I'm not sure what the difficulty was but it seems to have been resolved. I've had zero issues today.

Yep. Severe sluggishness stopped pretty quickly after my last post and has been about 80% on point since then. Still a bit glitchy, not as bad.
Over the last few months, browsing isn't usually a problem. I usually see nothing wrong until I preview, click to full edit or actually try to execute a reply.

Over the last few months, browsing isn't usually a problem. I usually see nothing wrong until I preview, click to full edit or actually try to execute a reply. Same. Browsing is generally fine, it is only when posting/editing that I see the issue (typically) and that reinforces the deadlock theory.

Site moving fast today. Yesterday, when things got bogged down, I tried clearing cache. I'm no techie, it was just an impulse. Seemed to clear things up but could have just been coincidence. I'll keep an eye on this unless anyone knows it's a waste of time... Short answer: clearing cache for a single site depends on your browser. Here are quick, reliable methods you can use right away.
Chrome (desktop)
Method 1: DevTools quick clear
Open the target page, press Ctrl+Shift+I (Cmd+Option+I on Mac) to open DevTools.
Right-click the refresh button and choose “Empty Cache and Hard Reload” (or go to the Network tab and disable cache, then refresh). This clears the cache for the page you’re viewing and reloads with fresh assets.

I don't recall looking at it more than once or twice total. unfortunately, it is integral to the site and I don't want to go down the rabbit hole of overly customizing lest future upgrades become unmanageable. That said, I just implemented a change to the way I'm periodically clearing that table that will hopefully resolve the deadlocks issue. We'll see....

I'm considering this issue as resolved.
Previously, I could not make two posts in a row without encountering the extremely long deadlocks and they would then result is delayed page loads as well. Since the most recent change, I have yet to experience a single issue, and while I'm not on here anywhere near as much as I used to be, I've been on several times across different time periods over the last couple of days. I've posted replies and edited posts, all without issue.
