I'd take an O-line of Hank at C and Bentley at G every single day over a line with Bent. at C and either 'Druzzi or Coleman at G. Con, I completely agree with you. Now let's just hope and pray that Bentley can come back next season and we resign Hank.

I think we need to resign Hank wheather or not Bentley comes back next season. We can allways move Bentley to Guard. So I say if we can get a Guard and a Tackle that can start this next season then we will have improved the O line.

It's probably going to be scenerio # 4. I can tell you that there is no way he will be ready for the start of next season. And I don't think he has much of a shot of playing next year at all.
What you say about Hank wanting a multiple year deal w/good money is true. And I imagine that is the real reason Philly replaced him w/Johnson. You see......and no Diam, this isn't for you, because you get it..........if you draft offensive linemen every year, you can easily replace them when they are injured, bust, retire, or their contract is up. We've yet to have anyone in Cleveland's front office realize that..............AND IT PISSES ME OFF!!!
Where was I? Oh yeah...........we are going to need Hank for next year because Bentley won't be ready, but he is going to want a multi-year deal. Diam, I gotta disagree w/you on this one. I would love to keep Hank at center and move Bentley to guard. I was hoping we would move Bentley to guard the day we signed him.
I have always felt that the NFL drastically underrates guards. It's stupid. Good guards almost guarantee that you have a good running game. Who the [censored] doesn't want that? They also are the guys who provide the pocket in which good quarterbacks step up in, which leads to big plays.
Wanna know something. No way the NFL is that stupid, but the meida and the fans are. Guards are the least glamorous spots on the field. And GM"s figure ...what the guards don't know...don't hurt them.
I'm telling you.........if Bentley can come back, and that is in question.........I would love to see him play LG. We could solve two problems at once if we had Fraley at center and Bentley at guard. We draft Thomas and we are well on our way to having a pretty good line. Shaffer could move to RG or RT, where his weaknesses won't be so evident. Hopefully Tuck could come back and we get another guard or tackle next year......in the draft...not free agency. Btw...........don't count on Sowells........and if we sign Leonard Davis, I'll puke.
Draft them! [censored] free agency!

Before Training Camp this year, Bentley was quoted as saying he didn't care where he played....whereever the team wanted him, he would play there...
No... I do not have a link... it was posted on the old DTMB and there were several threads on it. At the time, most people wanted to get rid of Faine so badly that the idea of moving Bentley to Guard was considered obscene...
With Fraley playing Center, the move doesn't sound bad.... that is if Bentley ever plays again....

i'm sure bentley will be happy that he can still play football if he is a guard.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

Your right Halfback. Bentley said he would be glad to play either position. The rumor about him not wanting to play guard, is another case of people reading a rumor and believing it. It's been posted so many times that people take it as gospel

I agree on gaurds ... the reason I didnt like the idea is that I could have sworn La hated playing it and we had to pretty much gaurantee keeping him at Center to sign him .. (and No GM .. that dont come from me believing a rumor on here .. I know for a FACT he hated playing gaurd in NO ... and I could have sworn when we signed him that it was pretty much understood he'd be playing Center .... there are very very few people who say something on here as far as attributing quotes or sumptin said who I believe at face value ..... so me saying that wasn't based on some dolts from the board .... your one of the very few I believe at face value .... so if U say he'd move to gaurd . I'l take your word for it .. I must have been wrong .. see I can admit it .. *L*) ..
and I dint wanna move someone against his will .. just not a smart way to go at this level .. especially not with a quality player like La ..
if hes willing to move .. I would love to re-sign Hank .. then if we draft Joe .. our OL could be as U say ... Thomas or Shaff for yr.1 ... LA/Hank/Shaff or a FA/Tuckor Shaff or Thomas ... then we would have a REAL NICE left side .. then we hopefully take another OL on day 1 or rnd 4 at the latest .. and were on our way .. that line would still struggle next year cause of Thomas being a rook and Shaff learning a new position .. but for the first time since our return we would have 2 OUTSTANDING YOUNG OLmen to build around and a 3rd young OLmen in Shaff that dont stink up the joint .. that would be a REAL NICE STARTING SPOT TO BUILD ON over the next 5 years .. plus maybe it would SHUT U UP about Opie not getting it about the OL ... now if we dont draft Thomas I'm with U .. God I hope I'm not with u .. cause then were gonna stink for at least 5 more years ..
and about the gaurds .. its especially true here in C-Town ... in C-Town we need to be able to run it up the gut in January to win here .. and good gaurds are IMPERATIVE TO running inside .. so we have even more value than most .. and that is also why Center is very imprtant here and why we need a BETTOR OVERALL OL than most .. because even with all that being said .. LT is stil the most important position on any OL ..

