We do not know officially.
I expect DW to start. Maybe play two series.
I expect any fully healthy starters to play some except for Myles, Cooper, Bitonio and maybe a few more guys.

We need reps with the starters - even if it is just handing off and going through the process
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Personally, I'd be quite surprised if Watson starts.
Especially, after the media caught Watson off guard when they asked about him about starting after Stefanski revealed earlier he was going to start Watson and Watson responded by saying, "that's news to me." It was the next day Watson came out of practice with "general soreness." Stefanski has been wishy washy about Watson starting since his initial comments that Watson would play in the third preseason game. They weren't on the same page last year either regarding Watson's status to play.
We'll see.

We'll see. For someone as intelligent as Stefanski, how does this happen? He sticks to a schedule. Perhaps, the media asked the question between the time he made the decision/plan and he formally told the team the plan. Stefanski probably asked Watson something along the lines of "are you ready to play on Saturday?" Stefanski could have been being literal while Watson just took it as a question about his health. There's the plan and then there's adjusting the plan based on player health and other factors. Things happen. People change their minds. Watching other teams' projected starters get injured in games that don't count can add some doubt into the equation. In Cleveland, mountains seem to be made out of mole hills at times.

That’s not an explanation. The answer is it should never happen. You don’t share things with outsiders you don’t first discuss internally. This applies to all jobs, walks of life, etc.

So you have found yet another nit to pick.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I am disappointed. I wanted to see him play.
However, I defer to the head coach. He has the pulse and the full picture to make a decision from.
I don't think it is fair for someone like myself to pretend to know more than KS.
With that now being the case my interest in the game goes way down. Something to watch but little to gain from.
Two weeks and it all gets very real.
Overall I am uneasy about where the team is. Given what is available to fans. I have no clue. They have had the time to get ready. I can only hope they are ready.
I feel the defense will be really good. I have no idea about the offense.

I don't know what's going on with DW. I'm sure KS has a good reason not to play him, but I think by not playing tonight there is more pressure on DW to perform once the season starts. I wanted to see him play a game in our new O and see how it's working but that won't be happening. 1st game national TV at home against Dallas, Tom Brady's 1st game as an analyst. The whole country will be watching. Hope he's both physically AND mentally up to the task!! If not, there will be very heavy criticism by everyone. I wish DW well.

All well and good. But my butt is going to the home opener. I'm giving him NO room for "rust", "getting back into the groove of things" His ass needs to show up and show out. PROVE the contract.........not some "Oh, my arm is sore" b.s.
Dude needs to earn his contract in SOME way. Being suspended, then being hurt? Give some damn money back if you can't be an all star this year.

He’s never going to earn his contract. That ship has sailed. He was vastly overrated with the Texans.
The best the Browns can hope for is he stays healthy and is above average. Or is below average and gets hurt.
We have to count on Stefanski coaching his butt off and a strong defense and Watson just not screwing it up.
Who’s excited for the season!?

Oh, he's "sore", don't play me coach. I'm getting my money no matter what.
Dude better put up. As I said, I don't want to hear "rusty". Nah. Be a good quarterback, or don't. No excuses. You're getting your money, but there's a team involved as well, and a fan base. Sit you ass out all you want IF that's what you want. You go in? Be good. Don't suck.
I've had it with this guy.

Let's see... our opponents in week one...
With Trey Lance at QB.
The last time Dak took a preseason snap? 2019.

I don't think he was overrated with the Texans. That may have been true four years ago. He didn't even play during his last season as a Texan. He hasn't played a significant portion of any season since 2020. That's not me trying to predict what he will or won't do this season. It's simply to provide some context and that what you are basing your evaluation of him as a Texan is based on something he accomplished four seasons ago. One would hope you could understand why many are not quite as convinced he is the same now as he was four years ago.

yeah, this whole training camp/preseason has been shaky IMO. Nobody should feel comfortable going into week 1

100% fair to question what he has done as a Brown.
I still do not think when he played for the Texans he was overrated.
He was a top five quarterback.
Led the NFL in passing yards with 4,823 in 2020. Set Texans franchise record with 33 passing touchdowns in 2020. That is not overrated.
Both in college and with the Texans DW was a really good quarterback.

This not playing any starters is just plain dumb. We will be behind everyone that did. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a rash of injuries week one since that will be the first time any starters have taken contact

Maybe, maybe not. Our guys faced contact in the shared practice with the Vikings. Only QB's were exempt from hitting.

I would imagine having our first live reps against the Cowboys isn't ideal but there's nothing to do about it now

this has been an UGLY month for our team
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

why even bother making the trip to Seattle? I agree. If you’re that worried about injury just refuse to play the preseason games at all. This is so typical of Stefanski football. The team isn’t prepared to actually play football until week 4-5.
Who let the Dawgs out???

even though it's a mix of 1/2 stringers, it just seems like our team needs a kick in the butt

Browns defense was exposed by houston in playoff loss. Dorsey offensive system is based around throwing the ball unfortunately

Moore should strictly be a route runner -- he's pretty good at it. Not a gadget guy at all

DTR should be getting Winston’s reps. He has special moments and pedestrian moments. The pedestrian moments can be cleaned up with more/better reps. I’d rather DTR come in than Winston if Watson goes down.
In terms of the preseason, I don’t think anyone should care about what goes on in the game or the results when mostly backups are playing. The issue is the over babying in camp and the over protecting of starters from preseason games. I don’t really understand the philosophy.
Btw, the Seahawks announcers are insufferable.

