While looking at the AFC standings I see many teams under .500. If we beat the Chargers we’re not out of the playoff picture. I know we are 2-6, but still, where there is hope there’s a chance. Their OL isn’t very good, I watched their game on Sunday and they have a leaky line.
We might not have to win that many. there are a lot of afc teams with bad records. I just explained that in my prior post. I hate having to chew my cabbage twice. We need to win several, but not all.
True, lamp. Realistically tho', I see only 2 wins (Saints, Dolphins) left in a very difficult schedule. I'll be rooting for our team, but I just don't see it happening....

You are never out of it until the math says you are.
That said, let's just win the next one. Don't worry about odds. Just win the next one. Give it 4 weeks and we can revisit the topic.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
there's a slim chance .. but still a chance because the AFC is so top heavy
A win Sunday is imperative obviously
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
and I'd bet with a win this weekend we'd be around 92% no playoffs

If my math is correct,. we are 2.5 games out of the 7th playoff spot, behind still 4 more teams, and tied with 4 others.
Not ideal. An uphill climb. Whatta mess. Maybe about a 3% chance of making the playoffs.

we must beat: Chargers, Broncos, Bengals, Dolphins .. and then probably 2/3 of the Ravens/Steelers games

Well just remember, all you naysayers, we started 1-6 with QB play that was bad.

Sounds about right. Bengals could be a big one if we’re not out of it by then. Beat the Chargers, rest during the bye, beat a pathetic saints team and see how we do against Pitt.
the Jets go from being bottom feeders to talking about playoffs after one W (they are 3-6 now)

Didn't know exactly where to put this. In the 57 years I've been a fan we had our best teams when we had a viable running game. From Jim Brown, before my time, to Leroy Kelly, the Pruitt's, Byner and Mack and now Nick. The RB had been devalued the last 10 years or so, but teams are starting to use them more. I feel our Browns will be more effective with a solid run attack and then the play action off of it. With a healthy Nick, Foreman, Strong and Ford we have an above average RB room. It's still a passing league and with JW and the good group or WR's and TE's we have our O can really take off. We saw that this past Sunday.
I stand behind my belief that a quarterback has to win in the pocket.
That does not mean that mobility is a bad thing. You need enough mobility to scramble and run for first down on occasion.
When a quarterback can be effective in the pocket it benefits the entire offense. First the OL can sustain their blocks better and the ball should be out early when on time.
Play action adds to deception. In play action the quarterback turns his back to the defense. He can hide the ball. The play direction is unknown. Run or pass is unknown.
Play action on pass plays is all about timing to the route trees. Receivers can concentrate on their routes and can anticipate when the ball is coming. Running backs in play action usually have extra blockers with two TE's. In addition screens can be more effective as the running back pretends to block and then drifts to open area on blitzes.
IMO an offense must be multi-dimensional and deceptive.
I loved the offense that Brees ran in NO.
I want to get back to the offense we ran with Baker, Jacoby, and Flacco.
JW can play in that offense.
I think we need to be looking in the draft for the quarterback who can run that offense.
I agree. The offense that we saw last week is the offense that Winston can execute and our coaching staff is comfortable with

Truth™ It isn't zero chance, however it IS less than a 1% chance as of today. We currently have the lowest chance in the AFC to make the playoffs; even the Jags & Raiders technically have a (slightly) better chance.

sad that the JAGS have a better mathematical chance, and we beat them lol

I can officially say that we won't be in the playoffs

Technically, we could still get the #1 Seed. The Jags have been eliminated from the #1 & #2 Seeds, by the way, so they no longer have a "better" chance than us; but we both have less than a 1% chance. Once we lose on Thursday, we will be eliminated from the #1 thru #4 Seeds. Then, a loss the following week will potentially completely eliminate us, depending upon how the other games go. The week after eliminates us, almost for certain. We just need the top 7 teams to all have 8 wins and we're done, but Bye weeks are slowing that process a bit.
