IMO, this is stupid if true. However, they might be putting it out there to fast track a trade instead of an outright release.

What QB would you rather have as a backup? The Falcons 2nd year QB got hurt 4 straight years in college. Getting rid of Cousins means losing other players, too because of the contract, much like our situation with Myles and a potential trade. Pay $10M more for a backup (who may very well have to start at some point during the season.) or Lose $65M in cap space and need to find another quality backup QB. The Falcons out is next year. The NFC South still looks pretty winnable this season. While the bonus becomes guaranteed the 15th, I don't think it gets paid right away and could still move with a trade.

Wonder how much work that "up to" is doing.

Nice combo with Chuba Hubbard. Interesting, and perhaps telling, because they drafted Jonathan Brooks last year.

The NFC South still looks pretty winnable this season. While the bonus becomes guaranteed the 15th, I don't think it gets paid right away and could still move with a trade. The $10M next year isn't a normal bonus. As of now, he doesn't have any guaranteed salary on his contract for 2026. As of now, he has been paid his $50,000,000 singing bonus (which is prorated over, '24/'25/'26/'27), his 2024 salary of $12,500,000, a $10,000,000 roster bonus which became guaranteed almost immediately after last year's league start. So, he stands at $72,500,000 today. He is guaranteed his 2026 salary right now, so he will be getting another $27,500,000. This is where it gets interesting for teams wanting Cousins. Atlanta is on the hook for that $27,500,000. If they release him before Sunday, any team that signs him to a one year deal can get him at league minimum $1,200,000. This is prorated against the Falcons salary guarantee.. so they would then be on the hook for the remaining $26,300,000(+2025 $10M roster bonus and $12.5M prorated signing bonus). BUT, that is where the salary and roster bonuses end. They would then owe the remaining '26/'27 $25,000,000 salary cap money in 2025( and 2026 if post June 1st designated as well), which is true whether they cut him or trade him. So, here are the options for other teams: Wait it out and see if they cut him, which then gets you Cousins at a bargain basement price, but for only one season, then he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He is the ultimate one year stop gap, OR pay him his final contract in 2026, which will include all the bonuses that Atlanta has already paid him through 2027 and beyond. Or Trade for Cousins, possibly for a 6th/7th round draft pick and you will pay for Cousins $10,000,000 roster bonus in 2026 as well as owing him $35,000,000 in salary in 2025, repeat in 2026 if you don't cut him after the league year ends/repeat in 2027. The difference between the Falcons and a team that trades for him is this: 2025, the Falcons get off the hook for his 2025 salary, only owe the signing bonus money of $37,500,000. New team will now be on the hook for $35,000,000 + $10,000,000 roster bonus, but will have the option of keeping him in 2026 and 2027 without any dead money if they decide to part ways with him. Here's the real kicker... the Falcons can structure a trade however they want to. If they want to negotiate for a 3rd rounder instead of a 7th rounder, they can agree to take on some of that 2025 salary as well, which they are currently on the hook for anyway. So a potential trade could look more like this: Atlanta gets Browns #94 3rd round draft pick 2025. Agree to pay $30,000,000 of the $37,500,000 2025 salary Browns get Kirk Cousins with the following money repercussions: 2025 Salary $7,500,000 + 2025 roster bonus that was guaranteed in 2024 (if the Falcons don't throw this into the trade deal) 2026 Salary $35,000,000 + $10,000,000 roster bonus which became guaranteed on March 17th. Option to cut him before league year begins and only owe $10,000,000 roster bonus as 2026 salary is not guaranteed 2027 Salary $35,000,000 + $10,000,000 roster bonus that doesn't become guaranteed until the 5th day of 2027 league year, not the 2026 league year. So, trading for him gives the team that trades a lot more options down the road if structured properly. At the end of the day, the Falcons owe him $45,000,000 in 2025, $10,000,000 in 2026, then can get out. They stand to lose an extra $25,000,000 salary cap in 2025 if they cut him on top of the salary, etc... They can alleviate some of that by designating him a post June 1st, carry the full cap hit until June 1st, then gain some back for 2025 and move the remaining hit into 2026. This is why I think there are some negotiations ongoing, maybe with Cleveland and possibly Pittsburgh.

