It's coming back up. It looks like he put a 30 day pause on the tariffs with Mexico, which is right around the time the markets started rebounding. Sheinbaum apparently agreed to move 10K troops to the border and there will be negotiations between her administration and Rubio.
I guess we'll find out where things go...

Most "GOPers" don't post here anymore. They realize what a waste of time it is to argue with toddlers.
BTW, the market is down 48 points as we speak. President Trump has secured a promise from Mexico to send 10,000 troops to protect the border and those tariffs have been paused. Next is Trudeau, once he gets his head out of his a$$ and puts on his make up.

What? You GOP'ers never argue between yourselves. You don't post here anymore because the very things you were told trump would do and you denied, are happening right before your very eyes and you can't defend it. Don't blame us because all of you have turned into cowards and can't man up and own your mistakes.

i don't even mind. as you know, i've been investing since for a while now, and I get to take advantage of the dip/correction/recession even more than last time.
we all know if anything happens, the market is the first thing to get bailed out.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Yeah, like I mentioned we'll have to see where the tariffs go after they're actually implemented and see how long they last and/or what kind of negotiations take place.

Yep, the sky is falling. A typical over reaction.....great buying opportunities.....also, Canadian dollar- low of 22 years, maybe buy some of their money on the dip.
JMHO, I know Trump is a convicted felon....but he's sure spiced things up. I've VERY PLEASED with border and ICE raids- how does it make sense to issue drivers licences to illegal immigrants-- several dozen of our states do that--- WHY? if you are illegal, send them back to their country.....I'm all for LEGAL immigration....just don't come to us illegally. Foriegners have an OBLIGATION to Fix THEIR COUNTRIES....not expect free food and housing unlimitedly from our country.
Mexico sending 10,000 troops to border....GOOD, next Trump should ask about why Mexico allow unlimited mobility thru their country-- Mexician law requires visas, passport, etc.....why are Mexicans not enforcing their own laws.
I like questioning the unlimited aid we give people- I had no idea our tax dollars are spent in foriegn countries SUPPORTING their illegal transit to our borders....how stupid are we?
Another stupid situation-- we allow Chinese mothers to be to fly into US, give birth, fly back to China.....and their citizens have dual citizenship now----there are businesses on West Coast supporting these mothers and their NEW US citizens living in China....how STUPID is that? I had no idea. Trump and his followers are right in my opinion....born in US automatic citizenship......Supreme Court here we come---- I don't support any citizenship rights for any person supporting a different country than this one- PERIOD. I'm a former Republican now Independent. Peace to all. Each country has a right to fix problems- Trump has done far more GOOD so far the bad.....to his credit. JMHO.

I don't really know about the whole Chinese thing you're talking about, but it does appear the immigration stuff is a net positive. There are some things where it seems like a stunt (military planes & chains, ICE Barbie) and other areas that have me concerned (beds at Gitmo, school raids, etc.), but the border was a big weak point for Dems. It appears he is following through on that front.
I'm not exactly sure what will come of the tariff business with Mexico or what the 10K troops actually means, but if he can follow through on disrupting issues at the border, that will be a boon to his campaign.
More important than all this, IMHO, is how the economy and the wealth gap fares.

It appears they are reiterating things that have already been done to offer up headline concessions to Trump to look good for implementing tariffs.
My other issue with this so far is that it’s not like he’s going in there and ripping up some trade deal that was put into place by Biden, either. He’s ripping up a trade deal that he himself put into place previously. Basically reneging. To most of us in negotiations, that’s a credibility foul.

