Yep I watched the "OTHER" halftime show. It had zero to do with politics but I know how things go around here and it would have ended up getting moved here after a few comments. I keep reading over, and over, and over again the Lyrics to a 25 year old song I never even heard before (but don't like now that I did listen to it) What I also never did was listen to Bad bunny hell he doesn't even sing in English and I'm sure there are several on this board that I have gone round and round with on my feelings about people in this country not speaking English. I never bashed they guy because I haD NO clue if he was good or bad since I was never going to listen to him anyway, and still didn't for the Super Bowl. What my rant is about is all the people bashing Christians and witching about one song Kid Rock Sings. UMM excuse you but Kid was not the only one singing. I'm a Gabby Barrett fan,and a Lee Brice fan, and have been a Brantley Gilbert fan since long before you ever even heard of him. So what did I watch...., YEP the other half time show.

I didn't complain about the Half time show to anybody, didn't bash Bad Bunny, yet when I posted that I watched the other half time show to a few friends (who are die hard democrates) I get told by them I must be racist,and not a christian, so I went and did something to learn more about Bad Bunny since I never even heard the name before all the crap started hitting the fan a while before the superbowl. I switched over to watching Columbo. It was a repeat, but it was good.

I mean - the last four headliners were Dr. Dre, Rihanna, Usher and Kendrick Lamar.

The thing that was unique about this show was the language - not anything about sexualized content.

I don't really care who watched what. But the entire reason there was an "alternative half time show" was political. It was nothing more than a childish tantrum. It was once again proof that every accusation the right makes towards the left is nothing more than an admission of what they themselves are guilty of. Noting screams #triggered and #snowflake more than this did.

And the comparison in their lyrics? It isn't the left who goes around making claims they are the party of family values and the "Christian right". If people are going to claim they're holier than though and that the other side are the Godless hoards, maybe it they themselves who should be trying to live up to it instead of saying "Yeah, but look at what they did."

If you're going to claim it, own it.

And no GM, this isn't directed at you but to the overall crowd that seemed so offended they felt some need to act like the only halftime show Christians and Republicans should watch was the one some political action committee put together. It's hard to have a halftime show sponsored by a right wing political group and then claim none of it was political.

I rarely watch the halftime show either. But I usually poop first thing in the morning. I know, TMI.

Because just like you, we are from the older crowd and generally these half time shows are geared for younger audiences.

As was mentioned this halftime show had many artists performing. And all of them have younger fans. But I mean, I get it.

The NFL has to think about the future. As much as it pains us to admit it our generation won't be around much longer. As for myself I've gotten to the age that fighting the crowds and paying high prices for everything from tickets to parking to food and lodging, I rarely go to a concert anymore unless it's a special concert by an artist on my bucket list. It wasn't that way when I was a younger man.

If you combined the artists performing at that halftime show and added up all of their Grammy's, all of their streams being purchased and all of their sales to date, you would find they are some of the most popular artists on the planet. I'm not a fan of any of them. But having them put on the halftime show makes perfect sense.

On the other hand you had Kid Rock as the headliner of the other show. Someone I was also never a fan of. A man who was so triggered by a Trans person doing a promo for Bud Light on the internet he had to break out his automatic rifle and use a case of Bud Light for target practice. The man who had a photo op at The White House in what looked like a Temu knock off of an Evel Knievel outfit. I understand that there were other artists but this was their headliner. The face if it all. What a fool.

You see, I remember my dad coming to my room when I was fourteen listening to Black Sabbath. He called it noise. He said he didn't understand a word of it and asked me how the hell I could stand to listen to that. As time went on I understood that. I understood that back in the 50's they called R&R the devils music. That parents during that time didn't get the music. I understood my dad didn't get my music and I don't get rap music and some of what is popular today.

But see, just like the generations before me, I'm not supposed to. And unlike the generations before me I'm not going to attack this generation or degrade their popular music and artists just because I don't get their music. I'm not going to go along with some invented sense of outrage that make my generation look more childish than today's youth is.

I think my dad was very smart man. I learned a great deal from him. But when it comes to him understanding and liking my music, he didn't. And he let it be known. And like I said, he was just like the generation before him in that regard.

I don't get today's music either but then I'm not going to follow along with someone throwing a tantrum about it. I remember how that was when people did to my music and I don't want to be "that guy".

I have seen a few hundred posts on facebook bashing Kid Rock for nasty lyrics in a song from 2001. Yet when I looked up Bad Bunny's lyrics I had to Roll On the floor laughing. Just one black pot calling another pot black.

I think alot of people run to their corners and make a big damn deal out of this and to me it was nothing more than...

The NFL is a private group of billionaire business owners who are trying to expand their product into other markets and to other people.
That's why every weekend is a salute to somebody and there are more and more games every year in other countries and times that there where not games 15-20 years ago.

They have pretty much tapped out the US market on tickets and merch; they are trying to move their product overseas and generate even more money.

They went with a singer who has been the most streamed artist 4 of the last 6 years with just under 20 billion streams last year alone on spotify alone.