That is a great post with great information of what is actually happening behind the scenes and the real decisions being made. I am sure the game of chicken is happening between the teams mentioned but more prominently the Browns to see who blinks first. The Browns may have real interest in Russell Wilson but that also could be used to show the Falcons they are not blinking and not trading for Cousins. Will be interesting how it plays out.

There’s a reason the Falcons want to move on because his level dropped significantly at the end of 2024, but that can of course be ignored by the smartest guys in the room if they panic as usual. .

I don’t think we are pursuing cousins, so why worry about it? Do you ever post anything positive about this football team? Seriously. Buzzkill Flo should be your username (had to change my post, got you mixed up with Steve because you’re both chronic killers of da buzzzz).

You will see tons of buzz posts when this organization starts to do well thought out and sensible decisions. Look at our current situation. Do you see a clear plan for us moving forward right now? Do you see any significant upgrade from last season? Probably only two of our draft picks will upgrade our roster apart from late FA signings, if we’re lucky. So right now today we’re at best at the same level as last season, probably worse if the FO can’t upgrade our roster by finding two gems at the draft and hopefully one of them is a a decent QB.

The Browns went 3-14.... signed a QB to a deal that gave away 3 first round draft picks and 230 million in assets. Come on man! When seeing all of this progress how can you not be positive!?
Cousins sucked in his last five games yet people post on this board how he would be the best answer in the FA market. Pointing that out is unforgivable! How dare you!
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Cousins sucked in his last five games yet people post on this board how he would be the best answer in the FA market. Pointing that out is unforgivable! How dare you! That is a fact. It is also a fact that 9 games into 2024 the Falcons were 6-3 with 2 wins over the NFC South Champions Tampa Bay. Cousins had 15 td to 6 picks. He tried to play through an injury and struggled in the next 5 games to a 1-4 record with 1 td and 9 picks and the Falcons decided to switch to the 1st round rookie QB. Which Cousins is the real Cousins, I think Cousins is a QB that can get a team to the playoffs but not win a Super Bowl. If the Falcons release him and the Browns pick him up I believe if he was QB and the defense can get back to being top 10 like 2023 this Browns team could get back to 10 to 11 wins. But the ceiling would remain the same as 2020 and 2023 with 1 and done or 1 win in the playoffs. I would take that in combination with the team trying to find their future Franchise QB this year or next. One other fact is Cousins had his best 2 statistical years with Kevin Stefanski as his O coordinator. QB ratings of 99.7 and 107.4 with 30 td to 10 picks in 2018 with 70.1 completion % and 4,298 yards. Then followed that up in 2019 with 26 td to 6 picks with 69.1 completion % and 3,603 yards. If nothing else he knows and understand Stefanski's offense better than anyone and would be great to have a young QB sit and watch him run that offense.

I have seen rumors that he was playing through a shoulder injury too. I have seen nothing to confirm that and I do wonder who it is that has been floating that story. For all we know it could be Cousin's people and if I were a FA looking to sign another contract I would probably be floating that story as well.

Which Cousins is the real Cousins Your rhetorical question is the answer why trading for Cousins is an unwise move. We don’t know atm his real level and in our position, with loads of holes in the roster, no starting QB, not even a decent backup, it would be stupid to gamble on a player in his age who’s on a steep downward slope career wise. If he was supposed to be our backup QB and cost us the normal rate for a backup it maybe would be ok but that’s probably not the case unless Pickett is supposed to be the backup to the backup. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m wrong because it would be a typical Andrew Berry move to making the Browns having four mediocre or injured QBs that will cost the organization a fortune in both draft pick and salaries.

How so lamp? In every Browns fans mind all of those factor The Browns went 3-14.... signed a QB to a deal that gave away 3 first round draft picks and 230 million in assets. Come on man! When seeing all of this progress how can you not be positive!?

