Agree. Any possible incoming HC who wants to fiddle with our D needs to be dismissed from the proceedings. It would only make him look bad.

If we could get Harbaugh and somehow keep our defensive coordinator, we would be in great shape.

If he wanted the DC gone, I'd rubber stamp that. I trust that Harbaugh knows how to put together a defense and hire a DC.

Andy Reid makes $20M a year. I'd offer Harbaugh $30M. In an email. Sent 20 minutes ago.

Harbaugh will not take the job in Cleveland if offered.

My guess is the Raiders.

I don't think Harbough would take a job in the North division.

Also think the idea of him coming here is pretty ludicrous. That's why you'd have to give him the farm. But he still won't take it. Raiders or Giants. Or TV.

Hire this man now and I’ll feel better about the Browns and their leadership. Probably too experienced and strong a personality. What an opportunity though.

May the Schwartz be with you

All I know is that the second guessing of the Browns coach would be greatly diminished. I would back up the Brinks truck as well, but I don't think he would take the Cleveland Job.

Think of it, Stefanski takes the Ravens job and Harbaugh the Browns!

Oh my gosh! The fan base of either team is laughing at the other! It would be great for the media!

Schwartz probably won't stay as DC any longer. If he gets an interview and doesn't get the job, or if he isn't even a candidate, it would be clear the Browns don't think he is good enough.

Why stay somewhere when they tell you that you don't have a future with the team?

Why? Story is he's being fired. He may not be Jim, but he's a Harbaugh... the ability to stick it to the group that fired you would float to the top of his list.

In the end it will come down to the quarterback situation.

The Raiders have the first pick.

The Giants and Titans have their quarterback.

You go where ownership supports you and there is a quarterback you can win with.

Harbaugh will have his choice.

It will be interesting if KS gets the Giants gob. Dart was passed over by Berry.

If KS goes there and wins big. The Browns once again gets to wear the dunce cap.

In this thread it was reported his agent has been contacted by all 7 teams with a HC opening. Do you really think anyone with Harbaugh's stature in the NFL coaching world would consider the Browns even one of the top 3 or 4 destinations to continue building his legacy given all of the options available? He's used to having a QB. The Browns don't have one.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

It would be exactly how the Titans look after firing Mike Vrabel when Vrabel never had a real QB there. He just led the Patriots to a 14-3 record with a QB.

There are only 32 NFL head coaches.

Lots of coaches and coordinators who want a chance.

However, be careful where you go. You can do more harm than good in some cases.

Vrabel gets it right and goes where there is a new star rising at quarterback. He is riding a rocket.

The Raiders have the first pick in the draft where Mendoza looks like the bet.

The Titans and Giants have young first round quarterbacks as well. The Cardinals and Falcons both have unclear futures at quarterback. The Ravens have Lamar.

Then there is Cleveland. What is the prospective head coach looking at?

You have to be honest. A good defense with players under contract. An offense under water. The OL is completely toast. Not a single true asset to build around.

The worst receiving unit in the NFL. And the cherry on top. No quarterback who currently would be considered a starter. And the 6th pick in a draft with little chance to find a solution.

Unless the new guy sees Shedeur as a legit starting QB which is hard to imagine. We will be passed over by the best candidates because it looks like a deadfall trap.

Somebody will take the job. Right off the bat you would question his judgement.

Baltimore has always had some sort of strength/advantage over their opponents. Early on it was their D along with a competent O... with Lamar's emergence the offense has done most of the heavy lifting in getting them wins while the D has kinda regressed (nowhere to go but down from the Ray Lewis/Ed Reed/Ngata years). The Browns have their defense, and I think established coaches see opportunity instead of struggle when they see stuff like the Browns offense (hurting for talent, but a few pieces in place and clear commitment to build with lots of resources).

I think the conversation is less the history and makeup of the team, and more the workings of the FO and how Harbaugh can do what he wants to do if he comes here (which, to your larger point, is also a tougher one for us to navigate given Haslam's rep).

I suppose we are just going to have to agree to disagree here. I believe when looking at opportunities you look for the best opportunity available to you. He became the Ravens winningest coach, won Super Bowl XLVII, and earned NFL Coach of the Year honors. I think almost any team struggling who needs a HC would agree to give him a lot of control.

Any team drafting before the Browns is a struggling team. All of them are looking for that HC to turn their fortunes around. Turning any of those teams around would not only be a challenge but a great accomplishment. Some of those teams have QB's to build around. And I think another major key is an issue you brought up yourself. Haslam's reputation to meddle in everything.

I guess we'll just have to see how it all pans out. But If I were to wager, I'd give pretty good odds Harbaugh will only be in Cleveland when he comes here as HC of the opposing team.

The Browns should be doing everything in their power to get Harbaugh here.

But they are an unserious clown show of an organization so I doubt they will even try.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

When you have the ability to choose anywhere, you don't choose the place where success is least likely. The reason Cleveland is seen as a dog in this HC search is because our path to success is so muddled. A coach in Cleveland right now with Haslam and Berry and the dual distinction of being relatively powerless over the factors of success in the near term future and yet having all the pressure to field a winner asap or Berry is going to be gone and you with him as soon as the DW hex is lifted. No matter how nostalgic or history oriented someone may be, they look at the reality of stepping into a situation and evaluate the likelihood of navigating it to success and what the risk is if you're not pretty quickly. Cleveland not only doesn't have a QB (a coaches highest priority) but also doesn't have a viable path to one and the ones they have are highly problematic for a whole bunch of reasons besides not being good QBs.

If only they had waited one more year to kick Ski to the curb: you know what you have in Sanders, you likely have most of a rebuilt OL and a few new WR's, maybe you traded down again and got a 2nd pick next year and your out from under the DW yoke. You can make a decision one way or the other and this job looks a whole hell of a lot better. But we're dumb. We do dumb things and we do them dumbly. Harbaugh is not dumb.
