Tony Grossi @TonyGrossi · 25m Browns say Dillon Gabriel expected to start v Eagles.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Tony Grossi @TonyGrossi · 1m Darian Thompson-Robinson expected to start at QB for Eagles. Too bad Kenny Pickett (hamstring) still out. Game coulda been a referendum on the Browns-Eagles trade.

Hopefully Philly doesn't play their starting D. Most all of our OL starters will be on the bench. Philly gave up the fewest points allowed last season and is ranked as the 2024 #1 D according to most sources I've seen.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I would be willing tio bet that the 2 coaches spoke about who is playing in the game itself. It seems like most teams play starters in the more controlled practices, then sit them for the games. (1 and 2)

Honestly, Gabriel has looked good .. but the two TO's simply can't happen. He can't be trusted at this point (not saying Sanders can either yet)

Gabriel should have thrown the ball away on that INT but it wasn't entirely his fault. #86 held up just before the ball got thereand let it go by.

Dillon looked a lot better than his stat line. Two rough plays that show he’s definitely a rookie…playing with rookies.
I was impressed and I didn’t think I would be.
His arm also looked fine.

I agree. He was pretty good. Two bad mistakes marred a good day. He's quite accurate and has good awareness. IMO, Pickett shouldn't make the roster

Looked like it was on the receivers. Should have chucked it out of bounds. Rookie fever to make a play.
I was really impressed today. Pickett may be spendable or trade bait IMO. Looking sharp these rookies are!

Who kicked today?
Pierre Strong had a solid game, did he look as good as the stats show?

That INT by Gabriel was clearly on the TE Whiteheart, he went to catch the pass then just as the ball got there he pulled his arms back allowing the defender the opportunity to intercept it.

The pick 6 no way. The TE pulled his arms back to let the ball go past. It was also a blown route by somebody. The two receivers were what looked like 4 feet apart. Plays aren't designed that way. The handoff, maybe, maybe not.

Not a good look for Gabriel to take a shot at the media. I think Browns fans are smart enough to take him at his word (entertainers = media).
The juxtaposition of someone more savvy with the media, just last week bringing the temperature down versus this stupid blip of a comment from Gabriel ... don't shoot yourself in the foot kid - you looked good.

Considering the depth chart and who played. It was impressive.
DL depth looks good. The defense swarmed. Good effort.
Thrash played well. Gabriel played well.
So far, the draft picks have been good outside of Judkins.

I thought the Browns played pretty darn good against the defending Superbowl champs. I liked how Gabriel played for the most part. He was efficient and pretty darn accurate. He led them down to score a rushing TD in the first drive. Then our TE bobbled the ball right to the defender for a defensive TD. It's pretty obvious that during the joint practice they ran a LOT of sweeps because philly knew exactly when they were running one. I felt Gabriel had a pretty good game against a pretty high caliber defense. I honestly was expecting far worse play from him.
Our Running Backs seemed pretty hot and cold but I thought Marshall looked pretty decent again. Our defensive line was getting after it and I loved the effort they showed. Offensive line was outclassed a bit but they did what they could. I saw a bit of laziness in the downfield blocking that was making me a bit upset.
Overall I think we played a pretty good game against one of the best teams in the NFL and I saw good sportsmanship from both teams so they must have had some good practices against each other this week. I hope we get to see Flacco in this next game for the first quarter at least. Would be nice if Pickett is ready to go for this last preseason game. I think Pickett deserves a fair shot.

I’m rewatching the game now since I had to watch it on my phone the first time.
I like Dewand Jones a lot. That being said he looked bad for his two series. He seemed to be reaching on most of his blocks.
Dionte Johnson shouldn’t be anywhere near this team. zero effort after the pick. Someone pointed it out earlier that he doesn’t put effort into blocking or route running when he isn’t the primary.
Speaking of wide receivers, I have no idea what we are going to do. Juedy, Tillman, and Thrash are locks. We haven’t seen Carter who is 5’8 and I believe returns punts and kicks. We haven’t seen seen Davis return kicks fairly well and has caught everything including 2 TDs. Larvadain has done a nice job on punt returns and has really flashed in receiving. Problem with him he is only 5’8 like Carter. Now that appears Bond is going to sign he will also be a lock.

Pierre Strong had a solid game, did he look as good as the stats show? Actually, he did. Strong ran with some authority. Strong really hasn't had much of a chance. He has 99 career carries. That's nothing, but has averaged 5 yards per carry....not bad. Personally, I'd put him ahead of Ford on the depth chart. Running back is a position of opportunities. If you only get in for a few plays here and there, it's hard to show your worth.

Another thing… Adin Huntington has earned a roster spot in my opinion. He is undersized at DT (6’1 281 lbs) but he still finds away to get pressure. Where he excels is special teams. He always flies around the field and is in on almost every tackle. His effort is 2nd to none.

Andre Szmyt held a lot of the kicking duties yesterday and looked just fine doing it. He's a former Lou Groza award winner out of Syracuse.