That’s cheap, and a distortion of the discussion, because the DW trade has little to do with what I was saying. How so lamp? Realistically can you tell me what's changed since the end of last season that would make fans feel more hopeful? You don't think the albatross around the neck of this team known as DW is a constant on the mind of fans and will be as long as he still has a locker at the facility? Because what I'm speaking of his all of the ingredients and reasons that are contributing to the negative mind set some Browns fans currently hold. After Cousin's last five games can you tell me why that avenue looks so hopeful? Some fans have become so desperate that they think any of the first three rated QB's in this draft is fine. We both know that's unrealistic. Some seem accepting of any of several FA QB's out there. We both know the answer to the QB position isn't "insert name here". So you have those who feel so desperate they think damned near anything is the answer and sugar coat where this team is at the moment or people who realize nothing has changed since the end of last season and spell that out. They don't want a retread who looked like crap during his last five games because they don't think that's an improvement. They want what they see as the right QB draft pick or don't waste those resources. I'm not sure when you look at where the Browns are at this moment and the current FA options how you expect anyone to be optimistic right now. Some have managed to do so but is it realistic or are they simply fooling themselves?

How so lamp? In every Browns fans mind all of those factor The Browns went 3-14.... signed a QB to a deal that gave away 3 first round draft picks and 230 million in assets. Come on man! When seeing all of this progress how can you not be positive!?
Cousins sucked in his last five games yet people post on this board how he would be the best answer in the FA market. Pointing that out is unforgivable! How dare you! That’s how I see it too. Totally agree. Why fool ourself when nothing really has changed since last season. I can’t see how paying Garrett $40m/season will long term help us. He’s last seasons DPotY but despite that we only won 3 games. Without significant improvements on our D line I expect a similar result defensive wise as in 2024. When it comes to finding a QB in FA is even worse. None of the available like Cousins, Wilson or //insert name// has shown qualities in 2024 to make me believe that we can win our division. My only hope in that department is that we draw the jackpot on our second pick or wait until the draft in 2026. I hope that our FO is wise enough to rebuild our roster slowly and long term. When the time is right trade Garrett and Ward. Forget about an old trouble maker, that’s also coming from a serious injury, like Aiyuk. For me he’s more of a OBJ than a Justin Jefferson type of signing. Spend our resources on the O and D line. Strengthen our backbone, then we can look at playmakers in the offense. Unfortunately Berry and Stefanski is under pressure and they need significant result improvements short term. That’s the opposite to what’s the most sensible long term solution for the Cleveland Browns organization, at least from my perspective.

My post wasn't so much to say I agree with you about everything. Just that I understand the reasoning for why you feel as you do. I really don't have an issue with those who are optimistic about the future nor those who are pessimistic.
Some people feel that optimism is all they have to cling to and hope Berry can turn the ship around. I get that.
Some look at it as Berry is the one who got us to where we are now and Berry has given them no cause to give them optimism. I get that too.

I'm very interested to see how these two deals play out in terms of what CIN will be able to do with building other parts of their team. Their interior line is terrible IMO and their defense (even with Hendrickson) was one of the worst in the NFL. It will be great for Cincy to have their QB/WR combos set up for a next handful of years but wonder how that will dictate decisions elsewhere.

The Bengals fired most of their defensive coaches and their oline Coach..so it sounds it was the scheme not the players that hindered The defense last year. The Bengals offense is so lethal . You don't need a 85 Bears defense To get to the SB

Yeah... but you need something.
They went 9-8 with Burrow and Chase absolutely going OFF last year. And the few games Chase's statline wasn't ridiculous, it was because Higgins was going off.
Bengals were ranked top ten last year (#9 per quick google search). I thought they'd be top 5 because they did end up finding their running game second half of the season.
Defense ranked 25.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

You don't need a 85 Bears defense To get to the SB You are correct. You don't, but you need an avg to above avg one. It feels like for the past 3-4 years Joe Burrow and that offense has struggled early on..... and if that continues, the defense might be a liability when it comes down to the end of the season trying to stay healthy and make the playoffs in a tough AFC.

