Yeah? So what?

Well, I have been walking like a tottering weeble wooble for quite a while now. It seems that I have had issues with the IT Bands in both legs, but mainly the right. have been seeing a masage therapist for a couple of months now, who uses pressure points and darn near abusive levels of pressure ..... but I actually managed to not only walk a bit, but to walk around my entire block. I was shocked when I realized just how far from home I was ..... but figured that I would just have to finish it then. lol

It truly is amazing, because like I said, I have not been able to walk very much. I am curious to se if I am able to do more than 5 minutes on the bike tonight, or not.

I have to say, though, this is rather amazing. laugh

Nice going! That has to feel good, bro.

Any nagging problem I've ever had was solved by massage or acupuncture. Hope this journey leads to great place!

Great stuff! Keep going, man!

To this DT board: I think this is the perfect opportunity to suggest the perfect walk off music for the man. Any suggestions?

Real toe tapper that. I was gonna suggest a little sumpin' sumpin' from RiverDance, but thought it might be too soon. Get done sooner, I suspect. Just tickled to learn of this good news.

Thanks for being open and posting about your health problems. A while back you posted about having a hernia. I thought to myself, "I might have one too." Either that or a couple of lipomas. I went to a specialist, got an EEG and found out I had two lipomas, plus a hernia in my belly-button. The doctor said the hernias in the belly-button come at birth. People can't tell from looking at it, but doctors obviously can. I never knew. Looks normal to me.

Anyhow, I had minor surgery on my lipomas about 3 or 4 weeks ago, everything went well. The doctor said leave the hernia alone in the belly-button, unless it bothers me. It doesn't.

They also did a biopsy, no cancer, thank God. I'm getting older (I'm 59) and have to worry about stuff like that now from time to time.

Thanks again!

I'm glad that everything was good. That is a great blessing.

I used to stay away from doctors at all costs ..... but as I have gotten older, I have found that it makes better sense to get potential problems checked out quickly. The worst thing is to let minor problems turn into major ones.

Well, I have walked every day since I posted this thread. I am posting soaked with sweat, as I just did just shy of 3 full city blocks. Whew. I cannot believe how that therapist fixed my legs so my knees don't kill me after 50 feet or so. Just amazing.

I had both knees replaced at the same time on 4/24/2015. Titanium. Was in retail(Supermarket) for 45+ years and the hard surface just ground my knees down.

Implant type: Stryker

Not too much walking lately. My knees have been sore again. Not like before, but a pain, nonetheless.

I have started working out a bit harder though. I bought 3 pieces of equipment. I have found that I am extremely weak now. crazy I am still not allowed to life to my heart's content using my shoulders and right bicep, though by the end of this month I should be good to go. At one point in my life, I could bench press 150-160. I didn't want to overdo it, so I threw 25# on each arm on my bench press, (50# total) and I coldn't do it. Ugh. I had to drop downto 20 per side. I am stronger than I was before my shoulder surgery. I know this because I bought a Dewalt socket kit that it really heavy. I had to work to get it upstairs, but I took it back downstairs and it was easy. I am just nowhere near as strong as I once was. Time to work out and really hurt myself, I guess. rofl I just have to be sensible, especially with my back.

I hear you Bubba, but you have to do what you can do, and have realistic expectations.

No matter what anybody says, you can't turn back the clock. There comes a point in life where due to physical or age issues you just won't be able to do what you once could, so don't hold that as the standard.

Accept the new standard, it is what it is.

I was just shocked at how weak I got in the larger scheme of things, even though I have gotten stronger in the past year or so. At least I'm not usually wobbling as much as I did when I walk.

I'm just seeing this now, but this is GREAT!

It is amazing how much tightness contributes to people thinking they have something wrong when all they really have is things that need a little regular use and care.

Hopefully, you have adopted a regular stretching program by now that helps you maintain. In addition to stretches for the IT Band, I strongly recommend you also begin to stretch: glutes, hamstring, quads, calf muscles AND - and these two are as big and important as IT Band: Hip Flexors and the Psoas. You can make all of these part of a morning and evening routine. Hell, half of them have versions that can be done while still laying in bed. Most people with "bad" backs or lower back pain really just have tight hip flexors in front. The "old man walk" is caused by that. The body is a connected chain and it will shift and adapt to compensate for things going on in other parts of the structure... the more you can take care of, the better the whole thing will be.

As for strength: don't worry about where you used to be except to allow it to drive you to strive to get back there. As long as you don't have any injury or structural reason to prevent you from getting back to that point, you CAN get back to being as strong as you were in your youth or even stronger. I just turned 54 and I'm still hitting back squat and front squat personal bests monthly. I'm knocking on the door of squatting 405 (I will by the end of June, for sure) and I have my eyes on 450+.... age is just a number.

The human body will do everything in its power to adapt to what is consistently asked of it.
If you ask it to move lots of heavy things, it will adapt to allow you to move heavy things by getting stronger.
If you ask it to run long distances on a regular basis, it will adapt by increasing its cardio-vascular efficiency.
Etcetera, etcetera...

Glad to hear you're walking and getting stronger, bro.... keep going! Never stop.

Thanks for the advice. I definitely have to work on stretching more than I do. I have mainly been doing hamstring stretches in bed, pulling my foot up as much as possible without real pain.

My back is still a mess. It is an internal, structural ikssue, but I hope that I can improve it, even just a little.