Me, I watched part of it, went to the bathroom and got some food. I didn't need to go to one side and say it was life changing or go in a corner and whine that they are bringing 15 minutes of culture into my living room.

You see, it's about the hypocrisy involved when you claim to be holier than though. When you claim to be the one that represents Christians and family values. Not you as an individual but the hypocrites who claim they are above and better than everyone else showing they aren't that at all.

Like I said, if you are the group making such claims you own it. Don't try to use the excuse that since Johnny jumped off the cliff it's okay that you do too after you claimed to be so much better and smarter than Johnny before you jumped.

And that's what it actually amounts to. The NFL is expanding their market globally. They already had a game in Mexico and have another game scheduled this upcoming season. The NFL has expanded into South America, specifically in Brazil. This was a marketing decision. Anyone claiming the NFL did this for political reasons? They must believe that Goodell suddenly awoke from a dream being woke. That's not how any of this works.

I think it's been a long time since lyrics at these shows were held to PG ratings (regardless of the singer), though I guess they normally censor the most extreme parts.

I don't mind the type of music featured during the halftime show... but I am also able to hear/understand small parts of songs.

I'd say I got about as much from this halftime show as I did the last couple... which is to say it neither enhanced nor took away from my enjoyment of the SB in a significant way.


I will say, I thought it was an interesting choice. I thought it was interesting how they were all "Football = America" during the pregame... and then had a halftime show that was 99% in spanish. I Also thought it was interesting that they had a bunch of boomers complain about not being able to understand/follow Kendrick Lamar's songs... and then followed that with a halftime show in another language.

Maybe I just didn't have enough invested in order to get excited or outraged... but I'd be lying if I didn't find it kinda odd.

It was a 25 year old song that somebody on the left dug up and people starting posting it all over the place. They acted like he was singing it yesterday and guess what they did. THey got offended oh my. I think the song is garbage, but many of the folks complaining listen to rap every day that has worse lyrics.

I'm not sure what that has to do with so many republicans claiming they have the market cornered on family values, Christianity and being the party of "The Christian right" while being no better than anyone else.

We are alike in many ways. And one of those ways is neither one of us claim to be perfect. We both understand that until the day we die we are still a work in progress. I believe we both understand that Christians belong to both political parties. I don't have any problem with that. That's honest and truthful.

But that has nothing to do with what we're talking about here. I am talking about people claiming quite the opposite. That it is they and they alone who stand for family values. That they and they alone represent Christianity and Christians as a whole. I'll give you an example. trump just said he doesn't understand how any Christian can vote Democrat. Once you do that you just made claims that you are somehow superior to "the others". When groups or political parties claim they are superior and anyone who doesn't go along with everything they say belong to "the Godless hoards" I think it's time every self respecting christian should call the out on that.

I'm one of the very people they have placed that target on the back of and I'm not going to be silent when they show their hypocrisy.

Those are the very type of people I am talking about. Once you sit in your ivory tower claiming some sense of moral and Christian superiority it's different. At that point nobody should be surprised that you will be held to the standard that you yourself claim you already hold and have achieved.

I agree. I think each issue should be taken on in and of itself. But as it stands trump is the face of the Republican party. They had several choices of far more rational candidates to choose from all three times he won the GOP nomination for president and he was by far the winner all three times. That was a direct choice on the part of republican voters. That's why we are where we are now.

There's another thing I think we both agree on. Common sense has left the building. Whether that's from the far left or the far right. The extremists have taken over both parties for the most part and anyone somewhere in the middle gets rejected by both parties. We are left without a legitimate choice.

There is a difference between liking and not liking a style of music. 60 years of Super Bowl, an American cultural event- why have a half time show sung in Spanish- 20 percent of nation speaks Spanish- why does the 80% have to not understand the whole show. I read eight different groups turned down the NFL- guess no English speakers wanted to perform. Made no sense to me- plus, if NFL is trying to keep a clean, wholesome identity the lyrics of a performer should be considered.

Say what you will about Bad Bunny and Kid Rock, when it came to who watched what, roughly 141 Million watch Bad Bunny, 11 million watched the Puppy Bowl and 5.1 million watched Kid Rock..

Not sure what that says, but clearly more folks were interested in Bad Bunny.

I watched the Bunny, it was OK.. Not my cup of tea. Hi energy sure. Interesting,, Yeah it was. Prior to this, I'd never watched a BB video or anything with him in it, that I know of anyway. I had to watch to see what's up with him. Like I said, he's ok,,,, Just not my personal cup of tea.

I don't really care for Kid Rock's music. Not a fan. Bad Bunny was a fun halftime show, I guess, but I don't know his music or what he was singing. There are a few people I work with from Puerto Rico and they all love Bad Bunny. This group also plays reggaeton music sometimes for hours on end over a loudspeaker setup at work. Actually, it is not bad. About 70% of the time it is the same drum beat with a droning tone behind it. It's kinda hypnotic. I like that. Something different for me.