Yeah I agree completely. Their offense was absolutely lethal last year, but how many games did Burrow play absolutely lights out, where the Bengals ended up losing?
Just looked it up: Bengals lost 4 games last year where they scored 33+ points. That's insane.
It goes to show you can have an absolute behemoth of an offense, but still fall prey to losses when your D doesn't get it done.
It's also not about scheme either. Everyone was amazed at how Anarumo was a nobody who had the defense playing at a high level when he first came on board. They lost a significant amount of personnel and then all of a sudden, sucked. It was definitely a talent issue, not a scheme issue.

As the salary cap increases so do player salaries. That's how it was intended to work. And Jaylen Waddle is nowhere close to the WR that either Chase or Higgins are.

Might be able to build back fairly cheap if they hit on their picks this year.

The NFL can sure seem strange at times.
The Jets after a year of hope cut Rodgers.
He then becomes the hope for the Steelers and Giants?
Fields and Wilson both had chances with the Steelers. The Jets sign Fields after cutting Rodgers.
Pickett a Steelers first round draft choice gets let go. He now signs with the Browns
Wilson who the Steelers seem to have no interest in interviews with the Browns. Then goes to the Giants who had released Jones who gets signed by the Colts.
It like the old saying. "One mans trash is someone elses treasure."

Hill's contract is over in 2026 and Waddle just signed a rookie contract extension that is supposed to pay him through 2028. At the time it was a very nice extension taking him to $28.25M per year, which was good until a slurry of top WRs started the dominos falling in 2024. Higgins average per year is only $500k more than Waddle. Chase took it to a whole other level, beating #2 Justin Jefferson by $5.25M per year. Although Hill was also 30 when he signed, compared to Chace being 25, so there is that as well. These contracts keep amazing me.. higher and higher.. I don't know where it will end.

Not sure many in Cleveland would say that he was even above average.

Ironically enough, right after the Browns tossed him to the trash.

How will we ever replace all those INT's he made as a Brown????
Oh wait two years 22 games played 12 games missed and ZERO INT's I think we found another weak spot in the Steelers D.

I find it odd that a team with much more success than the Browns want someone this FO discarded and people act like they're the fools.

I have no idea what options the Browns have. I have no idea what they're thinking, who or who not they're considering to sign in the FA market nor who they are considering at the #2 position in the draft. If you have any actual insight to those things please let me know. Actually that Tweet about the Steelers doesn't include all of their options either.

One year deal.
That leaves Rodgers with the Steelers.

Or they might not, if they see a QB they like who’ll be available when they pick. This is a weird draft at the top, considering all the particulars.
Not a good QB class, then you have the number of teams who need one, and the number of veteran quarterbacks seen as “bridge”.

Not sure if Wilson would be ok with a Cousins situation arising?
He is getting a one year deal so who knows maybe he is ok with that?
This draft may go sideways. Maybe quarterbacks get passed over in the top fifteen then there is a scramble for guys.

I don't have interest in watching retread quarterbacks. None of them.
Wilson was run out of Denver. Then the Steelers had no serious interest in keeping him.
The Eagles took a deal to get DTR and let Pickett walk. Wentz has been passed around.
Rodgers will probably sign with the Steelers.
Until we draft a guy and see what he can do it is hard to get excited.

I could see them drafting Hunter as an enticement to land Cousins in a trade. No fast-starting young QB to compete with, a couple more line pieces and a RB in the draft plus Hunter. That might look to Cousins.
I agree, all the retreads come off like waving a white flag. Cousins is the only one who offers more than a 20% chance of breaking even. But not much more.

Really the Watson experience is something the team never, ever wants to repeat. Affecting on and off the field. Need a QB in the long haul as well as one that has great character. Watson era is over but the team need to really make it official.