There isn’t a single good thing this team has done whole preseason. But guess we can can look forward to Watson first pass pick 6 like last year because preseason is worthless supposedly

Crazy that a coach would kick a fg when he has another down to get the yards. What’s the point of scoring points when you can pretend to outsmart them and kick a fg

I want to see Tillman do it in real games. I do not see a scenario in which Tillman has more than 35 targets on the season barring injury. He had 44 last year and that was pre-Jeudy trade. He's so far down down on the depth chart and there are only so many balls to go around. Cooper>Njoku>Jeudy>Moore> RBs>Tillman/Bell/Thrash>Akins I anticipate 19 receptions for ~200 yards.

I think a few things might change that could work in Tillman’s favor.
1. We won’t have a running game. 2. There’s a chance he’s actually better than Moore right now so I’d swap those two in your rankings. I’m not high on Moore. 3. There’s a good chance Watson will get hurt. I see Tillman getting more targets from Winston and DTR. 4. Injury to Cooper or Jeudy.

Moore's biggest problem is we just don't use him. We put him in to run a gadget play. His first sighing of the preseason was running a reverse type play with resulted in no gain at best, probably a loss of 2-3 yards.

I woke up surprised the game ended that close - although we scored the ultimate garbage TD
Thrash/Woods/Tillman looked good ... the WR room is a strength IMO
Our secondary backups are putrid ... literally a 1999 Browns backup unit
Huntley will never play here again
Our run game is pathetic
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

His size screams gadget guy. But his skillset is more of an outside guy. He’s a walking contradiction that doesn’t really have a natural position in the NFL.

My only point is if you don't give the guys a chance, and put them in a position to succeed, you don't have any idea what you have. But in fairness, I would assume he gets some of those looks in practice.

Why.. just kick the damn thing Because it was preseason. The PERFECT time to try things you may NEED to do during the regular season depending on the situation. Reading this thread was hilarious. Preseason is the time to play players to decide who will be cut from the roster. It's the time to try things you may have to do during the regular season. You try going for it on fourth down. Then you see idiots say "Why didn't we go for the FG?" You practice the 2 point conversion and see people say, "Why didn't we just take the FG?" Watching such a huge overreaction by those who make this sound like it's our starters on the field and everything is doom and gloom is comedy gold.

I just watched the first half of the Seattle game and the Browns looked like a rag-tag football team.
I'm especially concerned about the performance of the Browns OLine. I realize most of the guys I'm watching are backups..2nd, 3rd and 4 th rounders..but they are playing against seattle's 2nd,3rd and 4th rounders and their backup team played so much better than the Browns. Seattle was well coached and had better players.
Hope the Browns play better in the second half...

Both Conklin and Wills will be returning for the regular season. One of a host of reasons that preseason is meaningless.

In the 2nd half, the Browns offense looked more composed with Huntley at QB than they did with DTR at QB. Can't be sure if it was planned or an optional choice by our QBs, but it looked as though DTR was changing the play at the LOS more often than Huntley.
DTR was trying to communicate those plays to the other players and the offensive line seemed to have difficulty communicating those changes with the other OLinemen. In short, the Browns offense looked unprepared and confused more when DTR changed plays at the LOS.
Huntley seemed to go with the called play and the OLine seemed less confused with Huntley playing QB.
Overall, the Browns offense seems to be be less prepared than the defense. New OC and new OLine coaches are likely part of the reason. Stefanski and his offensive coaching staff have a ton of work to do if they expect to win against the Cowboys.

I like that DTR changes plays at the line. He also goes through progressions and understands where pressure is coming from and where to get rid of the ball. Huntley is a one read QB, even against third stringers.
I will be pretty frustrated if DTR is traded.

For DTR? I don’t know.
Everyone has a price but in the context of the big picture of this season I think we will need him at some point. You cannot underscore how not good Huntley is. It’s like running PJ Walker back.
Probably my floor would be a 2nd and pray he doesn’t become a starter for the team I am trading him to.
I think I said this in a previous post, and this is not true for every late round pick, but in DTRs case the big difference between him and early round guys are those guys get more chances and more benefit of the doubt.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Everyone knows that nobody would ever offer a 2nd round pick for DTR. Probably not even a third. I mean the kid does show some tangibles that give hope for the future. But that's about it at this juncture. We've watched how the promise of potential has worked out here, or not worked out here as the case has been for the most part, far too often. And that's all it is at this point.
But when setting up an impossible scenario it leaves the door wide open to bash this FO if they take what most would consider a reasonable offer for DTR.
I would hope they hang on to DTR as well. But if the right option to trade him comes along It's not like they would be giving some proven starter away for peanuts.

No doubt. I said a couple days ago that Berry would probably budge for a 3rd. That would fall firmly between the guardrails of good business sense.
My real point is that a trade was never happening. Too many unknowns with Watson and the fact that we just value DTR differently. Other teams just look at the black and white and don't care about our gray. Our gray is that we're starting year three of a failed experiment and if things go further south, DTR could be the only way the window doesn't get slammed shut right in our face.
When this bs talk started that the Browns were "willing to trade" I read a few articles from other cities that may be interested. The cut-and-dried sentiment was "meh, why not, DTR hasn't really shown anything but nothing wrong with sending a late round pick for a flyer".

If a team were to offer a 2nd round pick or even a 3rd why wouldn't they just keep the pick and draft their own guy in the next draft? Possibly a QB that's physically more gifted?
