Kinda unrelated, but I was watching Total Access, and they were showing Pro Bowl practice and noticed Cribbs taking direct snaps behind center.

Okay, I will buy that.

But stop and think about why I may have brought it up in the first place. And no, it wasn't a "swipe" at anyone. *L*

That's why I dislcaimed it by saying I might be commenting on a microcosm of a bigger picture.

Marjax, 'Brick was overhyped since his freshman year, and was actually overhyped in his rookie year, a year that really wasn't all that great. It was just more hype from a playoff team that was itself mostly hype.

Left tacklels can be judged on their own more than any O-lineman, as they get stuck on an island far more often. Unfortunately for Brick, he can't keep his weight up and gets pushed around by accomplished rush-ends. All the technique in the world won't make much of a difference when you can't keep your weight at 290. It's become public knowledge that his weight falls into the 280's by mid-year, as he just doesn't have the frame to keep the pounds on. I've actually been told that a report came out which said he was at 281 at year's end. Take a look at his skinny legs. It's not a stretch to believe it.

Ogden, Jones, and Pace have played next to some iffy guards as their careers moved on. Their individual play didn't drop because of a guard next to them. It can be argued that a line's overall play falters because of inferior parts, but not the individual play of left tackles. In Brick's case, I saw him shoved into the backfield by a single rusher numerous this year. I can't recall which game it was, but he was being destroyed all game by someone, a name that isn't at the same level as Jason Taylor.

Now this isn't to say he's going to be a bust, but he's not nearly as good as what was advertised, nor will he ever be unless he can manage to use a little go-go juice to keep the pounds on.

Bottom line: 'Brick is not now, nor will ever be, in the same class as Thomas. We got the right guy

While I have no reason to dispute your review of Brick I've gotta throw a flag on one point. You say he can't keep his weight at 290 and was down to 281 at season's end.

Geez, he lost 9 whole pounds. God, he was wasting away.... C'mon, Toad, some of these guys take a pre-game dump that is that big. Brick may have a multitude of problems football-wise but chiding him for losing 9 pounds over the course of the year seems more than a bit nit-picky.

BTW, just so we avoid any unwarranted arguments here, I was more than pleased when we picked up JT. I agree that he's very likely to be an All-Pro for the next 10 years.

Methinks you may not be aware just how important that 9 pounds of muscle actually is at seasons end. 290 is marginal for an NFL left tackle, and doesn't leave any room for weight loss.

It's really no different when a DB runs a 4.53 in the 40 yard dash. I mean, it shouldn't make a difference if he runs a 4.6, right? What's 'Brick going to do when he starts to lose a step later on in his career? Get lighter?

C'mon, if he lost 9 pounds during the season I doubt it was muscle. More likely, lard.

And the db comparison is apples and oranges. But hey, I like apples and oranges.

The thing though, too, is that no LT should be below 300 lbs playing football these days.