The Eagles took a deal to get DTR and let Pickett walk. Wentz has been passed around.
Rodgers will probably sign with the Steelers.
Until we draft a guy and see what he can do it is hard to get excited. I'm not trying to be an A Hole here, but it sounds like you are saying, evaluate the rookies and take the best one at #2 no matter what? That's a slippery slope if none of them grade out. I think it's pretty obvious that if they graded out, they would be the pick. But, if you take one just on the basis of need and he misses, then you are screwed for another 4 years. If you look at draft history the odds are a QB is not going to get to a second contract anyway, but if you draft one with a second round grade at #2 overall, you are really asking for failure, imho. On the other hand, there are a handful of players that are quite obviously top 5 graded players, that raises your success rate significantly. As for retreads.. If it isn't a rookie, that is your only option besides waiting for Watson to heal. Looking at, with experience: Aaron Rodgers (NOPE) Drew Lock (I certainly hope not) Joe Flacco Carson Wentz Teddy Bridgewater Then.. Case Keenum Tyler Huntley Desmond Ridder Etc.. OR the trade route of Kirk Cousins My top 2 choices are Kirk Cousins, then Joe Flacco... But I think we are heading towards a Carson Wentz in 2025 and probably a rookie drafted in the second round.

If your vet FA starter is going to be Wentz... why do you even bother? Just start the rookie because they're going to be playing by mid-season anyway.

I don't want Wentz at all. He was cooked like 5 years ago
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Steelers' Art Rooney II on Aaron Rodgers pursuit: 'All signs are positive' QB is headed to Pittsburgh Published: Apr 01, 2025 at 12:46 PM https://www.nfl.com/news/aaron-rodgers-steelers-art-rooney-ii-positive-signsEric Edholm Lead Draft Writer Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our Aaron Rodgers-to-Pittsburgh updates. Steelers president Art Rooney II offered an incremental update on his team's pursuit of the future Hall of Fame quarterback on Tuesday at the Annual League Meeting, inching closer to the free agent Rodgers potentially joining the team. "We keep hearing that he's, I guess, headed in our direction," Rooney said, via ESPN's Brooke Pryor, "and so that seems to (indicate that) all signs are positive so far." Positive, true, but hardly settled. Rooney admitted that the drawn-out process has gone on longer than anticipated after Rodgers and the team first met nearly two weeks ago. "Didn't envision it taking this long," Rooney said. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Sunday that there was “no timetable” for Rodgers and the Steelers to make a decision. But there's also only so much sand in the glass. The Steelers aren't willing to wait indefinitely for Rodgers' decision. "Not forever," Rooney said Tuesday, "but a little while longer."

Maybe with Jalen Milroe because of his special skillset, but none of the others have the start me now tools. I am not a Carson Wentz fan. I think he is capable of getting us 7-8 wins. With a rookie, I think we will be right back at the top of the draft list in 2026. The story line reads, "What does Berry and Stefanski have to do to keep their jobs?" I think they need 6-8 wins in 2025 to be given leeway. If they take a QB at #2, I give them 25 games... If they go the veteran route, I give them 22 games. Either way, I think they are going to start the 2026 season, but if they don't have a MASSIVE turnaround to start that season(first 5 games), Haslem will be pulling them quickly to get a jump on the next regime. If they get 7-8 wins in 2025, they have saved their jobs for a full 2026 season, imho. Haslem has taken the blame on Watson. Either he is giving them a pass on bad football because of it, or he feels he can't entice good replacements because of the mess they are in because of it. Either way, if the Browns manage to get 9 wins on the season, they will be given full pardon for the 2026 season... I think 7-8 wins might be enough to do it. A rookie isn't getting you 7 wins. Wentz is probably capable of that if they go early in on RB to fix the hole left by Chubb. If they go QB in the 2nd, Wentz probably won't get you to 7 wins either. They are going to need a running game to get those wins.

I think Pickett will be the starting QB for 2025. They will draft a QB (not at #2), at #33 (Milroe) or trading back into the 1st round (Dart).

Looks like we picked a bad QB draft class to have the #2 pick when we need a QB. Like that time Lloyd Bridges picked a bad week to quit smoking.