I would have expected the NFL to have had closed captions in English to reach out to the non-spanish speaking population.

Honestly I never heard of bad bunny before he was picked for the SB halftime… didn’t care for some of his political messages or cross dressing… but thought his show was fine… I appreciated some of the visuals and story telling…. I wish more of it was in English but honestly at times it felt like he was mumbling, so not sure i would have understood in English… Liked the fact that an actual wedding took place, liked the shot with the little kid… and can appreciate the shout out to the various American nations when the NFL is going more global…

I can tell you I'm not one of them, and why in the hell would I waste my time listening to songs in a language In which I have NO CLUE what is being said. That makes about as much sense as sticking my wiener in a meat grinder. I just ain't going to enjoy it. It's time you admit what I have admitted. There are whackamoles on both sides and you can't judge them all based on that. I know and am friends with Republicans as well as Democrats. Oh, and about the show being in Spanish. I get that. I speak very little Spanish myself. But at the same time I think you have to consider that not every place that is a part of The United States speaks English as their primary language. And while I'm certainly not trying to single you out, a lot of people claimed by him performing in Spanish somehow made it "less than or not American."

But the U.S. extends far beyond our 50 states. The U.S. controls territories that do not speak English. Puerto Rico is just one example. Here are other such examples.....

I get the age factor. My music listening is mainly focused on smooth jazz or classic/outlaw country. In "rock" terms, classic country means an "oldies" station. I don't like a good 75% of what comes out of Nashville today.

What I'm trying to tell you is that Puerto Rico IS part of The United States. Americans who live, reside and are born in Puerto Rico? Their native language IS Spanish. That means the native language of these American citizens is Spanish. How is it any more disrespectful that those Americans don't learn your language than you not learning theirs?

WASHINGTON, Feb 18 (Reuters) - The Federal Communications Commission requested transcripts of Bad Bunny's Super Bowl ‌halftime show performance from Comcast's NBC after a Republican ‌lawmaker suggested it could violate federal indecency regulations, a member of the ​commission said Wednesday.

FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez said she reviewed the transcripts of the performance that was largely in Spanish after she learned the commission had requested them. The New York Post reported earlier the performance did not include some lyrics that contained graphic sexual references and the FCC does not plan to review the matter further barring further evidence, citing a source familiar ‌with the matter.

I don't care what he sang, or how he danced. I have said multiple times my problem was/is with not singing in English. That's my OPINION and I'm entitled to it, the same as you folks who liked the show, yet it seems like those on the left think they have a right to their opinion while those on the right are not... hhhmmmm sounds like the left is acting just like the right.

Many people including myself have other non english recordings we listen to. They are enjoyable to listen to.

You certainly have a right to your own opinion. Yet some of the greatest works in music which are classic operas are also not sung in English. It's also true that Puerto Rico is a part of The United States and their native language is Spanish. Thus Spanish is the native language of millions of Americans. I don't discriminate against other Americans.

Choices, yes, we had choices, BUT-- I don't understand the NFL- who supports the huge contracts- JMHO, Americans- white, black, and some hispanics-- vast majority speak ONE language- ENGLISH- if I'm "racist" for stating a fact, so be it, biggest game of the year and almost whole half-time show is in Spanish---- DUMB.....I guess the South American future more important than the "owned" English speaking market. I could care less about the half time show - never have. Didn't this year. But just using your own logic - there seems to have been musical half time shows since the 70's. If you want to represent the US population (based on your breakdown above) then one show out of about 55 being in Spanish is probably too few (less than 2%). About 14% of Americans speak Spanish at home.

SO I guess without realising you are advocating for more Spanish half time shows. Ok. I won't watch them either way. But luckily MAGA are such snowflakes and the cheerleaders of cancel culture - they will provide you with something alternative to watch.

Nobody really cared about the half time show before. There have been a few occasions that I watched it when they had artists I really liked but most every year the people I watched it with talked, ate and socialized during the halftime show. There have been several years when actual immigrants from other countries performed the halftime show. Nobody seemed to care or make a big deal out of it.

But this year they decided to throw a tantrum which seems to be a pattern now. And yes, they can choose to throw a tantrum if they want to.

For some reason they decided that having a halftime show performed by an American citizen that performed in the very language they speak in his part of America is in-American. And then, on top of that they think you can actually have a Superbowl halftime show at a location where not only isn't the Superbowl being played, but at a place where no football game is being played at all. That's called a concert. That's doubling down on the stupid.

There have been Super Bowl halftime shows at the Superbowl for decades now. But this is the first time so many people threw a tantrum over it and felt some need for a "counter concert". That's just a fact.

I watched the opening of BB but just didn't see any reason to watch something I couldn't understand. I checked back in from time to time because I had heard only part of it was in Spanish, but I never saw a word of English. Was the entire performance Spanish?

I guess if I went to the movies and chose to watch an action flick over a non-English foreign film without subtitles that would be "throwing a tantrum". Then again, if BB's performance had subtitles, I'd have to cover my granddaughter's eyes, so there's that.
