Far more often times than not, athletes and coaches "push the limit" and do NOT go "out on top". Yes, it happens. But for every Cowher you see, there's a "Joe Montana with KC".

So it's not written in stone either direction. Problem being, if you're Caldwell, you can't predict the future. At least not accurately.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Jags allow Cowboys to talk to former head coach Campo
By Len Pasquarelli

The Dallas Cowboys have received permission to talk with Jacksonville Jaguars' assistant head coach Dave Campo about a job as secondary coach.

Campo is believed to be the front-runner to fill the vacancy created when Todd Bowles departed last week to join the Miami Dolphins' staff as assistant head coach.

If Campo accepts an offer from Dallas, it would spell a return to the franchise that fired him following the 2002 season after he went 15-33 as head coach.

But neither Campo nor Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seem to have much problem with such an unusual circumstance, so there is a relatively good chance the move will be consummated. The Cowboys lost three defensive assistants last week -- Bowles, linebackers coach Paul Pasqualoni and line coach Kacy Rodgers -- when their Dallas contracts expired and they accepted offers to join new coach Tony Sparano's staff in Miami. Sparano had been the assistant head coach in Dallas, and it was well known that he intended to fill jobs with several Cowboys staffers.

Dallas last week hired former Cleveland defensive coordinator Todd Grantham to replace Rodgers, but is still seeking assistants for the secondary and linebackers positions.

Campo, 60, has been an assistant head coach in Jacksonville the past three seasons, working primarily with the secondary unit. Jags coach Jack Del Rio last week hired Donnie Henderson, a former defensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions and New York Jets, to an undefined role. Henderson could take over the secondary position, long his area of expertise, if Campo leaves.

Because the move does not include the prospect of a head coach job, Jacksonville could have denied the Cowboys' request to talk to Campo. Apparently, Del Rio will not stand in Campo's way if he wants to leave.

In 1989, Campo was hired by the Cowboys as their secondary coach; he served on the staffs of head coaches Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer in that capacity until being elevated to head coach in 2000. After three straight 5-11 seasons, Campo was fired.

Campo was then an assistant coach in Cleveland (2003-2004) before joining Del Rio's staff in 2005.

I dont think Carthon is anything more then a RB coach in this league. Or a coach other teams can interview so they dont break the Rooney rule.

The guy had no clue about blocking schemes. its pretty bad when you have the o-line coach (Danielson) and the QB (Garcia) arguing with you in practice over blocking schemes. Its also bad when all your trick plays involve the fullback.

Dave Campo is one of my bosses childhood best friends. Said he's a nice guy, but football took over his life. He supposidly has major family issues. (second or third wife now and his first kids hate him and his now kids have issues with him too). He's never around.

It's unfortunate that the time committment involved with football calls for that though. It's a big sacrafice. Gotta be thankful for it though because it's what makes football so great for us

It's just not him with family issues, it seems to happen with allot of NFL coaches, off the top of my head, Andy Reid's boys are drug addicts, Tony Dungy's son committed suicide, and Bill Bellichick is considered a man whore in the New England area, sort of the "Hugh Heffner" of Boston.

These type of things always seem to happen in which people put themselves into situations like this due to their job, and it's not just coaches, it's anyone who choses to put in so much time and effort into their job they get their priorities mixed up. It's one thing to get paid, but it isn't worth it when you have to give up so much, such as your life, family and friends. No job to me is worth giving up all that.

As for Campo, it sounds like he never fully pulled his head out of Jerry Jones's ass.

Thankful for a man who gives up his life for a game? I think not. I might enjoy the game, but don't think anyone should have to give up so much so I can enjoy a few hours every Sunday, it's sad for someone to feel thankful for another mans personal issues, and to say your thankful for it, makes you a lesser man in the scheme of life. There are many things more important then football.

I really feel bad for you if you are truly thankful for this mans issues, not only does he need help, but sounds like you do as well.