I think Kirk Cousins is the best option for the team in the short term. The short term being 2025 starter and possible 2026 starter depending on which QB taken in 2025 draft class. I think the Brown must draft a QB this year, but it does not have to be pick #2. Cousins or Flacco are the only QB's available that can be the bridge. Also drafting a QB at pick 33 will not prevent the Browns from taking another QB in 2026 if the wheels come off and they find themselves picking top 5 again next year. I like Tyler Shough more than all of the other QB's because he is protype pocket passer. 6'5 and tough. In 2023 he broke his leg playing for Texas Tech vs West Virginia and tried to stay in the game. He is mobile and has a good arm. Most QB's scouts say he has the 2nd best QB film behind only Ward. His only 2 knocks are he is 25 and had 3 college seasons end in injury (all broken bones) so there should be no lingering injuries with him. If he was the developmental QB behind Cousins or Flacco he possibly could be the future QB. Cousins, Flacco, Pickett, or even Shough does not prevent the team from drafting a QB in 2026 if the team fails this season, but that QB room is a huge improvement vs 2024 and gives the team a chance to be competitive.
I would draft Travis Hunter #2 overall to be the starting corner opposite Ward and have a package of 15 to 20 offensive plays a game for him as wide receiver. A team with holes and 1 player can fill multiple gaps will be very hard to pass on.

I tend to agree with you here. I think the Brown must draft a QB this year, but it does not have to be pick #2. I also agree.....And I hope it will be Dart or Milroe depending on where they value each and how much they are potentially willing to trade up to get either of them. I don't think Dart be available with the 33rd pick so a move up would have to be made if that is the case. Not sure if Milroe is worth the 33rd but might not be there with the 67th pick, so the same would apply. The good thing is the Browns have a plethora of picks to move around but will need to contend with other teams who like Dart or the potential high upside of Milroe.

If we don’t draft a QB at#2, and I don’t think we should, I have no problem drafting Dart later although I think we will have to trade up to get him. If we do end up drafting Milroe I would sit him down so he can learn and grow into the position. That pretty much would be the game plan with any QB we draft. Milroe could probably benefit greatly by watching videos of Lamar Jackson as they seem to have a similar skill set.

Compensation update: Patriots are trading QB Joe Milton and a 7th-round pick to the Cowboys in exchange for Dallas’ compensatory 5th-round pick, per sources. https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1907798948015677633

If we're looking at Dart, I think we may find it easier (and less taxing, literally) to trade out of #2 into the middle of first, pick up another second round pick and an additional high pick next year.
If Dart becomes the consensus #3 QB (whether reality or media narrative) then it will be hard to predict where he will land and a lot of teams sitting 10-20 will either have, or lie about having, multiple suitors for their pick.

I'm just wondering if this move is because they aren't interested in drafting Sanders if he is still on the board or have reasons to believe the Browns will draft him at #2 and he won't still be on the board?

Sorry, but you must be jesting with your comment. Njoku hasn't come close to earning the ridiculous contract Berry gave him: Contract Value: $54,750,000 ($13,687,500 APY), Fully Guaranteed Money: $17,000,000, and Contract Ranking: 6/145 at TE. I mean really, is there anyone anywhere that can think for a moment that Njoku was anywhere close to being the 6th best TE in all of football these last 4-5 years? In the 5-years here under Stefanski, Njoku has only 21 TD catches. How about PFF grades: 2024 - 35th @ 64.0 - Heck, Njoku wasn't even graded as the top TE on the Browns (Adkins - 24th @ 67.2) 2023 - 21st @ 68,2 JMHO, Njoku should give money back to the Browns during contract negotiations - he's never turned into that star TE everyone had counted on. 8-years is long enough to wait, this project has never succeeded as thought by the Browns FO.

Impact doesn't mean they will pay more. Impact means what is means-- that this contract will effect negotiations with Njoku. This is the most recent TE contract, so whether he gets paid more or less will be impacted by this recent deal (whether it's the average annual amount, guaranteed dollars, etc.).
You (poorly) chose to interpret my comment in a way that you could spin it into a negative.

You have misinterpreted my post likewise. The contract for All-Pro TE Trey McBride should have zero - none - notta impact in the Njoku negotiations. As I stated, Njoku hasn't come close meeting the ROI as he enters the final year of his deal. Njoku should have never been given the extension in the first place because he never lived up to his lofty 1st round draft position. Most teams do not exercise the 5th options on players that fail to meet expectations, but the Browns & Berry (much like today's MSM) sold us a make-believe story on Njoku's young age and chance at improving as the reason for picking up the option and the eventual unworthy deal. 8-years later we are still waiting on that top-notch play from Njoku that has eluded the Browns, Berry, and the fans for 8-years now.
As I said and greatly misinterpreted, never mentioning future money, McBride's contract shouldn't have any more impact on Njoku's contract negotiations than Mahomes contract has an impact on Pickett's contract - apples and oranges.