Cool stories. Not that the truth actually matters, but Mexico sending troops in 2021 was as per an agreement for Sleepy Joe to do the same. You're waggin' the wrong dog with the wrong tail though. Mexico was fed up with the mass migration from Guatemala, those troops were sent to Mexico's southern border, not ours. Joe agreed to beef-up patrol at ours, but, well, we all know how that worked out.
And the 15,000 in 2019? That was under Trump, and that was because he threatened tariffs. You're making this too easy, bro.
As to your second linky-link, you spelled "implemented" wrong. I can propose and propose all day long, until I do something, I'm just blowing hot air. Besides, you'd have to be a fool to believe that proposing that in December, long after Trump was elected, would be "before Trump".
Today Trump said "talk is cheap", and gave them 30 days to back it up.
You should quit falling hook, line and sinker for some of this trash... especially an opinion piece from The New Republic (lol)
Okay, fair enough FATE. Good discussion. I can tell you’re charged up in your rhetoric. Please don’t mistake me for someone who wants to fight or “own” the win. Perhaps I am misreading and, if so, that’s my bad.
I’ve taken a wait and see approach when it comes to the tariffs. Keep in mind, I was the first to reply to this thread to push back against the notion of a stock market fallout. There are a host of other issues with what Trump and Musk are doing right now that I find damaging, first-hand even.
Anyhow, I’m not really trying to make it about which administration did what. I’m glad Mexicans sent troops to the border, regardless of when it happened and who it happened under. It does appear that they are sending less troops this time around than in 2019. My understanding is that the troops have also continuously been present there since that time and that troops who get sent are doing so in a rotating fashion. I’m not sure if that fluctuates between 10 and 15 thousand or if it has been pared down to 10K.
I’m in the process of researching what had been done before. The articles I read concerning the 2021 border dispute mentioned the US/Mexico border. It wasn’t just New Republic. Every media source is going to have their issues. It just so happens that NR was one of them that was brought up, and I was parsing out the quotes and statistics from the article. I also looked up an AP article that talked about a deal between Honduras, the US, Guatemala and Mexico. I do see now that it discusses troop movement to the southern border as well in response to the caravan, but it also mentions the maintenance of the troops in the region from the 2019 accord with Trump. Keep in mind, I’m rereading this after midnight.
Regardless of all that, it would still appear that maintaining a troop count since 2019 would not be a victory.
As far as Canada goes, how much blood do we want to squeeze from that orange? Yes, they passed the plan in December. That hasn’t actually been the porous, drug trafficking dilemma our southern border has experienced. Playing tough and tearing up a deal that POTUS already made prior and threatening tariffs for them to implement a plan they had just passed again seems to me like a strong arming, credibility technique. What is Canada’s incentive for honoring a deal now knowing that another tariffs threat could be coming? It risks of the boy who cried wolf. If someone calls the bluff and we do get into a trade war, that’s a lot of mutual pain, according to Trump’s own words, even.

Mexico has been working with the U.S. on the border for some time now. All trump did was put on a strong man dog and pony show that wasn't needed to make himself look tough.

Not wrong ... and as for strong man tactics? It's funny isn't it. It's softly softly with N Korea and Putin - and a big stick and threats with our allies and neighbors. I know the talk all over EU with politicians and commentators - "can you even trust any agreement with Trump" - a large part of the conversation is a need to move away from relying on business with the US and Trump can't be trusted. Say whatever needs to be said to pacify him as abully but work to find better partners.
I guess any Trump supporter would understand this mentality - if you have a so called ally that is only interested in screwing YOU over for their benefit (Trump's twisted opinion of free trade as we have now) ... well fk that country and work to making things better for your own country whatever the means.
Gosh we are a far far from Reagan's America - heard this today:
The more things change the more they stay the same.
I thought I brought up counterpoints still, but regardless, have a good evening, FATE. Hope all is well with you.
I'm well! I apologize for the tone. This place is just too much of a drag to really participate anymore. And look right above, Pit trying to antagonize so I'll stick around and help him pad his post count. Nah, tired of being a pawn in a never-ending game. Too much of a time drain, especially when it's 85% "I know you are but what an I?" Nothing he posts is ever called out by any on your side.
Look at the other thread, he said any problem at the Canadian border is made up by Trump. I show there are thousands of weapons, tens of thousands of pounds of drugs, hundreds of criminals crossing... he cherry picks some stat that there is *only* a certain amount of fentanyl crossing (only enough to kill about 10 million people, btw).
If this were a discussion, 2,3,4 people on your "side" would at least be willing to challenge the constant goalposts, I mean, at least once a month or so lol. It's not a discussion, it's a quick-fire, ego-driven ish show. The only discussion that ever takes place is among liberals when they're all agreeing on something. Any time someone from the other side of the fence chimes in, it's generally met with ridicule and demeaning comments. And people wonder why Memphis mostly posts from Twitter? Because he's smarter than me, and everyone else, and not willing to waste his time with this garbage.
I stopped in when I heard the Garrett news, I actually wish I wouldn't have lol. Take care, bro. I hope everything works out on the work front. Don't be afraid to make a change if you know it's right in your heart.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Thanks man. I know exactly what it's like being a pawn. I am one right now. Tons of turmoil. Morale is really at a low, not just with me, but everyone I work with. My rather decorated Chief...I'll just say I have never seen her look this defeated before. It really, really, really sucks.
I do want to reset my own goal posts, though, and make it clear. I obviously feel strongly in disagreement with what's going on with this administration. I do view them as dangerous. But, I do depart from a lot of the liberal platforms, and I have railed against their idiocy in arriving here and their complacence, which remains now. They are not innocent in this.
Quite honestly, if a guy like Kinzinger was able to retake the momentum, I'd be right behind him.
