: Wind taken from our sails in week two, Chubb's devastating injury and lost a close game in Pittsburgh. Beat week 1 and week 3 opponents by a combined 51-6
What am I missing besides "an ode to tradition"?
What I think:
We've become an org that players want to come play at. Even after they're gone they say we're a cut above. I think one of our commitments to players, especially starters, is that we're not going to put their careers in jeopardy during meaningless preseason games unless they're not getting it done in practice and in the classroom. Period. I could be wrong, but I really think this is one of the "guardrails" that doesn't show up on the sheet. You can yell and scream that it's soft or wrong, but I think starters get work because starters want work.

If you're not sending out your starting QB, then does it make sense to send out your starting pass-catchers?
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

fate makes a good point - we certainly make it a priority to put players in the best possible situation
they are give great facilities, treatment, scouting etc (above and beyond) they are given great care when it comes to managing injuries they aren't overused so they can prolong their careers

With the recent injuries in yesterday's game, I wonder if the Browns will re-think starting Watson against Seattle.

we may be forced to sit any body of consequence again - maybe not worth the risk

He should probably get used to playing a little sore with the state of the OL appearing as it does.

We as Browns fans should feel very fortunate that we have a capable backup like JW. I'm starting to get the feeling we may see him early in the season. I don't have much confidence in DW staying healthy especially with our LT situation.

Maybe his elbow is sore, or his coccyx, ankle or big toe. Try to think positive for a change. I’m more worried about our starting OTs.