He has flashed but has not stayed consistent. Being a contract year, I am hoping he puts up good numbers this year. I would also like to see the Browns draft another quality TE. This year's draft is loaded with good tight ends that will be available in the mid rounds. Going back to 12 and 13 personal groupings it would be good to have multiple quality TE's information at the same time.

The fact of the matter is each time the salary cap goes up so do the contracts at every position. The salary cap divides up NFL profits. So salaries for TE's increase just like every other position. The fact that Trey McBride now holds the record contract for TE's is no different than how other top players at their positions will also be setting record contracts. It coincides with the increase in the salary cap.
What impacts Njoku's contract will be due to the salary cap increase and not the contract of Trey McBride.

I have a hard time using 2024 as part of any sort of measuring stick for pass-catchers. That said, give KS the weapons to operate out of 12, 13 formations. A drafted TE in a strong class sounds great to me. A stronger (albeit slightly) WR room also helps the team in Njoku negotations.

Yuck. I hope Cedric can take the next step. He did show some promise last year before he got hurt. He was also wide open several times where Watson either didn't look or just didn't throw his way.

Everything about last season was just so trash that it's nearly impossible to draw any real conclusions except that Watson isn't the answer to any questions except those along the lines of "Who was the biggest waste of money in NFL history?"

incoming comp pick for next year Yep, on to the next option. DJ Chark? Can't stay healthy... Tyler Boyd? Big drop in production with Titans over career with Bengals. Could that mean a bargain price on someone, if he could get back to that stature at the age of 30? Not a lot of viable options. Cooper and Beckham are available, but they aren't real options. Keenan Allen is available, but it seems like several teams are courting him, which means he will be priced out of the market for the Browns. Any suggestions? Then again.. If we sign a WR, then the comp pick probably goes away.. So, maybe we are looking more closely at Tillman, Thrash and Bell finally contributing?

With the QB situation we had last year I'm not sure we can really judge a guy like Tillman. But it's certainly a wait and see situation.

My money would be on Amari going back to Dallas where he had the most success of his career. Don't get me wrong, I would like to have him back, but the outlook isn't good for it to happen.

It would probably take a good offer from the FO and a phone call from Joe to even get the conversation started. I'd be curious to see what Cooper's per-game statistics were with Joe Flacco vs any other QB. Flacco definitely loves himself a focal, dependable WR. He rode Anquan Boldin all the way through the playoffs and the SB in 2012.

Then again.. If we sign a WR, then the comp pick probably goes away.. So, maybe we are looking more closely at Tillman, Thrash and Bell finally contributing? FYI: We've already signed more FAs than we lost...we aren't getting a comp pick no matter who we sign/dont-sign.

Browns need to bring Amari Cooper back. He and Joe had a connection. There is a saying: "You can never go home". That is a past chapter. I don't think he wants that, nor do we.

I think he made his feelings towards us very apparent. He checked out before he was traded.

Along the lines of what Ytown said... I wish this wasn't true (as he'd be a really good band-aid for this season), but I think you're spot on in this case.

I can't - off the top of my head - think of a team who, in recent history, has drafted more highly talented, yet dramatically burdensome wide receivers than Pittsburgh.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Clowney is what he is... a guy that, if paid, will be there for you in about 10 games. Get you about 5 sacks and take a bunch of plays off if it's going to the other side. You won't get that production if he is offered league minimum, nor will he sign a contract.
Carolina is on the hook for $6M, he was set to make about $7.75M more... If a team can get him for about $6M, he might sign, but I still don't think you get the full production I stated above. He just doesn't give that kind of effort these days.
Now, that said, he is still a top 20 edge player in the league at 32, someone can certainly use his services. Carolina moved on to make way for their new draft picks.

I'm certainly not advocating the Browns sign him. Just posting it because it is player news and he did used to play here.