I felt good about the play of the team yesterday.
Gabriel looked just fine. As has been mentioned that int. was on the TE. It was as if he pulled up to let the WR get the catch rather than trying to catch the ball himself which allowed the defender to step between the two and make the int. Had the TE tried to catch that ball none of that would have happened. Tillman looked good as well. Gabriel can scramble pretty well but I think he was holding back because of that hamstring injury which is probably the smart thing to do. Strong also looked very good. Now that video evidence has shown that the allegations against Judkins were fabricated that issue should be resolved in short order.
Two weeks with two rookie QB's and both performed well. I've learned from experience you can't make any final judgements or assumptions based on preseason but the signs are certainly pointing in the right direction.
The D looks fast and is attacking, swarming. I love the looks of that!

I agree w/ all of that Pit. I think the defense attitude and effort seems better than preseason years past, just from my eye. Not sure if that will translate but hopefully

j/c...
- Gabriel was impressive on 3rd downs. - Adin Huntington making a strong case to make the 53. - Hopkins still looks shaky though his contract may be the reason he stays on the team instead of Szmyt. - Thrash and Gabriel have developed a good chemistry. - Dewand Jones got torched on the sack. - OL depth is concerning, especially with the Lucas ankle injury. - DB depth is a concerning as well. Cam Mitchell is bad. I wonder if Berry will look to trade for a DB. - The DL has been outstanding. - Ahmani Marshall has done a nice job with his opportunities. Good practice squad candidate. - Dionte Johnson is a waste of time.
We get to see the starters in the 3rd preseason game. Looking forward to that. The Gabriel vs Shedeur noise will ramp up as the final home preseason game approaches.

Thrash looks like he has worked on his game . Dionte Johnson Continues to show why 3 teams cut his lame body of work last year . Maybe Mary Kay Kool Aid will stop hyping him up with his rainbows and flowers takes Browns secondary depth is alarming

The team has looked good so far out there. I know there has been barely any starters out there, however the backups haven't' looked like misfits out there. Within reason, they look well organized out there.
The play that has been brought up a few times: Is a little of all threes (QB, WR, TE). The basics - the execution of the WR and TE was poor. Those two should have not been that close to each other, the play is designed to have spacing. Johnson should have ran that route deeper, Whitehead route should've been a little shorter. Dillon should've thrown it away. This would've been a non-issue if the WRs route was deeper. Instead, it was a cluster __ and Dillon made the wrong decision.
I am pleased with both how Sanders and Gabriel have performed in their games. I really don't care how good or bad the opposing teams have been the past two games. I am more interested to see how they perform within the moments. A few examples from last week, Sanders in the red zone - sees the blitz coming at him, moves right, back picks it up and he throws a strike in the perfect spot to Davis for the TD. The same goes with threading the needle for the TD, those moments show good fundamentals and poise. The same goes with Gabriel moving in the pocket, ball placement, and etc. Both showed above average going through their progressions. Will that translate when playing against starers? I do not know. Either way, it was nice to see rookie QBs looking down field while scrambling instead of bailing out and running right away.
I think the UDFAs Berry has brought in have shown some promise. A couple could possibly make the roster. I do think there are a couple that are definitely PS worthy.

We should keep both he and Lardavain I’m leaning in that direction. They both have been productive. Bell is gonna have his bell rung, Johnson can’t do any better than the younger guys, and 84 is balling.

Bell was released, still a FA
AI overview:
No, David Bell is not currently on an active NFL roster. He was released by the Cleveland Browns in the 2024 preseason. While he initially made the 53-man roster, he was later waived and signed to the practice squad, but ultimately released. He was also placed on injured reserve with a hip injury after being promoted to the active roster.

I just found this from Kurt Warner from the game
Thank you - that is a phenominal video to watch and learn from. No Idea if Dionte is running thr wrong over/crossing route at 16:30 where KW is breaking down the INT -- but one of the things that have popped up intermitently on Stefanski's offense is how close the receivers are from time to time. KW has pointed it out himself on other videos. . . . this play and listening to KW you can absolutely understnand why DJ needs to be 5-6 yards deeper. As others have mentioned - AFTER the INT, Dionte's effort is zero. I don't know if you can coach that out of him but that really irks me to the core.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

According to the Browns roster, Bell is on the "Active/Non-Football Injury" list https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/team/players-roster/

He was so overrated coming out of Purdue. That's one college that does not produce NFL upper tier WRs.

I don’t see how we let Thrash go. I watched the game this morning and he looked really good. We let Thrash go?

btw, they just mentioned the Brian Robinson deal with Washington. He's not a "fit" there anymore because they wanna go spread and shot gun. Maybe he'd fit in better here with the power run game

I took a look at the Bengals depth chart. He is listed as a 3rd stringer (the list three receivers as starters). No way he doesn’t make the team.

Good. Looking back at the post, it's one of those that can be read two ways.

Still here though, right? I like his game a lot.