I won't comment about where Bentley wants to play....because I don't know, and I ain't gonna make something up. I am just hoping he would be willing to play guard. That would help us a lot. If we draft Joe, I think he is more suited to playing LT, rather than RT. Right d-ends are quicker guys, while L-d-ends are stronger. That's because the tight ends typically line up on the right side of the offense. I think Joe--at this point in his career would struggle against the power guys. He is a little light right now and a little weak in the lower body. His strength is his feet and his technique. I know it is unusual, but I think he would actually do better at LT. I could be wrong though. Look at this, it ain't bad: LT: Thomas LG: Bentley C: Fraley RG: Shaffer/Tucker RT: Tucker/Shaffer Then, we draft a guy who can play on the right side in the 4th this year and another in the first 3 rounds, hopefully the 2nd next year. Tuck will be the first to be replaced, but we should be developing some continuity and break the new guys in slowly. Let me say that I think we should start Thomas from day one. He's going to struggle some. So what? It ain't like we're going to the playoffs next year. plus maybe it would SHUT U UP about Opie not getting it about the OL ... now if we dont draft Thomas I'm with U .. God I hope I'm not with u .. cause then were gonna stink for at least 5 more years .. LMAO! I hope he shuts me up, too. and about the gaurds .. its especially true here in C-Town ... in C-Town we need to be able to run it up the gut in January to win here .. and good gaurds are IMPERATIVE TO running inside .. so we have even more value than most .. Very true.........and I think it is a MUST to have a good running game when you have a young qb. because even with all that being said .. LT is stil the most important position on any OL .. Yeah, but only because it's the QB's blind side.........and QB's are just too valuable to lose to injury. They aren't as important in the running game as most people believe. Most teams, w/some exceptions like Seattle...run more to the right, which is their strong side because the TE lines up there. Don't get mad...I know that you know that....just clarifying it because other people will read this, you know. Now, that ain't saying I don't want a LT. I do. Joe is the safest pick in this entire draft. Btw........send me a pm on what you think of Quinn. I know you follow the Irish. I can't make my mind up on him and I know you've watched him more. One more thing. What happened to Seattle's ground game after they lost Hutch? And I'm talking about even when Alexander has been healthy. We need a LG bad. And if Bentley can come back..........he would be a GREAT LG, and would solve so many problems for us.

IIRC he said he was brought in to play C and that's his preferred position but he was so stoked to play for the Browns he'd play anywhere if asked, i believe he said something along the lines of "....if they ask me to punt the ball i'll punt the ball.." or words to that effect.

That would help us a lot. web page Here's a snippet. Bentley (6-foot-2, 313) played right guard in 2002-03 and center the last two seasons for the Saints. Both Savage and Browns coach Romeo Crennel said they haven?t determined which position he?ll play for his hometown team.
?Right now he?s a Cleveland Brown,? Savage said. ?We?re going to work through some situations and see what can make us a better team. We just told him hey, we want you to be a Brown. We want you to help our football team.? Looks like they were keeping their options open when they signed him.

or they were just keeping it low-key so as not to ruffle Faine's feathers before we had a chance to speak to him about a trade.
Just playing a little devil's advocate.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Yup, i can take that on board. That's pretty much how it was perceived when that snippet first came out.
I trawled and trawled but couldn't find the Bentley quote about playing any position asked (such as punting) anywhere. The press conference he did didn't work for me, pretty sure that's where it'll be stated.

[color:"orange"]As for what he said when getting signed...it was a diplomatic answer to a question posed to him from the media as they were pondering - what to do about our #1 draft pick at Center Faine. They took it into account that Faine could not play OG so they posed the question to LaCB. He diplomatically said if I'm asked to play OG then I'll play OG...I want to make the Browns a winner etc, etc., etc.
I don't think that could really be classified as Wanting or Really a non-preference either way of what position he plays. He was just signed to a mega contract for his favorite team and posed a question by the media. What was he suppose to say? Nah its Center or I ain't playing screw Faine. He was being diplomatic.

I still remember all the assinine posts when we first signed him where people were spouting off that he would NOT play guard, when he clearly said that he would play either position the Browns wanted him to.