I think he, like I, just admire the passion for the game and what makes it great. No one is sitting here and touching themself thinking about the issues someone is having with their family by any means. It's very unfortunate some people can't balance the two, but that happens with stock brokers, business execs, many people. But in that same breath you got to appreciate the dedication and love of the game.

Former Dallas head coach Campo returns to coach Cowboys' secondary
Associated Press

Updated: January 29, 2008, 6:05 PM ET

IRVING, Texas -- Former Dallas Cowboys coach Dave Campo rejoined the staff Tuesday, returning to his roots as the secondary coach.

While Campo carries the dubious distinction as the only coach never to get Dallas into the playoffs, he got that job because of his success working with the defense.

Having started as a defensive assistant under Jimmy Johnson, he moved up to secondary coach then became defensive coordinator under Barry Switzer. He was calling the defensive plays when the Cowboys won the Super Bowl following the 1995 season.

Campo remained defensive coordinator when Chan Gailey followed Switzer, then he replaced Gailey in 2000.

Dallas went 5-11 in each of Campo's three seasons, yet he was somewhat a victim of bad timing -- his first season ended up being Troy Aikman's last, which then left the Cowboys in dreadful shape under the salary cap. Ryan Leaf, Quincy Carter and Chad Hutchinson were some of his starting quarterbacks. He was replaced by Bill Parcells after the 2002 season.

Campo spent the next two years as defensive coordinator in Cleveland and the last three as the secondary coach in Jacksonville. He was still under contract with the Jaguars, but was given permission to interview with Dallas, where he still has family.

"I'm a Cowboy," Campo said. "I'm happy to be back here."

Campo replaces Todd Bowles, one of several assistants brought to the Cowboys by Parcells who then left to join him in Miami, where he is the new vice president of football operations.

Coincidentally, Dallas' previous hire was Todd Grantham, Campo's successor as defensive coordinator in Cleveland.

Dallas is still in need of a linebackers coach. Dom Capers, a former head coach in Jacksonville and Houston, is among the candidates.

Campo spent Tuesday settling into his new office. Actually, it's his old office, too, the same one he had when he arrived on Johnson's staff in 1989.

"I looked out the window and it was the same view," Campo said. "But then I looked into the mirror and I figured out it wasn't exactly the same. But it was a deja vu kind of thing."

While Campo's return might seem awkward -- putting a former coach on the defensive staff, while the presumed coach-in-waiting Jason Garrett guides the offense -- such a move has happened before. Gunther Cunningham went from defensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs to their head coach in 1999-2000, and has been back as defensive coordinator since 2004.

Robiskie joins the Falcons

Falcons hire Terry Robiskie to coach receivers
Associated Press

Updated: January 26, 2008, 5:14 PM EST

New Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith hired four assistants Saturday, including receivers coach Terry Robiskie and defensive line coach Ray Hamilton.

Smith also hired running backs coach Gerald Brown and offensive quality control coach Glenn Thomas.

Robiskie has 25 years of NFL coaching experience, including stints as an interim head coach in Washington and Cleveland.

He was the second straight assistant hired from the staff of former Miami coach Cam Cameron, who was dumped after a 1-15 season. Mike Mularkey, the Dolphins' tight ends coach in 2007, joined the Falcons as offensive coordinator on Friday.

Hamilton spent the last five seasons with Jacksonville, where Smith had been defensive coordinator. Hamilton coached defensive tackles Marcus Stroud and John Henderson, who combined for five Pro Bowl appearances.

Hamilton was defensive line coach for Cleveland from 2001-02 and also coached for the New York Jets, New England Patriots and Los Angeles Raiders.

Brown was an assistant at Indiana, where he coached running backs and special teams.

Thomas was offensive coordinator for Midwestern State the last four seasons.

Smith also kept two holdovers from the previous staff, promoting Brian Van Gorder to defensive coordinator and keeping Emmitt Thomas to work with the secondary and serve as assistant head coach.
